A junior in high school, Michael Chichioco tells an inspiring and deeply emotional story about living with Tourette's syndrome .
Michael Chichioco is a junior at Saint Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco, California. Living with Tourette’s Syndrome, Michael has had to persevere through many obstacles presented by his condition, and has developed a deep passion for sharing his story and for inspiring others who might struggle in similar ways. A statement from Michael: “Although I've been faced with many obstacles so far, I've always found a way to venture past these obstacles. Every time I share my story to anyone, my confidence level rises and I slowly start to accept who I am no matter what differences I have!”
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

@likepurringmeowmeows7219 I've had it since i was 5yrs. What really helped me was that my family didn't treat me different and acted like they ignored my tics. They treated me like any another person without Ts. I taught myself coding, paintinf, drawing, music, singing, jewerly making, guitar, piano, and lots of other things. People with Ts excel in lots of art forms even though we struggle with tics. If you have questions please ask! I'm an open book and will answer personal questions if it will help your child living with Ts. But remember every person with Tourette have unique tics just Like a finger print. Any extreme emotion from wither side can cause us to tic more and stuff like caffeine, sugar, lack of sleep. Basically we need to learn to stay in the middle of our emotional states.

He's a good speaker and I can relate to him. I've heard all of the "you have Tourette's." "Just control it." Everyone thinks it's just the idiot online who screams obscenities but it's much more than that.

I don't have Tourette's, nor have I ever met someone with the condition. But I've spent many hours reading the Tourette's Hero blog, and I will always point out to people who conflate the condition with coprolalia that it is not the same, and how unfair the perpetuation of the stereotype is - especially to the 90% of Touretters who don't swear. I hope it means something to someone :)

I was diagnosed with TS a few weeks ago but I've had tic for years, Idk if you've ever heard of the rothman center but it's really good and they specialize in things like TS. I found out I have a severe, A-typical disorder. I really need help with this bc I can't do anything anymore XD
