The University of Aberdeen has a large and friendly community of international students. We spoke to students and staff from all over the world about why they chose to make Aberdeen their home and what makes the University so special. From the weather to the friends they’ve made, find out why students from as far as China and Namibia have chosen Aberdeen.
By joining the International Study Centre, you can be a part of this welcoming student network yourself. We will help you settle in to UK life, as well as helping you adjust to the Scottish education system before you begin your degree at the University.

1) "An international airport" - It cost me easily 5x as much to fly home (to Poland) from Aberdeen than from London. It's a tiny airport with 2-3 serious connections at best. 2) "Beachfront" - in my 4 years in Aberdeen I've never met anyone who swam or sunbathed at the beach. That's because it's usually 12 degrees and very windy. It could be decent for a walk, if not for the fact that you need to cross Seaton to get there - a neighbourhood so deprived pretty much everyone gets mental health issues by just living there for more than a month. 3) "City centre in 15 minutes". Half an hour walk, in reality. The centre has been struggling since 2014, covid killed it completely. The main street is a boarded-up ghost town. And the way to the centre is incredibly unwalkable. Public transport is as expensive as in Edinburgh, and in return, you get one half-functioning bus line and 10 which don't function at all. I needed to leave 20 minutes earlier to catch a bus to work which was half an hour away. A car is a must, though I am yet to afford it. 4) Biggest transgression: the whole video has one glimpse of blue sky. The authors tried to hide it by brightening up the reel in post-production but saying that Aberdeen is a sunny city is a straight-out lie. It's usually cloudy and very windy, I never carried an umbrella when I lived there, because each one broke the moment I took it out. The worst thing is the winter, though. Sun sets very early and there is never even any snow. Just wind and darkness.

@@rosiesmyth4047 hi Rosie, yes I did. It wasn't all bad like I described in my comment above, but the good bits were not those discussed in the video. What would you like to know? What alternatives do you have?

@@TheAleksanderC Hi! thanks for responding. How is accommodation? I've heard new carnenegie is definitely the best, but what do you think about the others, where would you recommend?
