Thank you for taking the time to show and tell us the whole process. I hope to move to Korea one day (probably not for a few years) and I’m doing my research now.
Thank you for sharing this! I felt so alone. It took me 5 trips to the bank with many disappointments and frustrations to open a local bank account. Signing up for a phone plan was another roller coaster ride. It has been over a month and I am still having issues with my check card.
this is the process that I’ll be going through soon, just finished quarantine 😭 need to learn these phrases you were saying ahaha. your video was so insightful!
Great video! Informative and fun. Makes me a little anxious to get my own stuff set up haha. Although I have heard some foreigners were able to get a bank set up before they got their ARC (I think they used a passport) so hoping I can do that too. It could be cool to also see a 'day in the life working in Korea' vlog- those are always fun to watch (especially comparing Korean and Canadian work ethic or something- difference in cultures) and I'd be curious to see how you film it; your vlogs always have a unique feel to it that I really enjoy watching (unless you are not comfortable having people know where you/what you do for work- that is understandable too!)
Oh really? Idk anything about having a bank account without the residence card haha. If that really is possible, that would be great! That's a good idea, I'll think about it! Thank you for watching!!
thank so much. these types of videos are so important for me as i plan to study at uni in korea, however such insightful videos are so rare. thanks again!
Honestly I'm watching this a year later and I'm shocked... even right after moving to Korea her korean was incredible here wow, I've been trying to learn but can't even get past the basics.
I also heard you need your ARC card before you can open bank account though they said some banks will use your passport. Immigration says it only takes 10 days to receive your ARC card. Hopefully I will be moving out there as well either this year or next year. Hopefully I will be able to get a visa 🙏So they were asking for your Alien Registration Card number. Also you should look into getting surfshark on all your devices to stay safe online it's a secure VPN you pay for 1 and can connect all of your devices. It works
Hey, thank you for this information, very helpful! Do you know if it is possible to get a credit card or access to online payments if you don't have your ARC yet? ... I know you just did it when you received it, but it is such a long time :(
No problem!! I believe you need your arc to open a bank account :( I know it can be so hard waiting for the arc to process but it’s necessary for setting up accounts. I hope yours comes soon!!
Great video I didnt know you could set up a bank account without an ARC card so this was very helpful!. Wanted to ask you are you able to work without that as well? I just moved to Korea on an F visa but havent gotten my ARC card yet so I was curious. Thanks again for your helpful videos.
Hi, i just discovered your channel.. and i like you already, your voice sounds so sweet when ur speaking korean, and when u speak english u sounds a lil bit like Jessica Lee, if you knew her. shes a korean vlogger, she vlogs about her life in korea and in the philippines, and she's currently here in the Philippines. Hoping to see you do a collab with some of the korean vloggers soon. Anyway i love ur contents. xoxo but are u a korean or chinese? you look like a korean for me. hihi sorry for my english, im not fluent. ㅋㅋㅋ
Another question when setting up a bank account do you transfer your money in to it online and it’s immediately changed to that currency ? I’m unclear of the process
I’ve never transferred money abroad into my Korean bank account before - I’ve only had deposits in KRW. But I’d imagine that if you were to transfer money into a Korean account, it would be converted to KRW
Seeing all of this makes me realize I’m going to want to die in about a month when I have to go to Korea and wait to do all this, and I only will have a month to cram all the Korean I need to even be able to do it nearly this smoothly, because I speak like a baby right now.
When you get a phone plan do u get a new phone to use in Korea separate to the phone you had before you went there? I’m trying to get as much information as possible
Hi I came across your videos and they have been very helpful! I plan to move to korea in a few months or so and everything is so nerve-racking and I feel so anxious. Can I ask you what your job is in korea?
As a chap living abroad myself, I can understand frustrations and stress related to language barriers. In my case I tried to get the help of native friends or acquaintances. Is is something you considered or you really want to get through obstacles as a way to learn quickly?
Hahah I definitely wanted to do things myself. like you said, it is good for growth :) also it would be too much of a hassle to coordinate times to go with someone and I wanted to get this done asap so I just went ahead on my own!
Hi)) I'm going to Korea for korean language courses for one year, will I be able to open a bank account and get my debit card if I won't work for 6 first months? I'm a little confused..haha thank you in advance!
Hi!! I’m really not sure I’m sorry 😭 I think if you signed up for a basic account (like there is a smaller limit in withdraws or something), you can open it as long as you have your residence card. But defs check with the bank! I had a basic account before I went back to the bank with the paperwork they were looking for and changed it to another account with no limits on withdraws I believe.
I'm not sure, sorry :/ I would imagine your age doesn't play a role, but rather it's having the proper identification such as your Korean residence card. I would check with the bank!
