Until the previous year, the capabilities and efficacy of open source large language models were primarily inferior to those of their closed counterparts. Currently, open source is the driving force behind the transition to a new era.
Meta is introducing upgraded variants of the 8B and 70B models as part of this most recent release. These are multilingual and possess a significantly extended context length of 128K, state-of-the-art tool use, and overall stronger reasoning capabilities. This allows our most recent models to accommodate sophisticated use cases, including multilingual conversational agents, coding assistants, and long-form text summarization.
