The sales tax is around HALF of what it typically is in many states. (@4.712%) It doesn't assuage the dauntless, expense of everything, in Hawaii, but it could be twice what it is! 😳
Retired in NY, and hoping to get home one day. I never had to experience the expensive side of growing up in Honolulu, because I was a kid, but now as an adult I see. God Willing I'll be there soon. Keep up the great videos. They allow me opportunity to enjoy Home till I find a way back. Mahalo.

It is not really expensive. Certain things are expensive . FOOD is expensive. Just don't eat out ! That is IT. Low homeowners and car insurance, low taxes. You do not buy clothes. Go to dry cleaner. You do not have to go to the movies or pay roe a gym membership. ALOHA!
Hawaii is the most expensive state in the country cost of living and taxes is the second highest in the country, and economic is one of the baddest in the country Hawaii has become the most expensive state in the country and economy growth is one of the lowest in the country, the only thing that Hawaii is relying on is the tourism nothing else, housing is on the top of the country that is higher than any state in America the only thing Hawaii has is the beauty of the island and that’s it, politicians only talk and lies to get elected and do nothing after that they are so brainwashed and deceiving people to believe what they say but don’t do anything to help the people prosperous, they have become so selfish only looking after their own family, you might need to do some research so you know how bad shape Hawaii is
Lived on 42nd floor in Waikiki! Best thing I've ever done! You forgot to Mention the very active volcano on The Big Island. The R.E. prices in Orange county, California are now Much higher than Oahu.
Just left not the way it use to be. What she is showing. Oahu is over crowded over built and way too expensive. The water is no enough. And the other island at least a million for dissent house.
I think I must have been an islander in a previous life! Lol. Back home in Missouri from a foiled vacation due to covid 9/2023 - however Kauai captured my heart - so many locals extended kindness and love, and my husband’s life was saved at Wilcox. I want to return to Kauai - I want to give back to those who cared for us.
idk, we don't need more people on the islands. the more people we attract to live here, the more expensive it gets. although these videos maybe beneficial for realtors with more and higher commissions, but negatively impact our native people being priced out of their own home.

One thing I do know about Islands is for some reason you're really stuck on them and especially islands that are kind of far away like New Zealand and other places or other somewhat large islands like Britain or Japan is that if you're far away from a continent there are some advantages and disadvantages to and it seems to have a lot to do with the geography of places it really affects certain things regarding life a lot of people think that it's Paradise living in the Bahamas or something and wherever people are at whether it's New Zealand or something like that there are pet peeves about every place. And whether you live there for a long time or you're just visiting if you're really aware pay attention to detail and things like that you'll notice something familiar about certain Island areas and how the geography affect certain things regarding a lot of different varieties environmental angiography problems

So the realtor says, we, our, gated communities, seems to be very little left for the native Hawaiian there, just bits and pieces of what is left of the lost hawaiian culture. Puerto Rico is slipping down the same slope and it is very sad.
3:17 "People are generous on Kauai because they got hit by a hurricane." This is a nonsensical comment. People of Kauai have been nice and giving because it is part of the culture. Having a low population there adds to the ability to be nice. When you have large populations of people, they tend to bump into each other and are more likely to be more disgruntled. The hurricane has little to do with it. It isn't like prior to the hurricane they were all a$$holes on kauai. I would know.
What to know about moving to Hawaii--Oahu specifically? 1. Don't move there. It's not what it's cracked up to be. What Hawaii is sold as, and what it actually is, are worlds away. Visiting vs living there is also worlds away. Just...don't.
Okinawa is what Honolulu should be. I left Honolulu and moved to Japan and eventually retired in Okinawa. I never could afford this in Honolulu. Okinawa is what Honolulu was supposed to be before democrats and liberals ruined it. Walmart is closing soon and the entire downtown forth street mall is terrible and why I eventually left for japan.

Left So Cal and moved back to Honolulu in 2016, staying here for the rest of my life! Couldn't live anywhere else! Cali has surpassed the isles of a much higher cost of living, San Diego is no longer a bargain like it used to be.

Me and my wife wanna come to Hawaii so bad, whether it’s on a cruise ship or us flying to Hawaii for a week vacation, we can totally do it, I was looking on Expedia and it ranges from 1500 to 2000$ per person but that includes flight + stay, it’s not bad if you think of it, it is Hawaii, we’re gonna go, you only live once you know, nice video also

Jesus, 4k for both for a week ? Now let me tell ya what i did last year. I payd 45 000 for me and my friend we been 117 days intercontinetal cruise 33 countries + guess what ... we visit Hawaii too. I was surprised with the hyper overprised stuff - $5 flip flops cost $100 and 10$ slippers more than 100$.. 22500 per person for 33 countries and 117 days cruise versus 4k for 7 days... where is the logic in this ? i'm not judging anyone just super surprised.
Believe it or not I was like I won’t shop at Whole Foods because it’s more expensive so I went to safe way, and I was like nope 👎 I went back to Whole Foods at Ala Moana and spend less than what I would have spend at Safeway

haven't visited the islands since the 70,s but heard at work the chinese bought up all the real estate in the 90,s. makes me wonder what happened to the natives of these islands. last i was there was native Hawaiians everywear now all i see is either European or Asians in walking videos
I enjoyed the video until you said not to live in Waikiki. I'd love to have a place towards the zoo. A little quieter but still walkable to everything.
@@JDPhotography7 pay special attention to buildings that have performed the plumbing retrofit project, or have a plan for it. Same with any required sprinkler installs as a result of the buildings Life Safety Evaluation. These can jump up and take a big bite out of your budget if the buildings are assessed for these projects in the future.
I'm from Oahu, but now live in Northern Virginia as so many other hawaiians, polynesians, micronesians, Tungans and Samoans do ! I've met alot of them here in Virginia. African americans make up less than 3% of Hawaii which means the low numbers don't allow a wide spread amount of Asians to have enough 'black friends' to understand the black culture(and their imagination and stereotypes are based on social media and hyped up radio and t.v), but well over 20% of the state of Virginia and over 25% where I live(including blacks from the Atlantic islands and the continent of Africa); who are highly educated, own massive amounts of businesses including Rolls Royce dealerships, McDonald's franches, real estate companies, government contracting companies, etc..etc...makes up the population of Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C and North Carolina. I went to Punahou for most of my academic life; but feel 360 degrees more comfortable here in Virginia. My mother is native hawaiian and my father was an airforce pilot for 20 years and taught other pilots for 12 years before he retired. One thing I was always leary about is that if Oahu ever got attacked with nuclear missiles(as hawaii is in a very dangerous strategic military spot) Oahu would basically be vaporized. A few years ago, I was on the beach and my phone got the emergency nuclear attack message, but I kept on barbecuing because I knew it was fake since the actual 'Sirens' NEVER went off !!! I saw alot of people crying and scrambling like cock roaches and they had NO idea that it was a basic 'emergency test'.....In any case, if Korea or China wanted to take out Oahu, with multiple missiles, it would be no place for any island resident to go for protection. Plus, taxes, due to the elevated rail, is going through the roof. Over-taxation and Over-regulation will probably kill more people before a nuclear bomb will; and all for what ? Good weather?....lol....Where I'm at here in northern virginia the weather is moderate and I have experienced being able to ride my motorcycle 11.5 months out of the year; being that snow was on the ground for no more than 2 weeks....Yes, the weather is that moderate in the 'climate neutral zone' where I live at...
Mmm. You made some good points but the last one about how Hawaii is just about good weather and implying that Virginia is comparable is utter nonsense. Virginia is mostly ugly, Hawaii is arguably the most beautiful place in all of the USA. Not just weather, but landscape, beaches, and the immense variety of natural things there. That along a more relaxed, social culture that Virginia and most of continental usa never had.
