I left Charlotte in Feb 24' and bought a house in my hometown Columbia, SC. Charlotte is beautiful but Full AF but I could see why people from the Midwest and North would luv it there. Us Carolinians are over Charlotte and want more affordability and less traffic as we get older.
We probably gonna do the same, i just did a staycation there with wifey. Highly suprised what columbia had to offer. Think well probably get this rental property ( our first home ) then dip...
@Lmiller83 How is it in Greenville, SC or Charleston, SC? I was thinking about moving to either Charlotte or Raleigh, but South Carolina has caught my attention.
Born and raised in Charleston, SC. I watched this video because my brother has lived in Charlotte since he graduated from Winthrop years ago. Although we are both home owners, He and I often send one another listings from our area. For example, he purchased his 2300sq ft home (Charlotte, 704😂) for a little over $181k in 2017. It is now worth over $350k. My husband and I purchased our 2330sq ft home in 2021 (30 minutes from DOWNTOWN Charleston) for $303k. Since then, the equity in our home has surpassed $60k. The new homes being built around mine are over $100k MORE for the BASE model…NO UPGRADES. It is soooooo expensive in both Charlotte AND Charleston to rent AND own. Sad thing about Charleston is that I’ve watched it go from a top tourist destination to busting at the seams with over development and ZERO infrastructure to support the growth. While I still love my city, it definitely isn’t what I ever imagined it would become. #WeAreFull🤦🏽♀️ #DoNotProceed🚫 #TrafficNIGHTMARE🤬
Not everywhere is in the top 10 on the crime rates list outta the whole usa tho!! Myrtle beach too I think their in the top 5!! Look up the statics urself I'm sure u will be surprised especially if u live/ur from there!! I've looked them up before & WAS SHOCKED!!
I agree. I've been in Charlotte for over 20 years and it's still a great place. As a realtor I can honestly say that we are in a different time. People better learn how to earn more money because things are not going to get any cheaper.
Yhea it’s crazy bro. I’ve lived here my whole life too. I remember when concord mills was nothing but corn fields. This place used to to be really laid back now it’s crazy. I’m trying to find somewhere else to live.
I’ve seen horror stories of Black people moving to other countries so for Foundational Black Americans our best bet in honor of our ancestors is to stand ten toes down on our homeland that our ancestors built. There’s no escaping racism white supremacy so where are you really running to.😳😳
If only I could get my woman to listen to you smh lol We live in Maryland where the prices of homes are bat s*** crazy, I keep trying to tell her, this is what we can afford but she don’t like to crunch numbers like I do. Thank you for this video Joy, you are an excellent content creator, I mean that. Super informative and knowledgeable. Channels like this should be the one’s with 100k subscribers but unfortunately it seems like people only respond to gossip and filth smh Keep up the great work !
Yep. I know about Maryland! I have two that made good money but still moved a few months ago from Maryland where we lived for years and then moved away and they went back for a few years. Growing and learning pains , but they will be okay. . It’s super crazy!! If you didn’t get in and buy there years ago , then most likely you are priced out! Especially if you are single. People make good money there. But a chunk of it goes right out of the window. Most people who move from other places always say they wish they had done it sooner . I hope it works out.
I live in Maryland, you're right, the prices are ridiculously high!!! 23 years ago I bought a 3-bdrm, 2.5 bathroom house for $133k and after that I rented a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo for $1600 per month.
Charlotte is no different from any other big city in America! Everything is going up including crime. You can't go anywhere and see rent/prices the same as they were 10yrs ago it's just the world we now live in!
One of my friends from nursing school is in Charlotte working as a nurse to obtain a VISA. She and her husband has to float 2 households because he wasn't able to find work there, so he had to stay in ATL. Unfortunately, she hates it there because it's so expensive. She says she only has money to pay her bills and sleep. Her experience really changed my perspective on Charlotte.
Wonder where she working at as a nurse? I’m studying Rt now for my state exam, then I’ll be moving to Charlotte from Austin. I’ve looked at nurse pay, an I’ve seen some 30’s just for PN’s higher for RN’s. Also seen low pay. However it’s the south. You can’t play into the system mindset cos u will be lost completely. It’s way too many options out here for her to be saying she has no funds. She literally can travel as nurse to another state an make good, get a housing stipend. I’ve received some email w/offers an one offered over $1700 wkly housing stipend tax free+ almost $2k wkly pay. Ppl just nd to research, ask questions, & network. I wish her the best.
@godc1109 a lot of assumptions for you not to be a nurse yet. All travel contracts require 1-2 years experience, and it's a bold decision to try and travel with just 1. She hasn't even gotten to her first year of experience yet. I also mentioned that my friend is trying to obtain a VISA, which means she needs paperwork to stay in this country. She chose a hospital that would sponsor her, which happened to be in Charlotte. She can leave after she gets her VISA. Until then, that is the hospital she must stay and work for.
Charlotte normally makes you go to school here, they don’t accept you(Nurse certifications & work experience) from other states easily, they want you to go to school here👀or you’ll be in the Nursing Registry as a challenger😢
That's because of the housing bubble. Houses were cheaper everywhere. Houses were cheaper then. Many AAs were the most impacted, lost their homes and wealth during that same time though.
Great info and funny. You better tell them!!!! Same in and around Atlanta. My cousin called and said hey cuz I’m looking to move from Milwaukee to Atl. I’m looking for a 1bdrm for $700/$800 I said um that doesn’t exist anymore😂😂😂
Ms. Sherri, just type in apartments for rent in Atlanta...... you also see places in surrounding areas, they'll be a lot cheaper.... Walter Lee Hampton.... RU-vid, he'll give you the 4 11 ,on ATL. good luck, to you 👍
I moved here in Charlotte, last September and all this heavy traffic/ roundabouts… scared me so bad. I felt more secure in my mother’s womb. Every fifth vehicle has the front end or rear end swinging.😩
Great video! Here are a few corrections and data points that might help: 1. The train system in Charlotte, specifically the Blue Line, was first opened in 2007 for the portion that went from South Charlotte to Uptown/Downtown. The second half, extending from Uptown/Downtown to UNC Charlotte, opened in 2013. So, the train system is about 17 years old. 2. I-485, the beltway, has been completed since June 5, 2015. Time does fly-it's been done for 9 years. It was proposed in the 1970s, and the first part opened in 1990, so it took a while to get it done. 3. The I-77 toll road opened in 2019. 4. Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools has 180 schools. 5. Crime is an issue for a few reasons: - A lot of people are moving here. - The root cause is that elected officials have reduced the compensation package for the police force, believing it was too generous, even though officers risk their lives. - Additionally, the city is not funding the police department adequately, preventing it from growing with the city's population. Good video!
I love this!! Thank you!! When I tell you I have ZERO concept of time since the pandemic! It’s literally a running joke with me and my friends. I still think the 90s was 10 years ago 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you dearly!!! Traffic is horrendous, and the crime is absolutely increasing. So many vehicles are stolen right off of people's driveway. Is anyone concerned about this? Mayor, City Council, Sheriff? Still have my eyes on SC.
@@AllNatural7 The career criminal/repeat offender keeps being let back on the streets to commit the same or worse crimes, and, to be a negative influence on others in the neighborhood. The biggest issue is people getting convicted, getting probation and returning to the streets to continue their wicked ways. The Justice Reinvestment Act makes probation a joke. You can't be revoked on probation unless you are convicted of another crime. The court system is backlogged with cases so it may takes months or years before your matter is heard. Lots of people simply pick up new charges while on probation and the cycle never ends. It used to be that the probation officer could make a case to the court for revocation based on fact the offender picked up new charges. Not any longer. Unless you are actually convicted, the officer has no leverage.
Same in N.Y. . Repeat offenders who violated probation back in the day were behind bars asap!!! Now, they don't even mention probation officers any longer!! Probation officers used to visit the home on surprise visits, where are they, like dinosaurs, extinct!
@abrister2054 thank you for that insight! I'm believing this is all by design ... and the person in the W.H. now could care less. Nationwide so many of our good people were let go, and some resigned when forced to take the clot shot. I heard so many people saying this. It certainly didn't help when this administration started normalizing riots and stealing under $1000! Now that wickedness has trickled down and around. Devastating. Prayers abound... and a real leader of these United States is needed!
I was in Charlotte 2008 - 2021. I was there at rhe tail end of rhe affordability. 1. I was able to build a new home for 150k in 2015 ( off Mt Holly Huntersville Rd) that area was my compromise. Now those same homes being built are selling close to 300k. 2. I must say though the increased real estate market and HIGH RENT is impacting all the metro areas in the USA. Greater Atlanta where I lived 2021 -2023 is insane Columbus ohio is the same.
Whew, your point on Cols hit me. I live in DC, but coming from Columbus, Ohio; the prices I had in 2017, (could build a home for under 175k) when I went back to visit my sister last year who built her house outside of Columbus, to find out she spent 345k, I was mind blown. Never thought Columbus was going to spike like that. Many of the smaller metros tbh I thought we still had at least until 2030 before we saw that drastic increase.
Yeah, that Mt Holly Huntersville area was one of the "send them (black) there" locations. It started back in 08-09. Everyone and their momma could have a house in that area.
I lived in Roseland Apartments. Bought a house on the west side when the west side was considered deplorable. Now you cannot afford to live on the west side with all the new build going on. My home is red brick ranch style home. It is going for $300K nowadays. When I bought I qualified for first time home buyers program. $90K. Times have changed. ❤
I brought my first house in Citiside in 2001 for $100k, now it's worth $255k. I went thru House Charlotte and another program I can't remember as a first time homebuyer. Not sure if any programs other than Habitat for Humanity still exist now.
Hey girl hey. I’m a Charlottean and yes you are absolutely correct. You could still do different video(s) and part’s about why people shouldn’t just jump up and move here. I left went into the military came back and I don’t recognize it. I always advise people to visit to see how they like it and then try to visualize how the traffic, food prices, mortgage rates, low end jobs, food prices and just overall price gauging with inflation feels to them! Yeah Charlotte’s got a lot if you got a lot of money!! 😂
It's time for a change. I moved to Georgia almost 11 years ago and there's been NOTHING BUT CHANGE. There's NO way, NO room for things to STAY THE SAME. My family is from Atlanta, I'm SURE my ancestors are proud to see me doing things, THEY never dreamed of 😊
I grew up in Charlotte. I went to school there over 40 years ago. School and life was healthy living and affordable. Yes, life there has turned inside out.
Queen,u might as well include all other major Southern and Southwest cities in America.Because its the same issues. Folks I live in Houston. I love my city. But coming here without a skillset thinking its so much cheaper will get u in trouble. This is a "get to work, pull urself up" state. As sis stated, we also have don't have all these extra grants and benefits that exist in northern cities. U need a car throughout the South and Southwest. Imagine not having a car in a desert city like Phoenix and waiting on a bus 💀. Please come to these places prepared. They're all mostly not as affordable anymore with little protections if u can't make it.
I bet you got a better chance living and buying a home in Charlotte than Nashville TN!! It's outrageous everywhere. Middle TN use to be the most affordable place to live. The apartments are $2k staring with 1 bedrooms, an average 3 bedroom older remolded home will cost you starting at $300,000. If you build a new home or buy in Nashville you better come with at least 750+ score and a million dollars to invest in the Nashville Metropolitan area. Overcrowded and our streets, interstate is junk. It's sad!
I was thinking about buying property in TN because that’s one of our favorite get away places but when I started looking at homes and even land I was so shocked at how expensive things were.
@@timeoutcandleco.1215 TN is becoming another hotspot. Beautiful state, but no longer cheap. Unless u live on the eastern side, within the Appalachian trail. But that is an impoverished region tbh.
Girl! When you said your kid might need to know how to fight I hollered! I have 2 teens at Hopewell. They're always talking about the kids smoking on the bus and at school. We haven't had any issues, but we're leaving Charlotte next month. I don't like this new Charlotte. I love Huntersville but it's too expensive for me.
My son’s culinary teacher was arrested TODAY!!!!!! These schools are wild!!! I like Huntersville too. It’s safe. (Outside of the whole dababy walmart incident)
I enjoyed listening to your video… I’m also a Charlotte native and there aren’t many of us around. I was an unprivileged child growing up in foster care and eventually being adopted. I have built 2 homes in the surrounding areas within 20 minutes of Charlotte and purchased in Charlotte SouthPark area… my property value has increased substantially. So words of encouragement to others you do not have to remain poor here but you will have to work hard and put yourself in the best position possible to achieve success here!!!
Thank you for this HONEST video… I was telling my friend.. no one is Charlotte really lives alone. You’re roommating, married or co-habitating with romantic partners and if you live alone you’re working multiple jobs and it’s really just by the grace of God. This place is so congested and it’s becoming incredibly uncomfortable. I understand people who are selling and making these “move to Charlotte” videos are trying to get a coin but at the same time is overwhelming for current residents. Charlotte, FL, and TX are the hot spots and we are ALL FULL lol. The whole country cannot comfortably live in these few places 😩
This young lady is on point! A couple of years ago, I had to catch an Uber in Charlotte and was taken through a neighborhood or two in the “South End” area. It was absolutely beautiful and I saw exactly what she described about investors buying up older, smaller homes, tearing them down, and building those new modern homes. There was a new apartment building that had been built there with the balconies looking down right over South Blvd. if I remember correctly. The price is just as she mentioned…… sky high. But, the overwhelming majority of all that she said does apply everywhere in this economy.
Peoples have to realize, the move people that move into these affordable state, and cities, I drives the prices up. Now those who could once afford it are finding themselves having to move because they can’t afford it anymore, especially those who are renting. Now on the other hand, those who paid a great price for their homes are reaping the benefits because their homes have increased in value and they are using that to sale at a higher price and get a big chunk back. Now depending on what their plans are if deciding to repurchase, they may pay all cash and opt for a used home but whatever it is, I’m seeing it happen.
I moved to Charlotte 11 years ago from Florida. LAWD! It was a struggle for 8 of those years. My husband and I are wanting to move in the outskirts but many of those prices are "off the chain"! I had to update my skill set in order to maintain. I use the toll to avoid the traffic. It use to take me 2 hrs to get to work from East to South on the city bus. It was years before I met a considerable amount of Charlotte Natives (once I met my husband that changed) and Charlotte is clique-ish.
Its crazy the apartments i stayed in 2018 a one bedroom with a garage was $954...now that same apartment with not much change is $1528.... insanity.....i hate my city now all the people moving here from the north and Cali, and these builders coming here messing it up....over price homes and apartments
Such a great video. I’m from Mississippi but really grew up in Chicago and lived in DC for about 7 years. I will be moving to Charlotte this year and can’t wait. When you moving from Chicago trust me Charlotte offers much better living for Black professionals. Charlotte is absolutely affordable compared to Chicago. Charlotte has become a melting pot that is very attractive. I love Charlotte. Chicago is so expensive that even with a high income you’re still struggling to make ends meet and it’s getting worse even in the Chicago suburbs. The traffic, crime, taxes and political downfall are all devastating Chicago residents. Charlotte offers a much more better quality of living. Loving your advice but I still am very excited for the change and opportunity. Then again I’m completely open to the Charlotte suburbs. I challenge you to visit Chicago for a month and hear your post Chicago perspective. The cost of living is extreme all over the country. Prime example is 1brm apartments in downtown Chicago average 2200-2600 a month. The stats reported are never ip to date and don’t reflect middle class renters. People are moving out of Chicago because making $100,000 a year means you can’t afford middle class neighborhoods here. It’s sad but clearly a reflection of poor money management, extreme inflation and poor city management which results in increased home foreclosures, elevated crime, increased job loss and let’s not forget increase in stress. Bye bye Chicago. I’m out. Hello Charlotte.
I moved down to Huntersville last year. I lived in Chicago and in Normal, Illinois as well and I can say this has been a great move. The only downside is that I work from home and do not get out as much but I am still glad I came here. I think you will like it but you will have to it being really dark at night because they don't believe in streetlights here like they have in the city.
This young lady fully admits. She's been hardly anywhere besides two places in her entire life. If she moved to a bad part of the Midwest or east coast or West Coast she would run back to Charlotte 190, mph and cherish what she had whether she was in an apartment, a nice house or the ghetto of Charlotte
I didn’t know that I was defending myself. What do you mean I admit. The entire point is from the perspective of a Charlottean that converses with people nationwide daily about HOUSING. I’m a bit befuddled by the nature of the comment. There is a tone that suggests my fact based opinion should be discredited. But thanks for the comment. I encourage multiple perspectives.
@@TheMortgageBawse I've been around and it's a great place. I would recommend it. I'm in Greenville right now but I left the fort Mill area and before that I was in on the north side of Charlotte. Then the south side of Charlotte. I like them all. Even the Northside compared to where I'm from
@@frankstudent , I didn't sell any black Americans. When I came to America, I thought I would be welcomed by my black brothers here, but they kept telling me to go back to africa.
New to your channel and thank you for this. I'm a JCSU alum who just returned for the commencement for the first time since before Covid. I was impressed with the changes you all have made. I liked the little Camp North End area.
Another issue when having a mortgage is including property taxes and insurance with the mortgage. I did not have my property taxes included. Why are many mortgage companies doing this? You are aware that many people are complaining about their mortgage payments going up because of this issue, right? They are no longer able to afford their payments as a result. People's incomes cannot keep up with these increased payments! Another issue is that these investors are buying up a lot of developments so they can rent them out, which makes it even harder for people to buy a home. There are a lot of issues here that need to be rectified.
That’s so true. We can’t even compete when it comes to try to get land or purchasing a home or even rental property. Them now becoming landlords and it’s still not affordable. A few homes in my area was purchased and rented out by some company. My friend home was purchased by this company. She paid 145k in 2018 and sold in 2022 it for 329,900 then move a little further out and pd cash for her next home. Even though it was used, no mortgage payment.
Thumbs up you met a lot of truth Much of what’s going on in Atlanta and Surrounding Areas I live in Gwinnett Co about 40 mins from the city it’s crazy 1800 for a 1 bedroom/1ba.
When the taxes & insurance are included in mortgage, (PMI) it goes by income and credit rating. If income is high and credit decent, PMI isn’t included automatically. PMI is a protection for the bank. It makes sure you’re not getting behind in taxes, & insurance. The bank is covering their investment.
I remember Charlotte back in the 80s before the skyscrapers and it was affordable back then, but boy did it grow and grow fast and still growing. Everything you're talking about is 100% correct. Traffic is a nightmare and the grid system is terrible especially getting on the interstate.
I’m from nyc but moved here after 8yrs living in Pa and a failed marriage I picked up with my kids and moved down here. I have family here. I like that it is diverse and there are so much to do but as a single person it is hard only thing has me sane and blessed is God. The ppl are more snobby than us New Yorkers , traffic is horrible absolutely horrible with crazy insane drivers, the crime makes me nervous. My plan is to stay here for another year and by next fall move
Unless your coming from up north, where your home sold for double what Charlotte homes are worth, come from legacy money like people in the Myers park area, or are a two income household with no kids, the average working person in Charlotte can’t afford a house here. And as far as renting, you’re pretty much screwed unless you can get a section 8 voucher and move to a neighborhood where someone is willing to take it
It's sad but this is exactly the same thing happening in Orlando and South Florida and Madison Wisconsin. I'm sure it everywhere now. But I can speak for these three areas cause I've lived in all three in the past two years
Even then they can't afford it. We neck and neck as far as price with states up north. Then they don't factor in things we pay for that they didn't have to up north. There is no advantage
I'm starting to hate Charlotte, and I'm about to move to the country area....My rent is $1800 for a one bedroom....and now the low life weed smokers are moving in...so now it's 420 smells in the stairwell "Smdh"...Traffic is always bad unless it's between midnight and 5am....it's too crowded, ..I'm tired of seeing so many people...Downtown is Gentrofied "just keeping it 💯 "...You speaking straight truth my Sista
I moved to Raleigh NC area from another state 4 years ago. I have a Great job here in Raleigh, but it's getting super expensive here as well. Cost of living is insane now-a-days. Traffic here is bad too, leaving work is a nightmare.
I use to live in Cary. Beautiful place to live. I moved there for my job in Raleigh. Raleigh and a lot of the surrounding areas there are expensive. I hated the traffic going to and coming from work.🤦🏾♀️
I bought my home in 2003 for 165k 7 mins outside Charlotte's university city in a great school district . If someone were to purchase my home today they would be spending starting 400k +, and thats average now.😬 I wouldn't be able to afford my area if I purchased it today, because the surrounding neighborhoods are 1million+ starting. I work all over charlotte and surrounding areas. The traffic is definitely getting worst and it's everywhere. (Please stop moving here the roads aren't equipped 😂). Sometimes even the back roads have traffic due to construction. Now, as for CRIME! I'm originally from Baltimore, MD, and Charlotte has deeefinitely seen an equivalent increase. Heck my children go to whats considered a "bougie" upper class school and it's more fights there then what's considered a middle and/or lower class school. Smh ....but it's definitely beautiful here in alot of areas. Ps: I cosign on make sure your child knows how to fight😂 and it's very clique-ish and materialistic. 👀🤑💅🏽🍸🚘🛍
I agree with you. We live in High Point NC. My daughter won a scholarship to Queens University. She graduated in 5/24. She was amazed at the wealth she was surrounded by in Myers Park. She worked at the local pharmacy and Nannied / babysat for the residents of those multimillion dollar homes. She became bougie during her stay in that area. ( Ex. Shop at Target, refuse to shop at Walmart, Starbucks, vegan, hot yoga etc.) For her junior and senior year she lived in Elsbeth in some VERY EXPENSIVE apartments, off Weddington Ave. Her 1 bedroom rent was more than our house payment. We used her scholarship $ to help pay her rent. I’m so DONE with this economy. I pray for us all! 🙏🏽
If you grew up in a very tough City in the North Midwest or West Coast, you will love Charlotte whether you can afford to buy a home or not. Because the truth is they are more peaceful and cleaner and this is coming from someone who lived in Atlanta. Charlotte, South Carolina and I'm from the Midwest. Originally the dirty part
I want to buy a house outright!! That's where my mind is at this point!!! I had a mortgage 23 years ago in Maryland, $133k for a 3 bdrm, 2.5 bathroom home. I rented a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo after that, $1600 k per month. These prices are beyond ridiculous now!!!!!!!!!!
I lived in Charlotte from 4/2021 to 6/2024 and brought a house outside of Florence. My one bedroom luxury apt in Matthews NC was $1946 a month. My new mortgage on a 5 bedroom/3 full bathrooms a loft on .75 acres for 325k new construction is $2280. I make six figures but that same house in Charlotte is almost 600k. I’m 1 1/2 from Charlotte now so don’t be struggling trying to be somewhere u can afford and save money. Traffic is terrible I lived off 74 Independence and people can’t drive. There aren’t shortcuts without traffic. CIAA fooled a lot of people 😂😂😂 I wasn’t struggling but I’m financially smart and aware of my future
I lived in Greensboro, NC for 6 years then I moved to Charlotte, NC. I lived in The Vue Apartments in Uptown. Charlotte is a beautiful city, but slow to me. I moved to Atlanta, and am happy with my decision.
Everybody wants to squeeze into Charlotte, but Raleigh (the capital city) is much better! It’s a totally different feel but you make more money in Raleigh and your money goes much farther. I’ve lived in both cities and Raleigh is the hidden gem. I live in Atlanta now but I’ll be back in NC before the year is out.
Yes Raleigh is the best city in Earth. I’m so jealous I don’t live there. Hey everyone please read this!!!!! Raleighwood is poppin waaaayyyy more than Charlotte. You don’t want to move here trust me. BORING!!
Oh ive been in Raleigh for 20 years and 👎 nope, aint no room here. Raleigh connects with the RTP (research triangle park) which is the silicone valley of the East coast. Trust me , Californians and Texans have maximized the last of the space out. 😢
@@TheBlackconsigliere it's not that bad anymore from what I hear. I'm near Belmont but I go into Gastonia daily and have friends that live in nice neighborhoods here. Some areas are definitely not good though but that's everywhere.

@@TheMortgageBawse (We Are Israelites) Phillip Scottt Podcast Tells This Narrative! Is it true (CHINESE) foreign investors are buying up all of the homes to keep away from Blacks OR Israelites?
Everyone all over the country is pretty much saying this, which I find ironic. As a New Yorker (who gre up in NC) I was actually welcoming the news that people were "fleeing the city" during and after the pandemic. And while those news stories were in full swing, I just kept noticing new high rises being built, which was expected because those plans were in the works for quite some time prior to that. *But...* what I was expecting was for those luxury, gentrifying apartment buildings to be hard to have their occupancy filled. Oh, how wrong I was. As soon as those buildings opened, they filled up immediately 😮💨 One of which is like a 30-story building that looks completely out of place in my neighborhood. But that only means that there are more of those coming, which will completely change the landscape and the population. Loved this video. There should be one of these videos for every city honestly.
New family member here. Really enjoying your page. As a Nurse I have been planning my move to Noda since 2021. Visit once and knew it was expensive for me on 80,000 salary I would be making in NC. But in Texas I make 130,000. I decided to wait to take that pay cut. Because that 2600 a month isn’t a joke. Again, I appreciate you so much. See you in 2025. 🙏🏽
Hey girl heeeyyy! Thanks for subbing! Just have your money in order because when rates come down it’s gonna be go time. Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready.
Charlotte is not for the average working people!Charlotte has really outsourced people with extremely expensive rent.Thats why people are moving to other towns close to Charlotte.
We've had many friends who have sold paid -for homes in the suburbs of Maryland/ Washington, DC and moved to Charlotte. They are the only ones I know who consider Charlotte "affordable". I live in Winston Salem!
@tracywalker244 I love Winston Salem. We moved from Baltimore, MD and are about an hour and a half northeast of Charlotte. Good roads, manageable traffic, low key, laid back vibes. I can't speak to the employment opportunities because I am retired, but like in many places, the biggest employers are in healthcare and education.
I’m an original Charlotte native, and although my husband and I moved away from 1997-2009, and when we relocated back here, it felt like a total cultural shock. I feel that we have been forced out, especially for those on a fixed income, that have to work in order to afford a place to stay, and it’s only getting worse.
Native Charlottean (704 born) and Aggie graduate here... Class of 2021. Alot of people are completely wrong about Charlotte. Everything is expensive and all the prices are only going up. The hacks are dried up. "Rent Specials" are there to get you in the door. Once they adjust it to "market rate" the truth is revealed. Traffic and aggressive drivers are the worse. They are building "luxury" apartments everywhere and overnight. Crime is crazy for a city this size. Everyday there's a mu*der or shooting. Wheres a good date night spot for me and my lady without "the element" being there killing the vibe. The Hornets and Panthers are a joke, but both owners increased their ticket prices. Don't believe the hype.
Philly here, we do have $150,000 houses however it’s in high crime neighborhoods. Philly houses in a “fair” neighborhood is $250,000 plus. The south use to be cheaper than the north years ago, I think it’s expensive everywhere. And you are right Philly do have programs to assist however you have to qualify
I'm in South Philly, born and raised. COMPLETELY different than it was. I'm surprised to hear this because I know ppl that moved to Charlotte. My one friend is moving in a week or so. I'm glad I came across this video.
Very thorough and accurate analysis. I remember when houses were $150k, my mom got one. I was lucky to get mine for 200’s. Not anymore. I remember when traffic was only bad at rush hour, now it’s bad all day. I remember when crime was so low, they had nothing to report on the news. Not anymore. Overall, I still love the city. I’m praying my neighborhood stays safe and quiet for a few more years until we leave for the beach! Charlotte has definitely changed, not sure if it’s for the better.
As someone who has frequented Charlotte many times since moving to Fayetteville back in 2000 as well as having Atlanta ties, it is amazing to see how much the city has grown. It's definitely a sign of the times not only in Charlotte but in many other Southern cities as well. The South is where it's at right now! Great info and spitting straight facts. From one AGGIE to Another, AGGIE PRIDE!!!
I am so glad a Black woman from North Carolina is speaking on truth because I am from DC and live in Raleigh for many of years well have live in North Carolina for many of years and it is very expensive I have had very much struggles. I have told my friends this back home and let me tell you something it is a beautiful state but it is very expensive.
@@TheMortgageBawse the thing is, I moved here when I was in my twenties and at that time they didn't have what they have now where these young people are able to have Bitcoin and all of those things to help you get rich
@@mrmillennium2697 it doesn't matter if it's Raleigh, charlotte, Durham etc the point is it is still North Carolina and the rules still apply. Now, I do not feel like going back and forth with anyone so please do not respond or I will block you.
Tryon Hills, Dillehay Courts , South Side Homes , Brook Hill, Boulevard Homes, Ponderosa, Nations Ford, Beatties Ford , Sugar Creek, Derita, Sunset Road, Charlotte is a big beautiful city. Love the people and the city. Used to be a Charlottean .
Oh you forgot Earle Village,Peidmont Courts those where the days you didn't know we where poor cause we got anything we wanted. I'm from the Eastside Sandlewood, Farm-Pond Lane.
Charlotte used to be a good city but got worse and worse after 2015. Traffic got crazy, Independence been slammed for years, New Yorkers can't drive but you need a car to drive around, i could go on.
I live in Harrisburg, which is right over the University city line in Charlotte. I grew up right down the street in the university area in Charlotte. That area has changed so much, I avoid it now at all cost. My son goes to school in Cabarrus county. CMS has plummeted tremendously over the years, I (my ex husband doesn’t care) wasn’t gonna stand around and let my son go to CMS. I tried to save my nieces and save them from CMS, they’re both at James Martin Middle (my old middle school I attended in the late 90’s- 00. My oldest niece there gets into fights so much and gets suspended almost every month. I told my brother not to let them go there, I was even willing to take them in so they could go here in Harrisburg. You forgot to mention the death of Ethan Riveria, the CATS bus driver that was killed in 2022.
The YT algorithm brought me to your page and I am glad that it did...bravo and great job to you Mortgage Bawse. I am a Charlotte native and you are spot on with all that you have said and I must say as a native Charlottean , I appreciate your honesty. If you haven't been told before, you may want to consider a run for local office; I will totally support your candidacy. Just consider it, you never know. Lastly, go NCCU!!! 😁
Thanks I'm from Rock Hill I did live in Charlotte for 2 years loved it I'm a Chef 👨🍳 love the money but im a keep my butt in Rock Hill I stayed in Pittsburgh Pa for 13yrs
I love this!! You rocked it with realness! It mirrors Atlanta. Except I call JuneBug, Ray Ray 😂 They come here thinking they are gonna live like the RHOA, wanting to be a rapper ect. My once quiet, peaceful diverse, neighborhood on the outside of the city has turned into a version of Love and hip hop 😭
Been here since 1991 and completely grew with the city. Brought a home and now retired. Would love to sell and down-size, but the cost of houses is astronomical high. My only alternative at this point is to sell and move away. Paying $400(k) and up for a new house is not an option. Charlotte is definitely a different city.
I used to work for Harris Teeter and rode the bus from the West side to the South side. It took me about and hour and half to get to work and back. That was bad enough. But what is worse is the men that ride the bus. They are very creepy. Young and old alike. I would feel completely violated every day regardless of whether i was spoken to or not just because of the stares. And I am not a goodlooking woman. If you do move here make sure you have your own transportation if you are a female
I'm born and raised in ATL, and natives don't call areas outside of Atlanta proper Atlanta. I believe this tendency started by transplants who just say "Atlanta" when asked where they stay because they are unfamiliar with the area and because ATL serves as a general and commonly known city lol.
No lies told. I moved here 2.5 years ago from Nashville. I bought a home in Huntersville, and I'm really not crazy about this area. Probably gonna sell my home and move back home.
This is soooo incredibly accurate!!!! I live in Salisbury and I still. Pay almost 1600 dollars a month to rent a townhouse. My ex husband lives in Charlotte and my children do attend school in Charlotte the fights are real but my children are still getting a great education. Thank you for this video! I was actually looking at Kannapolis to move a little closer.
It’s the same in the Charleston,SC tri-county area. It used to be fairly affordable, now it’s out of control. City bus only public transportation so traffic is outrageous. No affordable homes for sale because people don’t sell/move, especially now with the cost of new home prices. Job market isn’t great, but people keep moving here. 🤦🏾♀️
Because it’s “cheaper” not realizing they are driving the costs up. I’m all for moving to better ones comfort of living but I have to state the obvious of how it impacts the people that were already there.
If you are not making atleast $85 K and up don't move there, I Uber and Lyft drove Charlotte and I hear the struggles of the people that have been there all their life. The best thing to do is move to the outskirts of Charlotte like Huntersville, Gastonia and Fort Mill/Rock Hill and that area is starting to rise up based on what is going on in Charlotte.
So, let me give some context here: I live in one of those "little tiny towns" outside of Atlanta. Ive lived in and around Atlanta since 1995. You CANNOT, I repeat CANNOT buy a house in Atlanta proper or anywhere else in Atlanta metro for $275K. If you find it, congratulations! You've found a fixer upper. My $296K new build in 2020 is now $485K. You want to buy in the city? You're going to pay well above a half a million dollars for a house. Want to live in the Buckhead neighborhood? 1M, easy!
Moved here in 2015, after getting out the Air Force. Purchased a home in 2021 right before the rates went up. I’m on the east side right between Harrisburg and Mint Hill. I love it here. Savannah Ga native so I’m still four hours from home.
I really like the video and you really touched on a lot of different areas, however, I do have to go back to the affordability cost when it comes to Charlotte. Now, like you say you’re coming from up north like New York or even the West Coast like California, which are very expensive to live in those two places then Charlotte might be for you. I do understand where you’re coming from when it comes to the cost-of-living in Charlotte. As you mentioned, it was a lot less cheaper to rent or buy a home back in the day. As for me, someone who was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Charlotte is affordable. I do agree with the transportation is not the best so you would definitely need a car UNLESS you stay downtown area, you can possibly get away with Uber, local buses and/or taking those two light rails that’s in the city. The weather is nice same weather as Atlanta. The food It’s not the greatest, but Charlotte does have some good places to eat that are new and upcoming. Charlotte’s not a bad to relocate to, but you do have to have your finances together, get a car if you can, have a plan on what your gonna to do out there, like career etc. and take just a chance. That’s what I believe. Good luck to anybody that’s moving. 🙏🏼
Great video! Moved here in 2007 and was issued a (704) 😉. Learned quickly that locals don’t mix with newbies, cool np! Active real estate agent from 2008-2019 dealt with a lot disillusioned buyers 😂. I sold many properties between $50-$75k that have tripled in value by now. No longer active but still licensed RE agent. LOVE THIS VIDEO. IT IS THE TRUTH!!!!
🙏🏽Thank you for this video. I’ve moved to Charlotte based off a video suggesting it’s one of the Top 10 cities to move to in 2023-24. It’s a weird place to live. I’ve been here for a little over a year & can’t figure out the vibe here. Traffic is horrendous due to SC slower drivers & inconsiderate turns without proper signals. The city is slow paced with tons of “white” bars but limited “black” venues. The food here is horrible. The locality pay is hugely limited. I’ve experienced theft with items stolen out of my vehicle parked at my apt. Complex in the Plaza Midwood area. Supposedly, luxurious & a safe area. Unless born in Mecklenburg County, Charlotte, or a smaller city (my opinion), you will not like it here in Charlotte. Try Raleigh instead. At least, they’re aware it’s not a big city. However, on a more plush trajectory. I’ve decided to return back to DMV based off home prices & rent options. I’d rather pay these higher price for more culture, variety & a distinct vibe. Though, thank you for this enlightening video. I wish I’d watched this video first prior to moving here. 🏆🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
North Carolina people are strange, many are just slow, with slave mentality black folk, native whites who still want them that way still thinking it’s the 50’s. But while you’re treating them like they’re slow…they’re running country game the whole time and they will get you especially financially. It’s like no other state. They bury their dead right out in the yard, in the fields... You buy land there you don’t know who’s buried in the yard bc the markers/headstones may not be there. Trust, think twice.
Great video, I moved to Charlotte in 1997 stayed there until 2013. I moved back to SC due to meeting my husband. I tried moving back in 2022, but I could not afford the cost of living so I moved back to my fully paid off home in SC….Charlotte is beautiful and I do love the city.
Thank you for this video. I grew up in the area and remember when you could get a really nice two bedroom apartment for $500. The same apartments are now $2000 and up. You also need a reliable car and a job that pays well. I miss the places I used to visit. It used to be fun but now it’s getting frustrating.
@@brittneys8333 agreed I have said for a long time the allure of the South has always been its cheap prices. It's the cheap prices why any educated person is willing to deal with the high levels of racism and backwards down here. Once prices in the South become just as expensive as a LA or NYC then you will see people stop moving down here.
Most of these corporations are closing. AI will take over 100 million jobs. Most people with homes there so called mortgages payments are going up and that everyplace
Sundown town mean N words ain't allowed after dark and you do have to many undercover white Supremacy groups upset black people are doing better than them in and around Charlotte.
New subby . You’re awesome. Thanks for being transparent about your changes in life”losing your first home) I too went through the same. We’re okay. You live and you learn. ❤🎉
I visited Charlotte 20 years ago, and enjoyed myself to the fullest! The women were very friendly and they bought me drinks instead of the other way around. They took me to restaurants that were on the water front and the food was top notch. I wanted to move to Charlotte, but the cost of living is sky high now. When I was there the trail system was just being built. They have some classy lounges and restaurants to go to, also. I'm going to Salvador in September, and I think that may be my relocation destination.
