It has been a while since my last livestream - I have missed our conversations! So before I start my tour with the SWR Symphonieorchester later this week I wanted to reconnect with you and discuss Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2.
As you know, I have been dreaming of playing this piece for almost 30 years and am happy to bring it on tour now. Ahead of our conversation tomorrow I want to know from you: What are your dream pieces that you have already played or still want to play? Tell me the stories you have with these pieces!

Yulianna brachte klar und leidenschaftlich die Empfindungen und Leidenschaften zum Ausdruck, die auch ich als junger Mensch verspürte, als ich Prokofjews Zweites Konzert zum ersten Mal hörte, und die ich auch als Erwachsener noch immer erlebe. Ich möchte der Diskussion ein Element hinzufügen. Yuluannas Vortrag und auch Prokofjews zweites Konzert waren eine zutiefst persönliche, transformierende Erfahrung

Yulianna, I admire your playing so much. But I also admire and appreciate the generosity it takes to give us such a video as this as well as the imagination you bring to your music. Watching You & you work on You Tube I am positive You can combine all you conferences in musicology works in the OPUS of Professors' of musicology. Do it. I have always wanted to play Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto. But at 67 years old (after spending 50 years primarily as a Rock lead guitarist) - it will be a great challenge for me to attain my goal. So I dream, with all my heart, to see you play it one day. . . As always - thank you for sharing your time, and your videos with us.

Yulianna. I found you early on searching for a performance of the Schumann F# minor sonata. I was really taken by your sensitivity, but also by your sense of structure. Afterwards I went down the you tube rabbit hole and listened to all your Chopin stuff, but also found you Prokofiev sonata #7. I thoroughly enjoyed your discussion here (as a transcript-maybe live next time) You are a true musical intellect with also a true spiritual element, AND SOME HUMOR. Bless you for illustrating all of this. My favorite piece in all of the Russian compositions: the piano solo of the 2nd pno cto. Your playing of it reminds me of the first time I heard it, as performed by Vladimir Krainev. The way you and Krainev make this piece very palatable, despite its complexity, is what can bring Prokofiev's 2nd to be as enamored as audience are with Rach 3. You follow a practical trajectory in the crescendo toward the end. When done as well as you do, it's almost unbearable for a listener who doesn't know the piece. It can takes the listener out of the realm of analyzing and following musical melodies, and instead instills them with a very real and non-musical sense of nightmarish crisis and emergency -- all resolved during the outro. This is a very supernatural piece. Thank you so much!

Thank you Yulianna! Very inspiring. I play piano in a Beatles tribute band and there is nothing better than performing the music I grew up listening to. Wish I was in Germany to hear this in person ( and to sample the local restaurants! ). Good Luck!

Thanks for the interesting analysis! I had the pleasure to attend the concert on Dec 8th in Stuttgart, it was a great experience! Also liked the encore Shostakovich very much.
