Just over 30 years ago Tommy visited in hospital a friend of his who just gave birth. My wife was in the same room and Tommy came over and just started talking to her. She didn’t know who he was but was struck by how genuine and friendly he was. He even asked if he could hold my newborn son. That simple act of caring to come over to a stranger and treat her like a friend has stuck with us all these years. Even if we forget about his immense talent and love of music, the world needs more Tommy Emmanuels.

Hey, Mister depression, don't go down, don't let you go, we are with you, we are around you, even from far, even from countries you have no ideas (Switzerland for instance) We love your work, we clearly love what you do. We will pray for you, even if I'm not much a God guy. After a quick thought, the thing I wanted to tell you is this one: You helped me so many time with your tunes, your music, your joy, me and millions that if we can help you, just ask, thanks Tommy.

I’m saddened to hear of your depression, you’ve brought so much joy to so many! I met you outside of a venue in Manhattan Beach, CA many years ago. I told you that your music (especially “Those Who Wait,” “Since We Met,” and “Angelina”) had gotten me through some very dark times in my life, even when I’d considered ending it. Your music is a gift from God and you to us and I hope I get the blessing of hearing, live and otherwise,for many, many years to come.

I always have a hard time keeping it together when Tommy plays The Duke. It was worse today hearing him talk about depression. If we can all hold on a little longer and stay strong, hopefully this will get better. I felt like I was sitting in the third row watching Tommy, and Richard is my second favorite guitar player. Get well, Tommy.

There are literally thousands of talented guitars players in the world today. Some of whom are truly remarkable, geniuses even. But there is only one Tommy Emmanuel. It will be a long time before the world sees your equal again, because there are so many elements beyond the mere musical creative genius that make you the unique soul that you are. I don’t know anyone who isn’t happy and grateful that they ran into you, if they did.

Mr. Emmanuel, I'm sorry to hear about your bout with depression. I think this past year would've brought anyone down, especially for a man whose ability to connect with so many people has been curtailed. But unlike others here, I am not a believer in the supernatural and therefore I cannot offer prayers. But I can offer this from one human being to another: Your passion, your dedication, your talent, your positivity and your love has reached millions of people in ways that can't be counted. That's a legacy few can achieve. Whatever you might be feeling, know that mean more to us than you might think and you'll always be in our hearts and minds. And frankly, I haven't forgotten those moments of laughter in your stories and in your performances. They've lifted spirits everywhere.

Tommy thank you for having the courage to share about depression, I too was diagnosed with depression and felt some unhealthy shame that I must have done something wrong or that there was something inherently wrong with me that only compounded the depression and isolation. I was really frightened and knew I needed to fight the urge to isolate and just be with friends. I have been sober and active in Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years and felt embarrassed about the depression and that I must of done something wrong and felt I needed to keep it my secret which was false pride. I sought help and realized that I had been sharing my experience, strength and hope for years in A.A., and have known the power that had to encourage and guide me as a new comer and have passed it on to help others as we learned to live life on life's terms and share our walk and this was my journey and I decided to pocket my pride and have amazed when I shared my secret, the number of people that thanked me for having the courage to share how helpful it was for them. Thank you Tommy and the guitar has been the balm for me to heal and work out the emotions that I could not find words for. You are an inspiration in many ways, and I personally want to thank you.-Brian Leary

It's ben a long time since I've taken the time to write a proper RU-vid comment, I feel like now it's the right moment to do so. Mr. Emmanuel, Tommy... I was born in the beautiful town of Genoa, Italy (in a time and space where I was lucky enough to attend to your concerts, three times.), and started my guitar path when I was 1 y.o. Dad shared this gift with me, and I've been living for the music, each day. It has ben a marvelous journey, 24 years of daily performing in my bedroom, studying every instrument I could get my hands on. I discovered perfect pitch very early on, and sometimes I find it's easier to comunicate emotions through music, rather than through mere words. You, you and your music saved me in a time where I was an adolescent, angry with himself and with the whole world. I had suicidal thoughts, I unwillingly tried to hurt those who were around me, and one day Angelina played on a YT playlist. From that day I promised that I would ne fighting, no matter what. I don't believe in a God - yet - (at least in a Christian way, despite my nationality) but I do believe that something greater than us has to exist. You brought love and magic, pure magic, in every heart whose ears were fortunate enough to hear you play and sing. Please, just hold on. We are vere for you ad a family, and when you'll get back to Genoa I promise I'll get you a slice of onion focaccia, just the way you love. Thank you, for being the closest thing to a second father I could ever hope to experience. Italy and the whole world love you.🎶❤

After 48 years of business 'life', now I'm close to 70,I bought a new guitar, started finger picking lesson, in time of Corona. You inspired me to so. Thank you so much. My goal isn't becoming a master - surely I am late- but having fun and to enjoy my children's children. God bless you

Mr. Emmanuel, you are one of the most special people in the world: one of the greatest musicians of all time who happens to be a kind-hearted, giving person and a true gentleman. I was blessed with the opportunity to see you play live in Italy 11 years ago, and it was the best concert of my life. I've been through this and I know how much depression can rob you of strength and motivation, but you had the courage to talk about it in public and for this, you are even more our hero today. The best. I know all too much about depression. Imagine - you're the best in the world at what you do - you have a humble and gracious nature, gigs until you can't play any longer, some money in the bank, you get to do what you love for a living , and awesome hair - and yet........................depression has no bounds and takes no prisoners. You are on my daily prayer list-praying for a complete restoration from depression -you have an amazing God-given talent which has blessed so many-The first time I heard you play the Beatles medley I decided to take the strings off of my guitar and put a potted plant in the sound-hole. BUT because it is highly unlikely that I will ever have your skill level and I enjoy playing so much I have removed the plant and have returned to playing

It is hard to believe how somebody can suffer from depression who brings so much joy and happiness through his incredible music and who - from what one can tell from RU-vid videos etc. seems to be such a positive and ever-smiling character. But that's part of the depression, it is often hard to see from the outside. This video is now over a year old, but Tommy I really hope you are doing better by now! Every music I hear from you brings back fond memories of when I had the chance to see you live once in Hannover, Germany some 3-4 years back. All the best and I sincerly hope to be able to see you again in a show sometime in the future!

I think playing your guitar is the cure for your depression, Tommy. You sure do cure it for a lot of other people. Please just keep playing.We love you Tommy and we appreciate you and all that you do. My doctor told me I have "seasonal allergies". I said "which season". He said "all of them". Hi Tommy, still remember getting to meet you in 2011 (NL), we had a great talk on guitars and you signed my strat, which I cherish to this day. I hope you continue to do well, it's been tough times for all us life-performers, but I can't imagine what it must be like for a 300 gigs per year-man. You're the best, man, never forget!

You have helped keeping depression in this world down. For practicing and playing guitar is the best kind of meditation and escape from reality for we lucky ones who are lucky enough to be born with the passion and drive to play the guitar. I have learned some good pieces of advice from you: 1. Focus at one song at a time. 2. Anchor down. All the greatest ones anchor down. It's true. I would not have noticed that had you not told me. I try to make my own fusion of Country and Flamenco, so I can't anchor down all the time, but it helps the technique and progress to be aware of this simple and powerful piece of advice of yours. So thank you Tommy for all you have done for the guitar fingerpicking community! Just kick back and go out into nature for long walks with your children.
