Going mushrooming or to gather berries in Finland a guide is a must, or learning some specific species like kanttarelli from 'shrooms and mustikka and puolukka from the berries. Everything that is not the learned resource, might be poisonous. For example the valkokärpässieni is deadly and it looks a lot like the champignon. In the same vein many of the red berry bushes are poisonous, but the good ones are easy to recognize . When I pick something, it's from the good list, but this is not something you should try to learn only by the net.

One of my favourite hot liquid for food is Californian Tabasco. Organic stuff is much better tasting in US I think. Your climate is easier because you can go to southernpart of US and feel the summer even it is winter time.

Karjalanpiirakka is culturally protected recipe (note: not a secret recipe). The pastry can be called as karjalanpiirakka only when it is made with the authentic recipe. Riisipiirakka when you haven't. :D

The beginning was unintentionally comedic, but it went away after excitement waned somewhat after first couple minutes. It is nice to hear you love our Finland. I am personally rather fond of it as well. I thought at first you said that "Jews concentrate..." I mean yeah, we only have two synagogues in Helsinki and Turku so of course they would concentrate there. Oh, you meant juice concentrate and that's why you started talking about berries soon after. How silly of me! Anecdote of Lithuanian girl at the bar(?) was interesting and funny. I should visit U.S sometimes myself. You need to be careful with berries indeed. I picked some with my Chinese friend last month and she thought Lily of the Valley (Kielo) berries, which are poisonous, were sea buckthorn (tyrni). We both ate a few. Luckily we didn't even really get sick. What do I love in Finland? Well, I got back to Turku from my mom's home in countryside today and there's a good brewery restaurant here in Turku called Koulu. It is in old koulu-building.

It is culturally appropriate to say Karelian pie. Because name has EU regulated safeguards only bageries in Karelia can use name Karelian pie. Similar pies made outside Karelia are called in commercial usage Rice pies. Otherwise they are same Karelian pies. After ww2 Karelian refugees brought Karelian pie to all over Finland.
