One of the best interviews ….a real humble down to earth stand up Gent….in fact the best interview more honesty spoken in it and more relatable with a likeable soul talking about his life ….real people make for more interesting story’s I wish this gent well moving on with his life .
I Remember Marty From My Childhood. I Was Studying Drama And I Admired Him, When He Done Dead Mans Cards I Was So Grateful When He Gave Me A Signed Promotion Poster. Happy To Hear How Well Your Doing Marty Much Love
Billy, this was very interesting and all the best to Martin in the future. He mentioned that outstanding Liverpool boxer Harry Scott at the beginning of the interview . Years ago I was fortunate to meet Harry and have a long chat. Harry was good mates with the legendary Bill Shankly, who was an avid boxing fan. He fought some world class boxers , but his proudest memory was beating the great Rubin’ Hurricane’ Carter. Thanks for what you are doing Billy..
Mart tin the first thing I notice about you is how humble you are ,I think that shows your a good guy and the people who don't show any humility aren't generally nice people and don't show any empathy towards others which is the opposite to you and which I can tell your a good person ,I think you need to forgive yourself for anything you have done in the past as it's in the past and has happned so you can keep moving forward as you are, give yourself a break mate and be proud of what you've achieved as you have achieved 10 times what most people achieve in a life time ,and as the main man Billy always says were blessed with a few short decades so enjoy what time you have left as life is a blessing and do what makes you and others around you happy and as for the incident with your nans dog you need to forgive yourself as you weren't a well man quite clearly and didn't do it on purpose so take care and keep moving forward mate one day at a time
@@jameshughes4719 miss our chats marty, have a good day mate and stick to the path.you and paul harding influenced me to go sober.just over 3 years now mate
The Rotunda boxing club is on Lambeth Road Kirkdale (my old school gym actually) 1976-1981 Prior to that, it was on the corner of Wess,y Road , Kirkdale ! 💋💋

Great to see my old friend and door buddy on the up and doing well. I know him personally as a humble caring and giving guy yet as tough as they come. We had some rough times but also had some great laughs. He was always referring to me as the Scouse Ed Harris..🤣👍Great to see ya mart. Bless ya mucker xx❤️
Just over half way through... and I had to pause it just to comment....🤣 I can't believe you've not seen going off big time, need to get that sorted Billy🤣😁👊🏻
We did ave a bit of a mad time ; think Darren and Andy , where great lads to work with , they where both really funny and used to bounce off each other . But I was ruff arse club , it sent me head west ; I developed a twitch , I was was that wound up ! All the time . They just took it in there stride !
Liverpool was full of great boxers in the 70,s & 80,s all around from north Liverpool to south Liverpool even now this city producers winners just wish there was more kids getting recruited
I grew up with Martin (I lived in Ferndale he in Langsdale) he introduced me to the Highfield boxing club in Old Swan. -we also went to Billy Macks (what a great place- who's using all the hot water Billy would shout if someone was in the shower for more than a minute) Saw the fight with Martin and Joey Frost. Martin comes from a nice family, a really funny fella, who is bright, articulate with great insight......and not a bad thespian... Bacon butties with brown sauce & lashing of tea (on tick) in Mrs Greys & Soupes........Fine wines, Belgium chocolates and polite conversation in the Willowbank pub....& some strangely exciting times in dim lite yards. Well done Martin for getting and remaining sober. Happy days.
Martin has always been humble remember partyin with him back in the day lovely fella. Touey on the other had was cocky he thought he was a ladies man lol. Comes with territory hey. Nice one Billy 👍 Great to see Martin on here 👍
@scousesurvivor9816 Kevin is a very humble, quiet man, who is in no way shape or form cocky or arrogant. So stop spreading lies and rumours about people you don’t know anything about. Don’t be spreading rumours about people, when you don’t know them one bit.
boss interview my boxing coach Kenny Willis from huyton was in that going off big time remember him saying he's never been at the back of a firm going for a call out in real life but was in that part he was taking about ,us people don't do things by halves do we Billy it's" all or nothing" in life whether it be positive things like training , but when it comes down to substance we don't have that stop switch others do so we end up in bad places that r hell to come back from bro, nice man relate to the story 100 percent mate
I was at Crystal Palace when Kenny was there what a brilliant fighter ; saw him box at the stadium him and there Tony where special fighters , some classic fights there think one year they both boxed the Gilbodys ,
Really enjoyed this Bill 👍🏼 Any stories from an old timer called Gary Spiers from back in the day? Big karate guy and doorman in Liverpool. He was a Maui and great friends with my grandad. ❤
@@Theoriginalbigbrillo thanks for the reply mate. My grandad trained with Gary for years and most weekends Gary would be around their house having dinner etc. Sadly my grandad and Gary passed within a couple of months. The memories live on though 👍🏼❤️
There's a good old book, about Gary Spiers,Terry O'niel and a couple of other doorman/Hardcase types. Its called working with warriors. If you spent plenty of time in and around Liverpool's night life or know of these street legends. Its a great read.
@carlito571 I read it budd when it first came out it was authored by Dennis Martin Old friend of my Dad's from his Firearm shooting days!! Read Roy Adams book "Hard Nights" if you like the Old Skhool Liverpool night club material? 👍👍
Kicked out the house in the middle of winter aged 15, i spotted a house on the main road (i won't say where, just that it wasn't far from L'pools ground) with a 4ft wall around it and decided to try and kip behind it. I had a spare pair of socks that my mate gave me in my pocket. Abar 2 0' clock in the morning when there wasn't a sound to be heard, i stood up fking freezing for a piss at the exact moment as a bizzie was walking quietly past. So i ended up in court where he said i had the socks on as gloves and he also produced a rusty 'arl scissor as evidence that he said he saw glinting in the moonlight as i threw it away. Complete lies of course and case got dismissed. Anyway i didn't know at the time but the garden i'd tried to get my head down in was..Joey Frost's!. Thank fuck he didn't see me before the copper.
I've known Martin from 9y old in St Claire he hasn't Changed a Diamond Lad seen him a few days ago always has time for you & very very Funny man a brother from another Mother
What a great podcast proper guy not afraid to Admit when beaten and when scared and that being a boxer as well. But also shows that Big Darren Smith was no joke in his time. He may joke & kid about. But you can tell he can go like a badger it’s in his eyes. 👌
I remember my first amateur boxing fight for tuebrook boxing gym abc. Joe burquest and John comber my trainers I loved them to bits and still think about them all the time. They are no longer with us or my beautiful dad who was a staunch boxing man and trainer original trainer of canny farm boxing gym he made some goodins from that gym at that time my dad. Loved this one takes me back the names mentioned I have heard growing up thanks Bill. My older brother allsofaught on Henry Coopers golden belt. It was the same bill as Kevin hocko. Paul hockos brother. Kevin hocko got beat by zammo out of Grange Hill ha believe it or not. You can get it on RU-vid. My brother won his fight. It was Liverpool boys vs London boys. Liverpool won anyway. Some great boxers from Liverpool then. Proper scousers bill. 👍
Brilliant what a fella he is but bill come on mate this was way to short this had the potential to be a 2 hour plus podcast, what is it mate does your attention span not go longer then 50 mins lad, you had such an amazing guest and you missed the chance, come on bill we want you to compete with the big boys but ya pods ain’t long enough
Coming from Liverpool, I really enjoy your videos. But when you begin stating our sponsors are ... I really want to switch off immediately and watch something else. Could I suggest that you please give some meat before you introduce your sponsors ? I hope it will you to get more viewers who watch longer .. You deserve it. All the best . Roy
I watch these podcasts and see how shit this country is, I'm older than these men, but I'm mde from the same metal, I see people today who are weak and they should watch this, these men have been through tough times but overcome the bad times and lived to come out the other side, think positive you will get through it
Thirty two fights , twenty two wins ten kos , lots of hard battles two famous fights with Jimmy Price both close and Joey , fought all the main lads Sammy Brennan Ged Starky , Tommy Lunch , Andy Mc , Derrick Ashcroft Karvin light burn Jamie Mchugh .
