We are now back with season two of living life at sea! 📺How to Prepare for Living Life Full-Time on a Cruise Ship with Super Mario ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0w32-DpBfoA.html
even with 4 kids his estimate brings u too 200k per year which isn't bad for what you are getting. if you have kids you could spend even 30% of time on cruise and significantly reduce budget. I live in hawaii. So the live in my house costs per person are similar to a cruise anyway. I own my house but my dwelling still has a lost opportunity cost. What we need is more ships like the world where members own the ships. The world budget version.
cole santos - keep in mind normally the 3rd and 4th guest is normally charged less along with being kids.. You could probably be looking at 150k or less.
@@CruisetheWorldAtoZ I'm more confused than shocked. How is that even possible? That would be literally a cruise a week, every week, for all three of those years. But, if he did a complete around the world cruise with Crystal during that time, that would have taken up at least four months of one of those years. I could see 100, but not 150. Thinking he might have stretched it a little bit, kind of like my grandpa used to do during his stories. ;)
Was on Liberty with him and chatted. He was on his laptop coursing out his next ships he would book. He books and pays like anyone else, just organizes in advance on where and when to go next. He did mention going "home every now and then to look into his business personally.
This is very interesting, unique. There are vloggers who try to interview the cruise director, maybe even the DJ. You went with a different approach with a cruiser for life. Congrats on scoring this, look forward to the rest of the interview.
@@Newzchspy Thank you for your kind words. He has his office by the pool deck, but he left his Cart in the land for when he needs to get places fast before his ship sets sail!
A few years ago a colleague of mine told me that instead of moving into an Assisted Living facility, they instead use their passive income to move from hotel to hotel periodically to live in different cities. Living on cruise ships is an even better option for an elderly person who lacks the ability to cook/clean/do laundry, definitely worth considering
I've met a few cruise ship residents (some seasonal and some full time) on various cruises. Love to hear their stories and Super Mario's is fascinating too. Thanks for this video.
My ten year old is inspired by Super Mario and now has plans to do like him...work like crazy now so that he can afford to “retire” like Super Mario (only working a few hours a day remotely) and live on cruise ships. 😊
YUP! I use to live on a ship but we didnt have the perks SM have. WE only had a certain time to eat, slept in a place with 100 others, shared bathrooms, clothes coming back from laundry were all wrinkled and the worst part you had to work 12+Hours a day on the bigger ships....yes sir! US NAVY does that to you!!
Jim Talor - LOL!!!! Reminds me of the time I ran into Redd Foxx while stationed in Wiesbaden Germany. I asked Mr. Foxx how he was enjoying Germany, he said, "a lot more than you are." We both had a good laugh about that one.
Haha, Jim! My Dad served in the US Navy too...on submarines! Talk about tight quarters and no balcony or portholes! I thank you for your service, Sir...
Cindy, with the Royal Caribbean fleet growing you never know what ship he will be on! But in part 2, we discuss his favorite ships and routes! It is premiering tonight 9:15 pm CT! Thanks for watching!
I thought the same thing but I think we would get into our normal routine after a while and be reaching for healthier options not always at the ice cream bar etc. Thanks for watching!
Anthony Banks That’s funny a lot of people say that , but I actually lose weight. Because I walked around the ship , ports so much , and did activities .
The funny thing is, when you're constantly around a lot of food day in and day out, it gets old after you've indulged in just about everything for several days. You end up eating normal and even rather find some new type of dish off the ship.
Considering Royal's drop of quality over the past 20 years, I'm surprised they still have this man. Holland America's top lady cruiser, left Holland for Crystal. He has put up with a lot over these past five years!
I hear yea John! I currently do a lot of jumping around from cruise line to cruise line and as it keeps it interesting, it isn't the best method for loyalty rewards! Part 2 he describes Royal's loyalty program that got him hooked! Haha 😆 Thanks for watching!
No wife (thus no divorce). No kids (thus no college for them). This is how he did it. Genius. Dude - you are my hero. I wonder if you are a little lonely for long-term company. I am sure you get lots and lots of short term company (wink, wink).
How is not having a wife and family genius? That is the entire point of life, making a family, leaving a legacy. Any older person I have ever met that did not have children regret not doing so. More than likely stays on the cruise ship around other people to avoid feeling lonely. Sad really.
Princess Cruise Lines for example, offers last-minute deals from $79/day per person (Carnival often $59/day). For a 15-day cruise, that works out to a base rate of $1,185. Book back-to-back cruises at that rate and you’d pay $2,370 for the month. If you can keep your fares that low on a consistent basis, you’re looking at spending less than $30,000 a year - and, of course, this includes food as well as housing and use of all of the ship ie pools, hot tubs, exercise rooms, etc.
Susan McDermott Not to mention you’d be a pinnacle (affectionately referred to as a pineapple) quickly so that no matter what Cabin you were in you would have access to any suite’s restaurant they had, the Suites and/or pinnacle lounges, priority everything, discount everything, and a concierge!
Yea I love last minute deals and it is a great way to save! But royal has a single person saving supplement, where you only pay 1.5 which helps too! Mario can't really take advantage of last minute deals with his trips being planned out years in advance with which ships he will be on. Do you take advantage of back to back? I have yet to do one!
@Dave Chappelle he gets off the ships every once in a while when the sailings don't perfectly line up, or needs to personally check on his business, so he can take care of that business then.
Alanna...That was a great video with Mario...We've known Mario for a long time...My husband, Myles and I, have been cruising for a long time...next cruise with Royal Carribean is # 90 with them...WE too might join Mario in a life cruising as we truly love sailing and Royal is the best !!! It's a wonderful way to travel, although we have traveled all over the world for over 45 years prior to our sailing with Royal.....Great videos, looking forward to many more!!
Wow Dennis! How incredible and exciting your travels sound! Can't wait to hear more if you are joining the club! Do report back! Thanks for watching! 💖⚓🚢
Hey Dennis! I'm glad to hear that you and Myles are still cruising and loving life. My husband and I sailed with you on Liberty in 2010ish. Hope to see you on a ship again sometime, stay well.
Ive been on over a 100 cruises and have had the pleasure of talking with SM many times He is a great dancer and loves the nightclub with the Cuban music.I enjoyed his humor everytime we met.
Great video! My wife I and I just returned from a Carnival Cruise on the Fantasy! We had a blast! We are doing a day-by-day vlog and just posted day number one. Thanks for your video!
Interesting...never knew people do this, or is he the only one? That's crazy. As much as I like cruising, I can't imagine spending my life on a cruise ship. Good for him though, he's doing what he loves!
I hear yea Melissa, definitely isn't a lifestyle that isn't for everyone. Honestly I don't think I could do it full-time either, maybe seasonally. There two others that do it on the major cruise lines. Thanks for watching!
Very interesting! I’ve heard of a few people doing that, but I don’t think I could. I enjoy cruising, but I’d miss my land life. Also, I’d get sick of the food after a while. Just after one week of cruising I’m tired of eating believe it or not. He seemed like he’d be an interesting person to talk to! Lucky for him he’s doing what he wants to do!
Here is my "GUESS" on how you do it... The price for some weeks would be more, and for some weeks would be less, but as a starting point of about $1000 a week (x52 wks/yr) would be around $50K a year (I'm rounding for simple math). So, therefore, if you double that, and budget for $100K a year, you could spend on average $2K a week. Using an average of $2K a week would presume that some weeks which cost only $500+/- a week would average off the weeks which cost $3K or $4K a week, etc., etc. Again, I'm just saying that the week to week pricing fluctuations (holidays, busy times, slow times, on season - off season, etc.) would flatten out to give you a weekly average. Not to mention that the cruise line might offer discounts for routine/repeat bookings, or even have annual pricing plans/options, etc. Nonetheless, if the average works out to be ~$2K a week (times ~52 weeks) is approximately $100K (rounding for simplicity). Therefore, based on my guesstimate, you would need to factor an annual cost/expense of $100K to "live" on a ship. (Of course, I'm sure you can very easily spend a LOT more if you wanted and have the ability to spend more.) Keep in mind, that if you lived full-time on a ship, what you DON'T have are the 'land-based' expenses of: rent/mortgage payments, property tax (for a home, real estate, vehicles), utilities (electric, water, natural gas, wi-fi, cable, garbage, etc.), maintenance/up keep/repairs (of a home, vehicles, etc.), furnishings, gasoline for vehicles, insurance (for a home, vehicles), groceries, cooking and house cleaning, meals (dining out, restaurants), etc., etc., etc. Add up what you spend on ALL THOSE ITEMS that were just mentioned, and consider that a "savings" in a way, that you could now apply towards the cost/expense of "living" on a ship, if it were to be ~$100K a year. Well, the next question is: So where do you get $100K a year to spend towards cruising? Well, if you have amassed a fortune or savings of $5Million (or more), and liquidate... 2% interest on $5M is $100K. So, if you can earn more than 2%, or have liquid of more than $5M (let's say $10M), then 2.5% on $10M would be $250,000 per year JUST FROM INTEREST. Using that as an example, you could potentially spend $100K per year on cruising, and still have $150K per year for other personal expenses, without having to touch the principle. Or spend LESS than the interest earned, and put the leftover back towards the principle, to earn MORE interest next year. Either way, the point is, you could adjust these numbers in several ways, and still make it feasible. SO, now the next question is... How do you amass a $5M or $10M fortune? Well, if you spent several years as a high-end, high paid, successful executive, and/or had or owned businesses, and/or had or owned property(s) or real estate (especially real estate in Miami, being potentially a high-end market depending on what/where you own), then after several years of accumulation you very well could potentially amass $5M, $10M, or more, after you liquidate. Or even another possibility, where those businesses or real estate (without liquidating them) still brought in (earned) several $100K per year. SOOOOO... the point is: If you are like him, and start off early enough, with a goal and a plan in place, then it's definitely possible. It's NOT unrealistic or IMPOSSIBLE! P.S. Other potential possibilities which I didn't mention (without going into larger detail) would be that you could have a smaller fortune than the examples I used, but where you would 'tap into' the principle, and spend it over a projected period of time (10, 20, 30 years). For example, the same way you would spend down an annuity (or lottery pymts.), or a reverse mortgage. $100K per year times 20 years would be $2M (not factoring interest), but you would have nothing left at the end of 20 years, which I believe he mentions that he has no spouse or children, meaning not having the need to leave anything for anyone. As a former executive, having a home in a high-end market like Miami, bought 10, 20, 30 years ago for much, much less, could potentially be worth $2M (or more) today. So, you sell/liquidate and have $2M, where you spend $100K year for 20 years. These are all just examples, and certainly the numbers can all be adjusted or manipulated to however best suits the situation.
Shawn these are some great insight. He did mentioned He spends about 65k per year, and as you climb up in the status (which He is on top) he pays 1.5x instead of double occupancy to get this rate. He continues to run his small business from the ship (again being top he gets the internet for free). Thank you for watching!
O g, I underestimated that it would be of such great interest to everyone. My approach was to cover his fascinating lifestyle. But due to such high demand we will being covering cost and other logistics in our follow up interview! So make sure to check for that! Thanks for watching
Omg I know! That’s all I was thinking of the entire time. He may say that by the time you factor in insurance, electricity, gas, water, food, car notes, car, etc. it is the same amount of money. I can’t imagine that would be true but that’s the kind of thing ppl always say. Also, he may already own a house for if he ever decides to get off the boat one day.
I think it is a sad story, no family, no wife, kids, just him working and going home alone, traveling for a living. I used to travel on planes but soon as I got home to wife and kids made my day. Good for him and what he wants but sounds very lonely and sad to me.
Well Derrick sounds like you have a good wife and enjoy the family life. There are people who feel weighed down by extra people. I respect what this gentleman is doing because so many people get married who deep down do not want to get married or have a family. I wished more people were honest with themselves instead of getting married so they won't experience loneliness
Its a lifestyle that he chose for himself. At any point He is able to to pick up his suitcases and change if He gets bored! Thank you both for watching!
Great Allanna ! Super Mario living for 20 years on cruise wow !! since 1997 unbelievable Royal Caribbean native. Super Mario really planned well. This cruise comes to Port Klang Malaysia if anyone wants to travel in Kuala Lumpur can contact me. ill be pleased to show my city Kuala Lumpur :-)
It is also my dream to work on the cruise ship. I had a chance before, but I have responsibilities. My sister was sick at the time, and in the cruise ship, you cannot go home if something happens to your family. You can, but you will lose your job. I had a good job before, and I chose to stay in my old job so I can always go home if something happens to my sister. I wished I was born without responsibilities so I can do whatever I want. He is so lucky to be born without responsibilities. The cruise I was going to work is high class. I think the name is Crystal. If it cost $1,000 in Royal Carribean, in that ship it will cost you $5,000.
Moral of the story-stay in school kids! Even if you start your own business. An education can make a big difference in how much you earn. My son will be going to GT. Average STARTING salary for their graduates is $70,000. Thank you for this video. Enjoyable.
You can get a far better budget, by getting a job full time on a cruise ship. Because your conditions on a cruise ship are excellent, wether working on them or not. Like you might have to share a cabin with a work colleague, but you still would be able to share the same benefits. Even as a passenger, why may ask, is because when that you have too take leave, well then you can stay on board. Or go to another cruise ship and enjoy your holidays if that you have any by working in them. Like your wages might not be much working in them, but you can enjoy just as much comfort and the same kinds of foods. As a passenger wether living on them full time or not. But there is one thing that I agree with with Mario, and that is that you have to sacrifice a hell of a lot. Family, friends, pets as you are living a different lifestyle of living, as you must think very hard for what that you are leaving behind.
Alanna Zingano so he should there Alanna, as you can basically say that he has served 22 years in a seagoing capacity. I myself had served 12 years but in a different capacity, not much difference except that he was on a cruise ship. And I myself had served on cargo ships as a merchant seaman, and I had enjoyed my career as well. Went too many places, had travelled the world as much as what that Mario has done, but in a much different capacity that is all. But cruising either way, does open your mind in many different ways, as we all can share experiences from different backgrounds from seafaring. You can go onto you tube if you like and punch in merchant ships at sea or something along those lines, and they can give you tours of what life is like on the open water and the conditions on what kind of shipping companies that you sail with. And yes like Mario, you do get your very own cabin, and just like Mario's cabin, a first class cabin, but just have a look on you tube, because some seafarers do film them whilst that there at sea. As this may help you on your specific quests for adventure.
Royal Caribbean will be our retirement home for wifey and I. We've been on 12 cruises already and with God's will we will continue. We have been in Bahamas, Cuba, Cozumel, the Caribbean Islands, Spain, Italy, France, Monaco and Montecarlo, Greece etc. Three more cruises scheduled for this year also. We want to make it to at least Diamond level by the time I retire in 7 years.
Oh my you have really visited some amazing places! I'm sure you will be at Diamond in no time! Truly sounds like a dream! What are some other destinations that you haven't been to yet that you are looking to go to? Thank you for watching!
@@CruisetheWorldAtoZ You are welcome. For the year 2021 we are looking at another RC cruise departing from Coppenhagen, Denmark heading to some of the Nordick countries, as well as St. Petersburg, Russia. Next year our plan is to go to Madrid, Malaga and Sevilla in Spain. Not as part of a cruise, but flying there. My wife and I are just regular working people who plan 18-24 months in advance for these trips. Wifey takes $40.00 from each check and pay things as time goes by. By the time trip day comes we have everything paid off and minim usage of credit card is done.
Warning about Royal Caribbean's app which you can load onto your Iphone. During a recent cruise on on RC, I downloaded their app on my Iphone, I used it a couple of times to check my bills, schedules, etc. Once I returned home and wanted to delete their app, I noticed that their app automatically gave Royal Caribbean access to my Iphone's photos. This really alarms me. It's such an invasion of privacy and I don't recall giving Royal Caribbean permission to activate this feature on my Iphone. So if/when you download their app, be sure to deactivate this features to insure that some idiot or scammers aren't using your photos to their advantage
You can "live" on a cruise ship, OR buy your own " suite " on " The World " private cruise ship which travels the world. has its own board of owners who decide where to go next. NOT CHEAP ! but it really is a nice ship. I saw it docked before in Tampa.
The best things people in their twenties can do is plan for their forties, it will come before you know it...Nice to be able to retire by then and live well...
Although you don’t live for others, others can add color to an otherwise less colorful life. I need to spend too much time with my wonderful three grand daughters and twin grand sons. I’m with our eight month old right now. She just pulled herself up and took her first step for Grammy. I’m loving not being on a ship today.
Oh of course I would. But because of my moms health, I really don’t think I could do more than three weeks at a time. Sorry it took so long to get back with you. I do come from a very large family though. I love spending time with them. We usually travel with some of my brothers and their wives.
Met him on the Vision of the Seas in December 2018. Had to laugh when he said Royal is the best cruise line. How does he really know when the last 20 years had been with Royal. He hasn’t tried any others in awhile. 🤔
@Edi2003 happens all the time. Heart attacks, etc . Not everyone needs care and if you do you've probably had a great time living on the ship and then go where you need to go.
Doctors appts., dental appts., eye exams, and lab work and xrays? What happens if a follow-up appt is required to complete the job? Do you really want second and third world medical people or facilities treating you and not have one doctor who knows you and your history? What happens if you need a specialist or lets say laser eye surgery? Don't forget travel health insurance for every trip in case you need to be hospitalized during your cruise or at sea and you need evacuation.
Miranda you have a lot of great concerns! Mario gets off every once in a blue moon to handle these things. But make sure to check back for our follow up interview where we cover these great questions!

Thyri you couldn't be more right! Part two which premieres tonight at 9:15 pm CT, we get into some of his incredibly unique stories! Thanks for watching!
Yeah and if you don't spring for a room with a window it's depressing AF. I took a cruise for the first time in April of 2019 and I didn't know that you had to pay extra to get a room with a window but much like yourself I was done after a week. Only so much ice cream and beef a fellow can eat
Great video Alanna. How does Mario handle hurricane season and or rough seas that’s got to be scary and tough? Mario has to be the original early retiree- 45 or younger that is the big rage on RU-vid right now! Listening to your interview with Mario it sounds like he still works and earns an income from his business so that takes the bite out of his some of his expenses. I would also assume medical issues would require an insurance policy for his needs and what about prescriptions etc? Does he have a wife or companion that he travels with as it would get lonely = but that’s a personal preference. Thanks just subscribed.
Too much of anything is a bad thing. Eventually doing the same thing all the time is a bore. No matter how wonderful you think it will be going in. This reminds me of the woman who spent 3 years in bed. She wasn't sick or anything, she was just so rich she didn't have to get out of bed.
Interesting perspective, makes total sense though. I think it depends on your personality too though. How soon are you to get bored and tire of something. You have to really love it to stick with it long term! Thanks for watching and the thought!
There's another video about a lady that lives on a cruise ship; it stated that the cost was around $100,000 for the year. As much as I love cruising, I wouldn't want to do it year round even if I could afford it. I've been on 20 cruises; most of which have been 14-17 days. When I retire, I'd like to take a really long cruise then RV across the country.
And remember that you are still seeing the same places as a passenger as what that you are. Like sure you might have to work on them, but hey you must way up the benefits as well. As sacrificing can get you many pleasures as well.
Alanna Zingano yes you can but you also can enjoy other avenues as well. As you also can go on any given ship especially if that you have full time work. Working in with the company that you are employed by. Where as Mario still has to pay his way, as he still does not live on the ship Scott free. As everyone still has to a there way some how or another. And yes but either way, you can still enjoy the pleasures of cruising if need be. As it takes a very open mind to be able to fully comprehend any form of sea going career. Wether that you work on them or not, as nothing is for free.
I love cruising but living 24/7 on a cruise ship isn’t a goal in life for me. After cruising for 5 days I’m ready for dry land and the big city. Is this guy married? Nah he can’t be! May god bless him. I love your vlogs!
Met him on Harmony on a transatlantic crossing i don't think there's anyone thats taken a few cruises with rcl that hasn't met him lol, pretty down to earth and chilled fella.
You are probably right Sale! Very approachable for so many to say hi! 🚢 How did you like your transatlantic? I am looking into doing one in the near future!
@@CruisetheWorldAtoZ l liked it very much it was from Barcelona to Ft Lauderdale when Harmony wasn't that old and it repositioned to do the Caribbean itineraries. I've only been on RCL i think 5 times, Voyager, Vision, Harmony & Allure so make that 4 lol, my favorite was on Vision from Dubai through the Suez canal and finishing in Venice oh and Voyager around New Zealand from Sydney I'm an Aussie, there all good.
this is a man that clearly worked bloody hard for his life. Even normal people can inspire others with their story of hard work and determination. Seeing stuff like this really makes it easier to put in a few more hours at work or go the extra mile.
how does Mario survive financially and health care . I am 75 cancer survivior and need regular scans to see if i am ok . If he gets incapacitated how does he care for the issue . Does he have a trust to protect him as well as Power Of attorney and heath care proxy
Alanna, how is Super Mario doing these days? I have heard of others who cherished cruising so much that they lived on cruiselines. But, I wonder how are they doing today?
Janet, happy to report that Mario is back to sea! It was rough for his to be away from his passion of cruising but he is back to full time living now that the ships are operating.
