For more than two years I have been living in a cabin that I have built with my own hands in the middle of the forest, on a small volcanic island belonging to the Azores archipelago (Portugal).
I have built the cabin in approximately 100 days, in an abandoned cultivation area, currently dominated by exotic tree species. In addition, I have built other small wooden structures, such as a bathroom, an improvised warehouse and a chicken coop.
All the energy I use comes from the sun, through three 450-W solar panels. All the water I need, for non-potable use, I get it through a rainwater harvesting system, channeling it from the roof into two 1000-liter tanks. I go to look for drinking water at a nearby fountain, or at a neighbor's house.
I produce some food, since I have gardens and chickens, and I have planted multiple species of fruit trees and edible plants.
In this documentary, I show you a summary of my experience building the cabin, and living alone in the woods, off the grid, for over two years. Although this project is about to finish, it is not the end! I introduce you some images of my new adventure, which will take place from 2024 in Galicia (Spain).
