Loving the new colour of the room. Dunelm has lots of wall lights online. Re the radiator definitely don’t paint it, better to get a plain radiator cover that you could colour match and then style on top of making that area of the room have some styling and purpose. Shutters for the front are a good idea and investment, like you said it’s always going to be there and shutters will be a staple piece that is classic in style x

Really lovely colour you’ve chosen! I recently took a fire place out of my living room, even though it was one of the features that attracted us to the house in the first place! The room works so much better now it’s gone. Where are the chairs from in your bay window?

Lovely colour! It makes the room look prettier. Perhaps get one of those bottomless console tables with higher feet and long enough to fit the width of the radiator by the dining table or maybe build one?! I'd go for painting the radiators semi-gloss or metal finish paint. It'd make the room look more elevated. Is there a coffee table similar to the little side table with the light marble top next to the sofa or something similar with a deep toned wood base and light stone top and perhaps in an oval or round shape?!

Can you build a sideboard around/Encompassing the rad? Diyhuntress on YT did that & it looks great. Attached to the wall & allows the air flow. I like the idea of relocating the fireplace to allow a better layout. Or fix the gas component & mount your TV above the fireplace.

I can’t tell you how much I loved this video! Firstly, the paint colour is perfect! I love it! Secondly hearing all your plans and ideas makes me excited for the videos that I know will be coming. You are right in saying you don’t need to rush to get it done. The best and most successful makeovers have usually taken months and months to plan and execute. I usually find if I go out to find certain pieces they are never as loved afterwards as pieces I have ‘stumbled’ across. Re the radiator, I agree with you about painted radiators, I’ve never been a fan of painting them. Could you customise or make a piece of furniture to cover it that would also be functional? Maybe a future project? Saw you brass light fittings on Instagram, what a shame they weren’t usable but loved that vibe. Keep doing what you’re doing, without doubt my favourite RU-vidr. Oh one last thing, I’m so there for the colour of the cushions you were suggesting - gorgeous warm mix. 🙂🙂 xx

When I bought my present home it had a fireplace with a gas fire on my only unobstructed wall. I personally don't like a fireplace on a flat wall ( without a fire breast), so my son and I removed it and capped off the gas supply ( he is a registered gas fitter). I now had a lovely wall to do with as I pleased and no TV stuck in the corner of the room. So I would definitely remove the fireplace as it would give you so many options.

It's so beautiful Shade. Such a transformation. Totally with you on the Dark Wood, it goes better with the scheme. When you say board up the fireplace, do you mean get rid of the mantle? I was thinking about Christmas 😂 where are the stockings going to hang ? Lol and garland eeeeeeeee A long term goal would be to move that radiator in favour or a tall slim one at the end of the wall to free the whole wall up. Short term I'm not sure I'd paint it. Coffee table just for the short term you could paint legs Black and glue on a Slice of wood on top then stain it to your darker preference. Long term .. wooden coffee table for sure 😍😍

I'd get a gas wood-burning stove, given that you've got mains gas already. So much less hassle than wood, sooo much cheaper to run than electric, and virtually indistinguishable from an actual wood burner because of the real flames. You can get them 100% efficient and the heat they throw out is crazy. Love the new wall colour 💖 and sis got a steady hand!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Paint your radiators same as the wall colour they will then sort of fade into the background I am sire you could make a console table type shelf to go over the centre one and make it longer than the radiator is. I have just made over my fireplace ,covering it with mdf and painted it same as walls( F&B Bone )and added a pair of wooden corbels I covered the marble with matt black vinyl ,it looks so much better then it did before 😆

Very nice colour. Love it. I'm glad you mentioned you liked the deep coloured wood because both sets of doors look a bit orange and would look great in that dark stain. On the more practical level now, there is a reason why radiators are white - they radiate the most heat when white. Something to consider as the energy costs are high. ❤😉

I used rustoleum heat resistant paint absolutely stunning quality paint the radiator or cap it off and remove it , I too have a 80s home in a cul de sac and I’ve leant towards jewelled tones rich art deco vintage Victorian style and I absolutely love it do what feels right and definitely go with the corner fire place log burner, find out if you can re seal your coffee table and why don’t you build a new wooden top that just sits on top of your coffee table like an upside down tray and then if you hate having a wood coffee table you can go back to the marble easily all your ideas sound fantastic I’m here for the long haul

Yes my gurl is back...colour is bad, what about a fake chimney breast /media wall then insert the tv into the wall and put one of those square flat glass fires underneath? I love 🪵 think it adds warmth to a room, my dining room table, mirror, side unit is all wood...bit matchy matchy some may say (thought it myself at times) but because of the type of wood (sheesham/Indian rosewood) it looks nice. Looking forward to more reno/dec vlogs.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the colour. Very warm and cosy perfect for the space and also a great choice for the Georgian theme. With the scale of the room the wall lights can be far bigger than the ones you have. Depending on your media unit; whether that’s staying or the tv will go above the fireplace, will also need to be taken into consideration for the scale of lights you buy. If your planning on moving the radiators then I wouldn’t. The more paint layers on a radiator will reduce the heat outlet so just be mindful of this. Can always buy a radiator cover or have a built in around this radiator to have the top half as a Welsh dresser just a little thinner in depth. Bottom half to have storage each side encompassing the rad cover. It’s such a large wall so you could get away with a custom built in. Window treatment wise the bay window would suit shutters which will make it super lux and go with the Georgian theme. To soften the space you can then add floor to ceiling light weight curtains purely for aesthetics only and have your coving hide the tracks. The back windows I would wait for now till you replace them. Fireplace is not original to the house so could completely rip out and start again. Personally I would add an alcove; so build out the fireplace area to add some character. As you’re going with a Georgian theme have you considered a limestone fireplace? Just be careful with the modern fireplace (although I love them) it could be a difficult mix with the pure Georgian theme you’re going for. Georgian theme interiors always involved rich toned woods so walnut and Jacobean oak. Don’t forget that beige and grey work perfectly together. I’d keep the marble table as it adds another texture which will be muted with a rich rug. Introducing pops of colour like amber and Emerald are Devine Georgian colours. I think keeping the grey with black piping would also be a nice mix with some light beige cushions or throws. One thing to also consider, if you are set on buying the corner fireplace then I’d keep the black theme running throughout. (It keeps that modern edge going) Black doors, black lamp. Or if you want the traditional Georgian feel painting the doors a light beige will be stunning. X

Loved the video. The colour is perfect. I'd personally paint the radiator, or you're more than capable of building something around the radiator with storage or shelves. Also, with the fireplace, you said you wanted to do a Georgian room. Why not build a chimney breast with cupboards and shelving above. You are so good at building units, etc. Obviously, doing this costs money and time, but there's no rush. Hope that helps with your ideas you have. 🩷

Hi Shade. I know this is an older video now but so glad I found it as I asked you your wall colour a while back and couldn’t find your reply. Can I ask, is your room north facing? We have a NF living room/dining room which is L shaped with a dark feature colour at either end. Can’t decide whether to go all one colour as you have or just keep as feature walls. Are features walls old hat now do you think? I have that fear of starting and can’t decide what to do (our house is an early 80’s build). Worried it will be too dark if I go all one colour like this one. Thanks
@ShadeShannon
@ShadeShannon Год назад
Hey Sharon! So sorry I didn’t get back yet. Im not entirely sure if ours I technically north facing (actually think it’s west). The sun sets in the main window (where the Tv is) in the evenings. I love all the walls painted one colour personally I think it pulls the room together. And dark tones are in, moody and cosy vibes. Also, it’s just paint if you really want to you can change it! Buy a small tester sample of the colour you like and paint a little bit on each wall in the room, near the windows and in the darkest spots. It helps you figure if you’re on the right track. Personally I think dark walls are very in right now but of course it depends on your furniture etc. if you have lighter tones it’ll help brighten, colourful would set off lovely against the mushroom and dark would fit right in! Sorry if that wasn’t much help it’s hard to advise when I can’t see it but I’d say listen to your gut xx
@sharonmc5192
@sharonmc5192 Год назад
Hey @@ShadeShannon - Thank you for your speedy response! You did actually reply to me previously but can I remember which video it was in... nooo! Haha. That's a good idea re the tester pots. Prob with our living room is that we get all the sun at the front from about midday til sunset but we only have one slim tall window to let that light in (imagine thats the top of the letter L). The majority of our windows are all at the back but thats NE facing. In Summer it's okay, but in Winter, it's very dark. I've got lamps mirrors etc, but like you say, I think I just need to try it out and see! Loving your design choices. Wish I could be braver instead of opting for a safe choice every time! :) x

Matt paint on a radiator isn’t good, however, if you do, make sure it’s heat resistant as it’ll fume or go shiny eventually with the heat (yep! experience). I’d also paint those mahogany-coloured doors, as that’s a late 70s/early 80s giveaway (so much mahogany-coloured “wood” finishes back then) - or stain them darker to match the pieces you like. Can’t you move the radiator if you don’t like it where it is? You’ll add skills too! And yes shutters - they’d give you a bit of privacy during the day too - but if curtains as well, I’d bite the bullet and fit into the bay as you won’t then visually lose the space when you pull the curtains. You could bend the track round the wall to the room side, so the curtains completely clear the windows and maximise the light when pulled. Your marble coffee table top can be re-polished/finished by a marble/glass supplier (the joy of real material rather than something looking like it) Love your sofas they look soooo comfy - I’d just pull that one a good foot from the radiator as the heat will damage all the joints otherwise and it’ll collapse in parts (again, speaking from experience ...... it over-dries all the wood and glue, so the joints shrink and separate - obvious if you think about it - I felt such a fool and it was a very expensive mistake 🙄). Also, your radiator will work better and it’ll be more cost-efficient. Love how it turned out - worth the work Roll on part 2

A few ideas : maybe have some fluted drawers or a single big box made of wooden slats made under the marble top for the coffee table? Earlier I would have said cane but not now. You can keep decor or cushions or nothing in it. I’ll try and send a DM on Instagram for this. Secondly the radiator can get a lodge on top? Dark wood. Small and thin .. will balance the weight of too much white in that space … yet not overwhelm. Thirdly the corner fire stove looks really good. Smartens up the house like Rob was saying … it looks more this century now. You can pick out the floral elements on the mantel for now .. don’t use any paint etc. just white. And the back and centre of the fireplace can be painted black though. Let the stone be for now as it will go anyway later I feel.

Use Zinsser BIN as an undercoat and then paint with the same wall paint but do very thin coats and sand with 240 in between coats. Also, turn it off, don’t paint a warm radiator, and let the paint cure for at least a week before you turn it back on. It’ll look perfect once it’s done x
