I lived in Hudson when I was a kid, from 1954 to 1960. We moved there from the Bronx. My parents rented a large apartment over a men's clothing store, I "think" it was on Warren Street. There was a big red flashing sign right outside the livingroom window which told the time and temperature. My grandmother lived in an apartment directly across the street from the park. My cousin and I used to go to Sutty's for a REAL cherry coke. Mrs. Sutty would give my mother free rock candy every now and again. Mom walked right by the shop on her way back from work ( walked FIVE BLOCKS, one way, in high heels 😮), and Mrs. Sutty always motioned mom into the shop when she saw her. We used to walk to Edie Puckett's news stand ( was on Columbia Ave, I think) for the Sunday paper, and shop at the Grand Union. I remember the wooden floor in Edie's store. Then there was the cop who stood on the corner by the Grand Union - every week day. I still have not forgotten the awful clown called BLINKY who scared the bejeebers out of me - I was just a little girl! 😄

I remember Sutty's! I lived in Hudson the first 20 years of my life, and my folks had a mom-and-pop store on lower Warren St near Promenade Hill. Never dreamt it would be hipsterized. What a shame.

Seriously, this reminds me of a Christopher Guest film, like "Waiting for Guffman"... it can't be real. News Flash: the veg you eat in Big Bad Manhattan comes from (wait for it), upstate NY!

As long as you wear a fedora hat to a dinner party, and use words like "communification", you're in... you can join the hipster club ;-)

This reminds me of that Simpson's episode when all the hipsters move to Springfield . . . or every episode of Portlandia.

Hudson also has a bit of roaring twenties history complete with a brothel district and antique shops

All the New York City people moved to Hudson and ruined it !!! It is not the Hudson I grew up in . They made everything so expensive that only the NYC people can afford to live there. I hate what they have made Hudson to be !!!

In Upstate NY~ if you move there ~you better have a good savings to invest in your own business from the get go with a margin of 2 /3 yrs to thrive be it a Restaurant/Cafe/B&B ect~ flip of a coin risk take if your successful.. if you move also not having such~~ employment is weak Upstate, NY. Best to plan ahead with an Online job already or if local~ getting ~ jobs the income stream a much lower pay then Urban living so count on making a lot less in a Salary. New burgh NY is revitalizing no doubt but be a reminder the birth place of where Welfare was first tested out too....if you try and Gentrify you better along with bringing the lower income Families there offers of many Opportunities for growth for them ~ other wise they will torch it~ I mean such with "Equal Opportunity for All" Been there and felt the New Burgh Vibe and it's real Sketchy with many NYC transplants there. Just watch the New Burgh old video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k6CGv3iiYLg.html (Hmm seems other Documentary on the Welfare History of New Burgh deleted...interesting as to why, it was more detailed. ) If anyone decides to move from NYC to Upstate NY just respect the People whom have lived there for a long time & best to make opportunities a collective community win win if starting any type of business venture indeed.

Overpriced and overrated now. NYC people are idiots when it comes to spending money. They overpay for everything which makes locals hate them.

why so bitter? Dont want your town to flourish?
@alexandra6864
@alexandra6864 11 месяцев назад
@@RocknRollDina it’s only flourishing for the citiots. Many locals have been priced out and have had to sell and move. Mom and pop businesses have been forced to close due to increasing rents and greedy investor landlords. It’s tragic. Ignorant transplants stomped their way into Hudson and have superimposed a shallow Brooklyn lens onto what THEY want Hudson to be instead of appreciating our small city for what it is with it’s rich history. All they do is erase and make what’s left posh and overpriced. It’s become exclusive and snobby.
