It's interesting to see these videos from real estate people who I doubt grew up in the Rogue Valley. I was born and raised there, lived 11 miles out of town near Murphy. I left the area in the late 1980's for better work options elsewhere. You didn't mention one of the big events which takes place at Riverside Park Memorial Day weekend is the Boatnik Festival weekend, parade, hydroplane boat races, etc. Regarding the smoke, yes we do get fires here in the NW. But also the Rogue Valley is geographically situated and suspectable to temperature inversions. This where the air gets trapped under another layer of air, different temperature and basically gets trapped until another frontal system comes thru and is able to move the air out, not limited to only one time of year. My opinion if people like the nightlife and all the manmade entertainment of cities, GP and the valley isn't the place for them. We entertained ourselves, lots of outdoor activities, the has approximately 75 Percent of the land owned by the state or federal government so there is a lot of nature and outdoor activities to enjoy. Also for culture check out Ashland and the Shakespearean festival, it's on a world class level. When I was growing up Grants Pass (Josephine County) had the best rated county fair in the state of Oregon which was impressive for the population size of the county. We used to draw a number of top entertainers to play at the fair. I think much has changed since then.

Hi Travis. Do you know how Roseburg compares to Grants Pass on the smoke issue? Is there as much smoke in Roseburg during the fire season? Thanks. Helpful video.
@tmoddison
@tmoddison 2 года назад
Hi Michael! Glad the video is helpful. It is sort of hit or miss. Some days, or weeks, or years, Roseburg is better off. Other times GP is better off. It really has to do with which way the wind blows. The coast is the best off, and the coastal air and breeze keeps the smoke away, and rarely does the smoke make it over the Cascades. Of course, this is all dependent on where the fire is located. Does that make sense??
@Michael-xr5yx
@Michael-xr5yx 2 года назад
@@tmoddison Definitely. Thanks very much. Are you aware of anywhere on the Oregon coast that has a climate like Roseburg or drier? Lived in Portland all my life and I'm done with it - the people and the constant rain. I don't want to move to a desert, or anywhere with severe snowy winters, but I'd love a bit of a sunnier climate. Roseburg seems like a good fit but I wonder if there's anywhere on the coast that fits that criteria? Thanks so much for your help.

Having lived here 20+ years, I'm seriously considering moving out of this town. I used to love it...GP has a lot of potential, a lot of building and improvement. BUT....it has now turned to SHIT, in just the last few years. IGNORANT residents with no desire to improve themselves, much less their properties. Virtually everyone is way overweight, Primary Care is crap, and homes are generally becoming dilapidated. NOW, the summer heat is ungodly, and unbearable. Drugs and crime are out of control. The cops are good people, but the City Council has zero ideas on how to deal with a deteriorating town. In fact, they will not even address it. My great fear is if a regional emergency happens affecting Grants Pass, there's enough IGNORANT PEOPLE to endanger your safety and your family's safety. The town despises anyone wanting this town to improve it. The once=good education is now a babysitting service, nothing else.
