I think that a lot of people are brainwashed, including a lot of the mainstreamers. I mean, imagine a beef between Lil Wayne and Canibus, or against Mos Def or Immortal Technique, or Tech Nine or even MF DOOM. Lil Wayne would get destroyed and it wouldn't even be close. the curse of the battle rapper. canibus was quite possibly the best lyricist to ever get a taste of the mainstream. but that just couldn't translate into an actual album. the guy murdered freestyles over awesome beats but struggled when it came to an actual full length album of content and good production. wyclef's production was garbage which didn't help. always wonder what could have been with canibus if he had the right production. oh yeah, he destroyed LL Cool J and LL made sure NYC radio blacklisted him.

LL only won the war due to it being a popularity contest. Can-I-Bus wasn't bad but it doesn't compare to how hard Bis went in on him in 2nd Round KO. Canibus asked that man to borrow his mic. How else would you record without one? It seems like flattery to me as he is directly referring to LL as a keeper of the mic. Canibus on the track seemed like a mutual desire for both as it was LL album and he asked bus to be there and canibus obviously wanted to be there as he changed his verse to keep it that way(he did have a choice, even tho LL had leverage), which also displays the respect he had for him. Lyrically, LL wasn't as potent as Canibus. 2nd Round Knock Out was harder than any of LL's diss tracks, real talk. Not dissing, cause L one of the reasons I got into Hiphop at like 5 or 6 yrs old 86- '87. But Canibus came for the jugular like Nas did on Ether. 'Bus was more on that Wu, Nas vibe at the time (in his own way), so I was rockin more with his style, lyricism & sound, than LL's. The part that they left out was WHY LL was pissed that Canibus wanted to "borrow" the mic on his arm. When Canibus first met LL, he said he wanted a tattoo just like LL's. LL kept telling him that he should get his own original tattoo but Canibus insisted that he wanted one just like LL's. So when Canibus said that line in the song, LL was like "man, this kid is gettin on my nerves." That was corny on Canibus' part. He seemed like he was pretty groundbreaking, not one to byte anyone's style.
Yeah Canibus won a lyrical "on the street" level But LL Cool J won the battle overall within the industry cuz he made all the right moves, with his iconic status, he more so used the battle more as a marketing strategy Canibus didn't make any moves at all with this battle, he just made an amazing diss record as a response and then nothing after that, his career plateaued while LL kept his moving

The Ripper strike back is still one of the Greatest HH Diss tracks of all times, even though people barley talking about that track at all, cause 2nd round Knockout Went in on LL Cool J in different levels. That track is a beast, but since LL Cool J got a Better career, and Canibus was just coming up in the game, He won the War. And Canibus Career wasn't the same after that.
