On this hike I aim to complete the 110 miles of the Llyn Peninsula Costal Path, which is part of the Wales Coast Path. The whole adventure was completed in five days with a total ascent of circa 9,000 feet.

In this video I start in Porthmadog on day one and head initially towards Criccieth via Black Rock Sands. This beach is extensive and very much empty until you approach the western end where you will find many van and cars, and of course many ice cream vans. Onwards we pass through Criccieth passing the Lifeboat station and the castle.
We are then taken inland alongside the Avon Dwyfor before passing onto the busy A497 road for 3.5 kilometres. Eventually, we are led onto a very long beach which takes us to Pwllheli Marina. Next it is the turn of the golf club to witness our walk and then we take to the dunes to find our wild camping spot for the night and the finish of day one.
Day two is overcast but this does not deter an early start as we head towards Llanbedrog beach where we find the multi-coloured beach huts. From here we head up towards Las Glyn-Y-Weddw where we spot the various sculptures in the grounds of the hall. We pass the open air theatre on our way up the hill to view the sculptured man.
We eventually end on a Beach where we walk in to the very centre of Abersock admiring the houses and boats. From here we are on the road to Mackroes and walk around the headland. I discuss the lack of quality control on hiking apps and to emphasis the need to always carry a physical map. Next we are on the headland where we admire the wild horses before finding a place to wild camp over looking the sea. Day two ends and we have completed over forty miles.
Video Llyn Peninsular #2 follows and will be published on Tuesday 25th June 2024 @16:00 GMT.

Cracking good cheese, Gromit, er, I mean, a corker of a video Nigel. Great scenery, great variety of terrain, not too many humans, and variable weather. What more could one want? To be there in person methinks.

Excellent stuff Nigel, the Llyn Peninsula is stunning, however, from my experience drinking water can be an issue. Enjoy! 👍😁

Thanks and yep water was a bit of a challenge but made sure I always set off with 3 litres, bit weighty but sure and safe. Cheers

I had the same issue with the Hiiker App with other trails as well. In the end I switched over to the OS maps app.

I think I might give that a try when my subscription runs out, thanks for the thought.

So far, I have only used the Hiiker app for recording hikes, and it sucks. After an update it will work for a week or two, then it can't seem to keep track of where I am at any given time. I did an experiment last week, walking the exact same 5km circular track 3 times. I interacted with the app in a different way on each circuit, and the end result was all over the map, and no 2 circuits mapped the same. The only time it recorded accurately was the circuit where I kept the app open and refreshed the map every minute or two.

@rykskelton2066 thanks for the info, agree it sucks and drains your battery too much.

How are you tracking your mileage Nigel? Is it on your watch? If so, what do you use? Cheers 👍😁

Yes, it is. Use a Garmin Fenix 6 solar. Had about 2 years no problems.

@@AmblingTrails thank you Nigel, I have been trying to make my mind up about which watch to get, hearing of your experience helps a lot. By the way, have a look at the Snowdonia Slate Trail. I think you would find it interesting, and it would bring you almost past my door at Llyn Crafnant. 👍😁

@paulhuggan-cammack2928 it’s on my radar, but so many trails to do. But if a cuppa is on offer I might make it 😉
