When I visited NYC my Jewish friends got into a very serious argument over where you could get the best bagels. To someone not native to NYC I thought they were all awesome compared to what you can get where I live. Keep up the great videos!

The thing to do at Krispy Kreme is to look for when the "HOT" sign is lit and get regular glazed donuts fresh & hot! So yummy! haha Looks like you had a good day!

Krispy Kreme is amazing. I usually keep it simple though. Glazed cream filled and glazed lemon filled. Perfection.

I think bagels are Jewish/Polish, actually Ah, yes, Krispy Kreme, or as I like to call it, "Krispy Krack" ( find them terribly addictive) Never had Five Guys' burgers, but if you ever make it out Pennsylvania way, or y'all ever get get one or both in Edinburgh, may I implore you to try White Castle and/or Royal Burger.

You need to come to the Southern states of the U.S. (Virginia down to Georgia) and experience the food culture there! 😀🍴

Years ago I nearly lost one of my first jobs because I brought the boss Duncan Donuts instead of Krispy Kreme! Weellll....I WAS young.....didn't know any better!

Hot fresh Krispy Kreme donuts are like crack coated meth. We had one directly across the road from my college campus. Frankly it's a miracle I don't weigh a million pounds. And Five Guys is definitely among the best of the fast food burger places.

I've always thought of rain as peaceful instead of grim. Only time rain is bad is when it's already cold outside and you have to be out in it so it makes the cold weather even colder.

Floridian here. Fast food is a once or twice a year indulgence, but I want to do this 24-hour tour! Pizza Bagel, followed by Hot Krispy Kreme, and ending with a 5 Guys burger?! You've hit the mother load my friend. I'm at least going to 5 Guys tomorrow.

The reason Shake Shack and Five Guys are more expensive is that they're considered "fast casual" and use better ingredients than your typical fast food places.

And I'm from Texas and love Whataburger, but I'd get a 5 Guys over Whataburger any day. And it's a whole lot more expensive than McD's here in America as well. Best fries (chips) anywhere.

If you ever get to Colorado, you must try Smashburger. Created in Denver. I was in Scotland a few years ago and tried haggis. I absolutely love it!

Funny. This video reminds me of the funny way that cameras have come so far that this vlog is miles ahead of professional camera work 10 years ago. That or Shaun is just amazing with filming and editing.

In 1979 I was working in Dundee. I happened across a hamburger chain called 'Wimpy's', I assume it was a play on the character from the old Popeye cartoons. I thought it would be a safe bet to get a burger. I was wrong. Wimpy's was amazingly bad, even the ketchup was the wrong color. Wimpy's explained why Hamburgers were not a popular thing in Scotland at the time. Later I got to try a working mans typical lunch called a Bridie (sp) a Baked hand pie filled with a vegetable. I had an Onion Bridie. It explained why Bridies are not available anywhere else. :) I had a very good time working in Scotland, but then I was on expense account so why not.

Five Guys is great, they are originally from Virginia and they quickly spread all over. Also Krispy Kreme is originally from North Carolina and I love it when the, “Hot and Now” sign goes up in the window; that means they just fried a batch and they are warm and fresh. Boy Howdy that place fills up with customers faster than a fireman filling a bathtub

Shaun, next time, visit Boston. We have some of the best seafood in the country. Especially things like lobster (we pronounce it lobstah), fried clams, mussels, etc. You'd probably like Kelly's Roast Beef, great roast beef sandwiches. All kinds of burger places, breakfast places where you can get waffles, pancakes, etc. We're also big coffee drinkers here. Dunkin Donuts is probably the most popular and prevalent place for coffee. There's practically a 'dunks' on every corner. Their donuts suck, but their coffee is good.

Here in Merced, California (Central Valley) there is a chain called Yum Yum Donuts. Their buttermilk bars are my all time favorite. There were Krispy Kreme places here for awhile, but they failed because their products just weren’t as good. IMHO. Love your Vlogs Shaun!

Actually bagels are a Yiddish food originating in Poland. New York delis are known for their boiled then baked bagels.

When I was in Glasgow a couple of years ago we fell in love with a shop called Bread Meats Bread. Very yummy food.

Whole Foods donuts; homemade burgers I think are the best, because you can make them how you want them.

You have a lot more American fast food restaurants near you than I do to me and I'm right here in the armpit of the US. My donuts come from smaller local bakeries. Today, I found my favorite: plain donut ring with white icing, topped with Fruity Pebbles. I'm not ashamed to say I bought two of them. I was only able to manage one, but I'll get to the other one tomorrow. Simply celestial.

I’d love to see a video of you eating a day of Scottish produce. However you could work it out. Different stuff is always great!

Enjoyed the video. I love everything bagels for breakfast with bacon, egg, and cheese with the bagel buttered and toasted. I could make these every day for breakfast. We have Krispy Kreme bakeries here and they are best to stop at when the sign out front says hot. I have only ever had the regular glazed raised donuts. I think they are the equivalent of eating baby angels. They are heavenly. Five Guys is good but we have a little restaurant in our town of about 3,000 that has the best hamburgers. They are huge, reasonably priced, and soooo good. The fries are delicious too! Happy eating!

Can you please do a video on the differences between Fish n' Chips. I grew up in Scotland and adore Fish n' Chips, but America doesn't really have it where it's no way close to the Scottish version. One major difference I've found since being here is malt vinegar.

I think because you live there you can’t see the forest from the trees in terms of the food. I’m a flight attendant from Canada and the one thing I and most of my colleagues look forward to is the food. Most of us don’t bring any food from home on those layovers because we genuinely look forward to eating in Scotland.

Shaun, you must see Asheville, North Carolina whenever you go to the state. I think it matches your personality. Good arts and music (lots of arts crafters), great food, beautiful in the Appalachians, very friendly, young, small city, and lots of out of door activities. Ocracoke (island in the outer banks), Wilmington, Charlotte, and Asheville are all highlights of the state. Charlotte is a huge SE hub for American Airlines so there are plenty of carriers that have 1 stop flights between cities. It is truly a gem.

It was definitely 'dreich' the whole time when I visited Edinburgh. I wished I had known the word then! But it made the beautiful architecture all the more moody. I think Five Guys is only second to Smashburger. It's a newer chain from Colorado, and it has some great southwestern options. Add it to your future burger tour!

Come visit the Pacific Northwest....and the Oregon Coast where I'm from....you'll feel right at home. Our weather is almost exactly the same.....but our scenery is NOT to be missed. Best donut was from an owner/baker of a small donut shop in a tiny little latrine hole of a town. Best thing about that horrid place was this absolute gem of a donut shop. Best raised glazed donut I have ever consumed. Sadly, that shop doesn't exist anymore because he moved to a different state. Hopefully he's still making donuts somewhere that are amazingly delicious.

Love it when you walk around Edinburgh. I still miss it after emigrating to Australia in 1964. Unfortunately have only been back 3 times:(

I myself have never been much of a bagel fan. Bagels in the US used to be much smaller than they are nowadays. Most of the ones you get here these days are the size of your face while about 25-30 years ago they averaged only 3.5 inches in diameter. You could easily slice one and fit it in your standard toaster if you wanted it toasted. Now you have to have a toaster oven or a big bagel toaster. What once was a standard bagel is now a mini bagel. I've never had Five Guys yet but I'm eager to try. I avoid fast food places and have for the last 10 years if I can help it.

That weather looks like Texas weather in the winter especially if the temperature is between 0 and just under 10 degrees Centigrade ( 32°-45°F). Thank God you went somewhere other than Mickey D's for dinner, even if it was more expensive. You should always be able to enjoy your hamburger and not have it taste like the cardboard box it's served in. Haggis can actually be quite good if you have someone with a good recipe. Thank God and all of his wee angels that our bad boy, Sean Malloy, from Glasgow uses his mother's and grandmother's recipe when he makes our haggis for the Scots of the Texas Hill Country annual Burns Night dinner. I have had bad haggis before and that is enough to put you off of that particular dish for the rest of your life! People also need to try bangers and mash, bridies, Scotch eggs and shepherd's pie if they want good traditional Scottish food. I am not sure but bangers and mash might actually be an English dish that got floated into Scottish cuisine and pubs Across America such as The Lion & Rose. I prefer Tim Horton's to KK and DD. But all three are typically beaten by local bakeries. There's a place near University of Wisconsin Madison called Greenbush Bakery that I will never forget.

Krispy Kreme donuts definitely the best you can get anywhere. Unfortunately they're not as many places as Dunkin Donuts in most States. The closest one to where I live in Connecticut is almost the opposite side of the state so it takes me two and a half hours if I want to get Krispy Kremes unless I feel like driving into New York City which can sometimes take even longer. The best thing about Krispy Kremes though is you can pick up three or four dozen of them and they don't go stale for a couple of weeks like Dunkin Donuts do in one day. They also have the best variety of flavors. My personal favorite is lemon-filled I'll always pick up one dozen of them and then an assortment of other ones

You get exactly what you want at Five Guys. No salt either. Scottish battered & deep fried Cod is the best. Deep fried Oreos too. Yum !

Your expression of driech cracked me. Come to Oregon in the summer so you can avoid the winter driech. Otherwise, Montana is sunny about 95% but have extreme weathers all year long. I hope you like thunderstorms & lightnings.

When my boyfriend and I visited Edinburgh we happened to look up the nearest Taco Bell. We were devastated to find there were none in Scotland. The rest of the food made up for it, though, we can't wait to go back :D
