Having lived in So Cal for 4 years and now SW Florida for longer I can say that California's weather is unbeatable. Everything else runs Florida's way. When you fly into California you realize how anything that is green is artificially irrigated, Florida is just naturally lush. The smog in California is shocking too. I lived in Huntington Beach for 5 months before I even saw Catalina Island and it shocked me how close it actually was. Literally couldn't even see it in the summer. Boating, fishing, diving and golf, Florida wins. Surfing, skiing, hiking..it's California. Natural disasters it's a wash. Mudslides, fires, earthquakes, brown outs vs hurricanes is a wash.

This was a good comparison. I lived in both and often thought of the pros and cons for each state. At the end, California comes out on top as you have so much more to do and the scenery is just world class. While a lot of people hate that CA has so many rules and laws, it's just years ahead of other states that will have to implement the same laws sooner or later due to population growth. There are more and more laws and regulations coming up in Florida you never thought would come. However, to the points of hurricanes and earthquakes. The "good" thing about a hurricane is, you know a week in advance that it comes. If you have a sturdy house and be prepared, you have no issue. An earthquake on the other hand, can come any second, no preparation, whatsoever. You just hope things hold up! Also, when it comes to taxes, yes, Florida is "cheaper". However, property taxes, insurance premiums for houses and cars, HOA fees and energy are way more expensive than in California and is eating away the tax benefit.

As a sales person, I have experienced the reality of a states that has “lower taxes” …it sucks because infrastructure is not advance, medical access, in a state like Arizona..there’s a tax for renters…low pay the dry heat is a killer, Florida is very expensive to maintain a house due to humidity, pest, red tide, insurance issues, lower pay, education system is crashing, California we have homeless from other states and higher taxes yes…but I will stay in my California

Interesting. New Hampshire has no sales nor income tax and our medical and public services excede almost every state. Its not about the tax rate... its about who is spending it. California is famous for overpaying corporations to perform public services. Florida would rather let Disney run rampant and reap the benefits.

I lived in FL and SOCAL. Personally I prefer Cali, I grew up in fl and it’s not how it’s used to be. Less places for families because they knocking down aquariums to build apartments. The price of rent went up and the minimum wage is too low. I would say is I like how the people are more respectful and they have better variety food from different cultures. And there’s a Publix. I was born and raised in Northern California. Lived in the Central Valley, Sierra Nevada and Central Coast over the years. I definitely don't hate my home state. I don't appreciate the one-sided political situation that's grown over the last 25 years or so. That lack of balance and accountability has led to a lot of extreme, intrusive and expensive policies that has affected affordability and quality of life. That said, I love the physical beauty of California. It was home and politics would have never driven me away. The constant wildfires during the last decade has. The last place I lived was Butte County and have three megafires within 30 miles of my home since 2018 and putting up with weeks/months of unhealthy to toxic levels of smoke did. During the North Complex/Bear Fire a friend in Florida said I was welcome to visit for a bit to get out of it. I spent a week in Palm Coast and fell in love with Florida. Clean air, beautiful beaches with warm water, tons of things to do all within easy reach. Plus it's much less expensive than coastal California. A brand new 2,000 sq ft home on a 1/4 acre lot just 15-20 minutes from the beach is $400,000 or less. Plus nearly everything is less expensive except for water (which isn't really an issue given the regular rain that waters the lawn). Yeah, I'm quite happy with my move six months in.

@@dwightk.schruteiii845430 minutes from St. Augustine and Daytona, an hour to Jacksonville, an hour and twenty minutes to Orlando. It's not that secluded - there's lots within easy reach by SoCal standards. Outside of St. Augustine (which is a bit pricey) homes aren't too bad from JAX all the way down to Brevard County (Space Coast). Yeah, coastal California is nicer, but I had no hope of ever buying there. With the current fire in Butte County where I used to live (28,000 were under evacuation orders at one point a few days ago) I'm sure I made the right decision to move.

@@jeffmorse645 Yea I used to live in Volusia. We would always drive to orlando on the weekends to “do something” but that got really old really quick. Theres not much to do in Daytona and Saint Augustine besides ratchet beaches and clubs and tourist attractions that are good for really only one time. I think driving an hour in any direction to go do things because of distance (not density/traffic like in SoCal) is absurd. But sure I get your sentiment about owning a home. But I hold on to the motto that was goes up, must come down.

Interesting insight! I lived in CA from 60's to 90's, but family moved to Naples for 2 years in 80's which I visited numerous times. I did not like Florida, but the values in Naples outpaced Redondo and Palos Verdes values for sure. The growth there outpaced the local beach communities by far. I think it also depends how OLD you are! If you are young and have a career, no kids, single, I think CALIFORNIA is for you, more work, and better field experience… FLORIDA in the other hand which I currently live in , I love living 15 min from the beach and some days I have the beach to myself which is amazing the water is the best in the country , working with older folks is really pleasant and there isn’t much crime where I live, I leave my truck unlocked for weeks and no one messes with my stuff, tools etc(something Cali lacks)…obviously CALI there are more things to do, I am thinking of relocating since there are more beautiful women in Cali than here, and also I’m an architect and CALI is where I can get the most experience out of my career, here is too calm and perfect for couples who are enjoying time together(all ages).. oh and about the rain this year is super dry lol hasn’t rained in weeks😢

I've lived in both, retired to Florida, but lived in Northern California for 15 years. For climate, scenery, jobs, variety of things to do, California wins hands down. But Florida has much nicer beaches and is a lot more affordable. Politics is equally weird in both states, but on opposite ends of the political spectrum. Public transportation was better in California, but the traffic and roads were horrible in California, but things are getting worse here now. I enjoyed the fifteen years I spent in CA, but I'm an East coast person. NYC would be my first choice, but our budget would be too tight if we stayed. In Florida, we live comfortably. Healthcare was better in NYC than CA or FL. I've been through an earthquake in 1989, and a hurricane. The hurricane was worse, no electricity for several days, no AC, just miserable. The earthquake was over quickly. We had to buy new drinking glasses.

There were more than 150 tsunamis that have hit California’s shoreline since the 1800’s. Some were not noticeable and some were, and caused significant damage. Additionally, the 2011 tsunami in Japan, was fatal and cost California $100 MILLION in damage to California’s ports and harbors. In January of 2022, the Tonga tsunami caused SURGES along California’s coast. Future tsunami’s might be worse. But living in Virginia, I’m very aware of the fact that Earthquakes can and will cause a tsunami. This is what makes earthquakes worse than hurricanes. wrong about the waves in Florida I went there and saw surf shops we couldn't help but to laugh coming from Santa Cruz Cali I went to Florida with a negative perception and when I checked out cocoa beach it actually had decent waves not California waves but I found it to be more enjoyable Florida beaches absolutely decimate the best beaches in California that water is warm clear and sugary white sand with no rocks or kelp like California I liked Florida so much that I'm now moving there soon btw its far more beautiful in Florida my girl is from Huntington beach I'm from central coast west coast is definitely not the best coast

@@PhyuckYew say more about opportunity because its clear and obvious that the economy over there is utter shit compared to that of Florida.
