Artist Malene Barnett bought her home in Bed-Stuy years ago, and did a complete gut renovation to create a colorful, light-infused environment where she lives and works. Title patterns courtesy of Voutsa
Candice Brown-Brathwaite Black, booked and busy! So beautifully and succinctly expressed. I totally agree with your desire to see more black people living their best lives in their homes
I’m not the jealous type, but DAMN she is living the dream as an artist; to fully fund your home with your talent and live in a home reflective of your design style 👏🏼
I have been staring at those blue doors for years and wanting to know what was inside. The change to the facade of the house alone was pretty epic! I am so so happy to finally see the beautiful interior and owner!! My neighborhood rocks!
Yes!!! I went the cream/beige route. Inspired by the sands of the Caribbean and the Behr color coconut twist for my Caribbean roots, I brought in black frames and decor, and added pops of color using artwork, floral arrangements, plants, and print and bold color pillows, and texture using linen, woven basket, etc.. I like her house. It would have been nice to know the sources of her artwork since I would like to start investing in some.
Had the absolute pleasure of staying in her parlor level Airbnb before moving to NYC in December 2017 and it was just as beautiful, her attention to bright colors and small details was so fresh!
@@willrobinson5097 if i purchase a home that is most likely in the milllion dollar range i’m gonna kick you out.. what makes u think it’s okay for them to live in her house?
I miss houses with a different color in every room. You have brought the Caribbean to your home. Beautiful! It reminds me of life back in the West Indies.
As a polynesian woman I absolutely LOVE your style. So vibrant and rich with soul. I was getting sick of the whole "white on white" trend that everybody seems to be doing at the moment, this is so re-freshing!
@@akualikewater Right?! The funny thing is my father used the same color in our house. He has bright yellows, blues, and reds throughout. Same with my Grandma's house! Her house in the video instantly made me feel at home! 💙
Being a black student in interior design most of my peers are white , definitely due to my location. I'm excited to get in the field and be surrounded by people who are more diverse. I love her initiative .
Colours are almost frowned upon in the current trends. I love all the colour and warmth in that beautiful home. The artwork is incredible too. Love the stories behind them!
~"As a creative person...we have vision."👈🤗 Spoken like a true artist. I love it.😄 Very true. I can find the beauty and/or potential in anything. Great job. Stunning home. The painting on the wall behind her is stunning!
Remarkable woman, remarkable house, remarkable art. A lesson for all those people, interior designers, decorators with the trendy works and the lack of soul. Thumbs up!!!!!
Absolutely stunning. That bathroom!!! The hand-painted art, her handmade tile designs!! Everything was exceptional. I also love how she explained the women in her artwork. Many times women of African descent are painted and described with such sorrow, but she flipped it! I wish the tour was longer!
What a beautiful and inspiring home. The style, art work, sculptures and creativity took my breath away. Absolutely brilliant, this is what a home should look like, not the dull beige homes that seem to be the norm. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us
This home is jaw dropping. It's curated but not cold, full of light and bright, but not bland. It feels attainable as its not an 18 be mega mansion. I loooooove all the color and decor. It just feels... Happy.
I LOVE THIS!! I love seeing black women living in their truth and authenticity. She made that house a home and did it beautifully! I aspire to have my future home reflect my heritage and personality. She's an inspiration :)
My husband and I are in the process of fully gutting the 1st level of our home. We both want vibrant colors on the walls. This is beautiful. Thank you sista ❤❤. Beautiful done 🤚🤚.
Greetings from Las Vegas! I am totally in love with her bathroom, from features to mirrors. Just super! She has a peculiar way of decorating but it all works out. There are many different colors in her decor and it comes together nicely cause she uses pastel colors.By the way, I'm Caribbean too. I'm Cuban American.
I am an Australian woman living in an old Queenslander in the wet tropics. Getting ready to paint walls, ooohhh yummmmy, I've found my colour pallet, thanking you. Wonderful paintings too.
One of the most elegant and beautifully done houses in the series, a lot of the episodes have overdone campy decor but she’s really placed everything with intent absolutely beautiful
Jahnes Love. This is sii lovely!!! So proud of myCaribbean people in Brooklyn for building it down and for not giving up on their roots. This gorgeous renovated house is a space we dreamed of dwelling in as children and this beautiful and talented sistah has made it real! I Love those paintings of the market women! She should fi a children's story book! And, if the J train goes to that street or block than I think that I was a squatter there invited by a Guyanese Rastas bredren sometime in December 2011 when I first came back to NYC. There was a woman squatter upstasirs and the rasta was downstairs. The staircase and entrance are very familiar. Blessed Love.
I wanted to see more of Malene's home because it's so beautiful. This is a small snippet of a unique aesthetic design. I love color especially on walls but since I'm a renter, the rules are different. Would love to know more about her tiles because they are fantastic. Malene is truly talented and I applaud her.
I clicked just to get a better glimpse of that beautiful painting in the thumbnail. I can’t stop staring at the lovely colors. The blues, the greens. I’m mesmerized.
Love seeing walls which are all painted in different colors. Each of my rooms has a different color - could never understand folks who keep just beige or white walls.
So encouraging and inspiring. This Sister knows Who She is and Why She's here to do. Love her Energy and Style. Thank you New York Magazine for sharing this video story.
