My ex-boyfriend's mother HATED me and it was honestly so draining. I was always nice to her but thb she was a despicable person in general and she seemed to hate everyone so yeah, I one point I stopped trying/caring so much. That being said, in the next relationship I got along so well with the family and ngl it made things 100% easier...

Yes it’s very important to me to be accepted but the family. The relationship would be stressful and possibly on breaking point if the family does not like you or vice versa.

As a Taiwanese American...you shouldn’t care if you’re accepted or not. As I always tell my wife (my parents love her), even if the day my parents will never accept her I will always love her and be by her side. Essentially me and her will be the ones to spend our lives together. Our parents is barely involved in our lives and shouldn’t interfere

I’ve been dating the same person for over two years. I met his parents after about 7 months. I thought it went well. His mom was kinda stand offish but still kind, his father was very soft spoken but sweet. His dad and I get along really well, and go on fishing trips, and movie dates together. His mom and I get along just fine. We do a lot of shopping and hiking together. He is white and I’m salvadorian, so I was just very nervous when I met his family for the first time. I also believe getting along & having families approval is important.

Funny you asked that question...I actually had to break up my relationship yesterday because his family weren't willing to get to know me or anything like that, like they just didn't care and that's uncomfortable for me because I can't consider having a family with that person if his parents don't accept me or let me in. We've been together for 3 years. I tried to make it work but of course when things get serious I had to consider the possibilities, a major one being I wouldn't want my kids around people I don't know (his family) 🤷🏽‍♀️

Introducing your SO to the parents is really important....i ended up introducing my boyfriend to my Mom when she was in her hospital bed, post-surgery and believe me she was kinda impressed as he bought fruits for her.

Hey Michelle, Yes I agree!! I think it's important to be accepted into the family, although my feelings were a little different in my last relationship. Before, I use to think what matters most is the relationship between me & my S.O. and that their family was good to have around but not imperative to keep a significant relationship with. I'm in a new and totally different relationship now & my feelings are yours exactly.

I've been very fortunate that my boyfriend's family gave us their blessing. His parents did not particularly like me at first because they held preconceived notions about me. Although that was the case, I still desired to connect with them and they never made things awkward or uncomfortable. As time passed, we've been able to establish a close and trusting relationship. His parents are now like my own mom and dad!

I was super nervous about meeting my boyfriend’s parents/family (their English), everything went well for me and I have been welcomed into their home/life since August. He was a little bit nervous meeting my parents. I think it is very good to be accepted by his parents and him to be accepted by my parents. Like many others have been saying, it's great to see that you seem really happy nowadays, and it was so cute seeing how nervous you were meeting the parents! Though I've never been in a serious relationship, coming from a complicated background, I can understand when the family's acceptance may be something that doesn't have primary importance. Having said that, I think it would make things a lot more comfortable and easy if, in a relationship, you knew people important to your S/O saw you favourably -- not just meaning they approve of your relationship, but in the sense that they recognise/believe you are a good partner for someone they also care about! ALSO completely relate with your winter laying problems. I hate feeling suffocated by clothes, especially around the neck (even if I need it covered to survive freezing temperatures). Speaking of, can I ask where your grey scarf is from when you were in Toronto? I need to buy a scarf soon and it's the prettiest one I've seen in my search!
