From my experience people here are not as friendly as they say and black people here are crabs in a bucket. If you are from out of town thinking about moving to South Carolina, do not move to Charleston or North Charleston. You’re better off moving to Summerville, Moncks Corner, or Mount Pleasant if you can afford it. May see a lil racism in mount pleasant and Daniels island but friendly here? I don’t know about that. I’ve been born and raised here and I know from experience. I’ve lived in Summerville, North Charleston and mount Pleasant growing up and as an adult now I’m in Charleston downtown and I’m ready to leave South Carolina all at once. 🙄 but try it for yourself only you know what you like or don’t like🤷🏽‍♀️it just seems like black peoples give black people a hard time living here it’s sad.

Hello there. I wish you had a better experience. What I will say is life is what you make it. I can live anywhere and make it what I want. Except for extremely cold 🥶 places. Cold and snow is not for me at all. But like I have mentioned several times. I am born and raised here and who I choose to be around, socialize with and spend time with is my choice and I choose not to be around people that are like that. So for me it’s not that way here. I will turn lemons into lemonade if I need to. My advice to you and anyone moving to this area is find a positive circle of friends, areas, people to surround yourself with and only you can define that for you. And sometimes it starts with knowing who you are and maybe working on self first to make sure it’s not you that is seeing things as they are not. My favorite saying is change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change. Thank you for sharing your opinion. I do appreciate it.

Charleston has more hospitality than Columbia. The housing might be more expensive, though.. You'll also find better restaurants and better sights to see in Charleston. The people can be a mixed bag. I've lived in both cities. I'm from Charleston and I went to school and worked professionally for most of my life in Columbia. I'm not in love with either city...They both have their pros and cons. Charleston seems to be growing a lot faster than Columbia is, though. Both have a lot of transplants now, but in Charleston, you're more likely to meet immigrants from all over the world. I will say that the black community is more politically and socially active in Charleston than it is in Columbia. Both have problems with crime. Charleston appears to be cleaner, though.. That's all I can say right now

If you like fishing and hunting the lakes in Ridgeville 30 minutes away are nice. Also, Cross and Pineville great for a relaxing day at the lake 45 minutes away. I am exploring on the weekends and having so much fun. Please check out historic Georgetown SC also. You will see some racism, but I would say a minimal amount in my opinion. @@nicolesmith5240 I agree. I have always been cautioned by others (including some realtors), about opinions from realtors, regarding living in a certain area. Not that they aren’t trying to be open or truthful, but I was informed that they are restricted in what they are permitted to say. It is even less transparent when coming from a native of that area. Most opinions from natives are going to shrouded in subconscious biases. They love their area, they lived there so long that cultural norms are accepted, and they have developed certain coping mechanisms that newcomers will not have. It would be hard for someone who is used to diversity, to ignore being the only black person in a room, for example. How could you not feel awkward, especially if the service happens to be substandard, as it is reported to be in so many places? Bottom line, take it all with a grain of salt, and get input from a variety of sources.

Hello there. I can only give you my personal experience and my view point. As a daughter, mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin of a large family with many friends all walks of life I can not give you bad sad racist stories of my experience as a black person living in Charleston. I enjoy life as I see fit and I do not have any negative black person racist experience to share. Others may have but I do not. So my video was to share with you my experience. Not others. And to share how if you are a black person thinking of moving to Charleston and have concerns well maybe think about why you would have those concerns and if you are the person who has the mindset I discussed in the video. Charleston is not only what you see on the news or tv. And as I said there are good and bad incidents and history in Charleston. I believe that is the case in many cities but Charleston is a great place to live, raise a family, and have a quality of life. I have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of my subscribers in person and have had intimate conversations about Charleston and they love it. If you want to ask specific questions then feel free to reach out to me. I am an open book and I will definitely tell you what I think and how I see it. “Real Answers” like you said. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinion. Looking forward to hearing you. 8439262007.

I am in charleston. I been here 1 week. The area I selected was Summerville to live and my apartment is southern living for sure. I think folks will like it. It's 20 mins from Charleston.

This is clickbait - you never answered your own question. You are attempting to change our minds on how to live in the area. Answer the question and stop deflecting.

Well I guess you will have to move to Charleston and ask another black person since I did not answer the way you would like. Good luck. Still a great place to live no matter what you are. 😊 Thanks for watching.

Please, as a black person, do not move somewhere expecting blacks or a black community or a white community to be of any true support to you. If you are after your goals and dreams, God gave it to you, not a community. Many times, a community do not want to see you succeed. And will try to spiritually steal your dreams and profit from it themselves. You have to know that it will be your own work and effort, along with the right true people.... that help you get to your goals. And that may come from any race. If you depend on a black community, you may never reach your dreams. But if you push forward and allow life to send the right people, not fakers who come to steal that vision, but the right people, then you are on the right track.

This was OK, but it didn’t really touch on where Black people hang out, gather, and if they feel as if they’re generally in an inclusive environment

Yes she’s working for the chamber of commerce. But I can see her going into a tank full sharks, most women will see them as pet fish. Born in SC it’s a dead giveaway if a person don’t say hello back. Watch your six. People just beware of your surroundings.

Don't move there! It sucks for a black person. Seriously, if you have to ask about it then you already know it sucks & you're trying to trick yourself into believing it's ok. The place really sucks & you could get stuck in that crab bucket.
