It is very logical to watch your videos. I've been a fan of Nightwish for almost 20 years and Tuomas' lyrics have always been a little cryptic especially nowadays. You are the first one who really analyze Tuomas' lyrics and that is awesome! By the way, I think many of your Finnish viewers belong to the "Nightwish army" like they call themselves.

Bon jour Guylain. The last sentece "arrive alive" I think has the meaning that we all should live our lives well and be happy with it when our time comes to return to the earth. As for the rest, paraphrasing, "we all come from a single grain" which I think refers to mother earth. "water the fields surrender to the earth" I would interpret as we should take well care of our planet earth as we will eventually become one with it again at the end of our journey. I look forward to seeing your interpretation tomorrow. Be well and stay safe.

Thank you for your kind words about Finns. I come back when you analyze the lyrics more. But I must say that I like this Celtic Hymn a lot. Troy's voice is perfect to this kind of Folksy material. Great harmonies even acappella in the beginning. Very energetic jamming section and most of all Jethro Tull vibe (I'm a long time JT fan). See you tomorrow.

I agree that this song has a JT vibe -- they are good at writing layered songs as well, where on the surface it seems like one thing, but there is a deep undercurrent. I love Jethro Tull! In high school I was in a cover band and we did a lot of JT covers (I played the flute parts but I could never caper like Ian Anderson!)

Your analysis of these songs are fabulous and you are able to find meanings most can’t see. Thank you for your teaching! I really enjoy your videos. As somebody who is barely speaking english, the meaning of the song didnt came to me in an intellectual way, i just listened to it and watched my emotions. To me it was a ode to life in one way, but always with a bittersweet feeling which I couldnt catch or explain. I always remembered the words of 'the greatest show on earth' : we were here, and didn't knew why. Until I read a comment which quoted Tuomas' thoughts about this song. It proves to me again that music can speak to your subconciousness in a way beyond language. this is one of my favourite songs on this Album. And I deeply enjoyed your thoughts and analyzing about this song (and the other ones). I learned a lot from this.

Yet another Finn saying "Hello!" Although I've posted my interpretation of the Harvest's lyrics on many reaction channels already, I won't spoil your moments of inspiration while making sense of the lyrics. However, I'll be checking back to hear your analysis of the lyrics. P.S. A nerve in Marco's vocal chords was damaged in 1996 accidentally by the surgeon operating on them. As a result he had to work really hard to be able to sing again & lost his clean falsetto, or maybe that is gradually coming back. P.S.S. I like your style in these reaction videos.

For me this is an inspiring song, even cheerful. For me the message is three-folded: First and foremost (the most important point) it talks about the meaning of one's life - it is that "child" and it is ("they") the next generation; Second, it talks about raising that generation, that child - raising them, feeding them ("water the field"), inspiring them ("offer light to the coming day"), passing on the knowledge and strength onto them ("there's that or carousal of dare"); Third it talks about death (not in an ominous way) and acceptance of it ("surrender to the earth"), being at peace with it ("hearty and tame") as part of the life cycle. I think he's trying to say that "the meaning of life is giving life". He's telling us to be good role models for the next generation.

Lovely reaction again, looking forward to your analysis of the lyrics. As a Finn I can tell you, as you already figured, Finnish traditional music does not have Celtic influences. Tuomas wrote this song for specifically for Troy to sing, that must be why he chose this style. Troy helped with the arrangement, Tuomas' first version sounded too American to him.

You have the wonderful ability to point out exactly the crucial puzzle piece that I was missing to parcel the meaning of these songs. The moment you pointed out that this song is largely about death as well, it all suddenly made sense. It's a joy to watch these videos!
@GuylainPrince
@GuylainPrince 4 года назад
Yup ! The song is about personal death and a more collective horizon, dark of course, but that we choose not to let us stop living. It is truly choosing the side of life, full life, in the face of death and bad situations. Much more complex than it seems at first sight.

Very nice reaction and funny to read the subtitles on a lyrics video 😅. The cadence of the song is derived from the way Shakespeare wrote his verses. His poem read by Tuomas' wife Johanna Kurkela is from Romeo & Juliette. You are right the lyrics are very powerful, I love how Tuomas wrote it from the perspective of Shoemaker on the moon, watching the earth rise. But no matter how beautiful it all sounds, I can tell you it does not compare to hearing this live. I have seen this performed a couple of times and even on the hottest day of the year - goosebumps 🤘🏽

I must say, I have only yesterday stumbled upon this channel, and I am VERY MUCH enjoying your reactions to the songs, as well as your enthusiastic analysis of the music, particularly regarding nightwish, as you are well aware, there is much to unpack! Very insightful analyses, and I am personally grateful for your contributions to the "Nightwish Army". Looking at your initial reaction to the first lines of the song with the "unsung" menace that looms in an otherwise pleasant tune; I feel like this song is centered around death. Specifically regarding "a child's face aglow before the scythe", obviously the scythe is not only an old-fashioned implement of farming, but it is also used in the depiction of death itself as an entity, the Grim Reaper. When I heard the lines "water the field, surrender to the earth", I don't necessarily feel that Tuomas is suggesting that we find a watering pail and water our gardens. I think that he may refer to this unknown conflict, where people may "water the field" with their blood, and in passing away, their spirit takes leave of their body, effectively "surrendering" it to the earth. It also stands to reason that Death, as a concept, as an idea, has beauty beyond poetry (if you are not familiar with Neil Gaiman's depiction of Death in his famous graphic novels, the Sandman series, this would be a good read) but instead, we view Death not as an impartial vessel that delivers us from one existence to the next, but rather a cold and unfeeling misery. Similarly, much like the deepest depths of the ocean, Death is impenetrable for the living, and as death and the dead grow, like the sea, it seems all the more impossible of a task to overcome. I think "they'll find the pretty words, and tame flocks to herd" speaks to the traditions of religious leaders guiding mourners in funerary processions, helping their spiritual "flock" to traverse the tremulous waters of grief. Though, I do struggle with "there's that, or a carousal of dare." Perhaps it speaks to how people can be inspired to take action in response to a great loss? Unclear. Like you said at 12:07, "my harvest will come, tiny valorous straw, among the millions facing towards the sun" makes me feel like this is a commentary about death, how we relate with it, and the impact that it has on society. Perhaps this is a witty criticism of decades' worth of international conflict, for which there is always proper justification to travel abroad, to kill or to be killed. (But perhaps as an American, my understanding is skewed due to recent decades' policy?) If so, then it stands to reason that this song is fascinating in an entirely different way than I originally understood, perhaps this is simultaneously a funeral dirge, mourning and lamenting the dead, while emulating, almost mocking, the way that nations will "inspire" men and women to join the military, "do it to inspire your children!"; and the very repetitive nature of the song, more than is typical for Nightwish, is a direct connection to how government can use its' power to repeatedly, quietly, use culture to inspire people to risk their own lives for a conflict they are not invested in. Perhaps I am TOTALLY off-base with my reading, I haven't seen your analysis yet, but I wanted to share my understanding as I watched your video, almost like a dialogue. If I may humbly ask, what are your thoughts on my reading?
@GuylainPrince
@GuylainPrince 4 года назад
Well, I think the your are ready for my [ANALYSE] of Pan. the 10 first minutes, I come back on the song 'Harvest'. One of the things I said was : there is a cultural distance between me, as Canadian, and European fans. And this is not a bad thing. I am bound to read from the 'land I have my feet on'. You did the same as an American; I react to the words as a Canadian. You will like new insights for Harvest in the 10 first minutes of the song of the PAN' [ANALYSE] vid. It will be out this Wednesday. Glad you enjoy the series and the channel! Anytime !

I was so waiting for you to work on "Harvest". A few things that I have tripped over: "quaternary code" is a base four numerical system which can be used when analyzing DNA (four base pairs). Evolution and DNA has brought us a rose plus its death and decay. I think "Arrive Alive" shares the same sentiment as: "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!" ― Hunter S. Thompson The passage containing "misery" and "tame flocks to herd" is a reference to tribalism and the ability of charismatic, populist political/religious leaders to use their people for their own ends. Instead of seeing the beauty around them, their followers live a life of misery, suffocating in a miasma of political/religious bile. This sentiment will be expressed far more vigorously in "Tribal", a song that is a raging diatribe against tribalism. it especially takes aim at religious tribalism which has been responsible for countless deaths over the centuries. Just to pick one of many, think of the probable millions of deaths resulting from the assassination of Ali and the resulting Shia-Sunni schism. We hear echos of Arabic melodies in "Tribal", but Nightwish is aiming wide with "Tribal" and not just at Islam. You may find "Tribal" to be a rough ride. Eagerly waiting for the analysis . . .

This would be my favorite of the entire album. I am a sucker for Celtic influence in music, the feeling that the whole of existence can somehow be fit into the music. You're right, it's written on several levels, so it gives the first impression of nonsense. I wonder if Tuomas' age has left its mark on this new end-of-road perspective. Because the same thing happened to me after I turned 50. I look forward to your analysis tomorrow. Thanks.

Encore merci :)

**This is not an attempt at an interpretation, rather it’s my personal experience of the journey that Human :: Nature is. Especially in that it feels like a natural and seamless continuation of Endless Forms Most Beautiful.** I’ve felt that 'they' are those still trapped by Noise. 'Arrive alive' to me is to be released from Noise and awakened to find yourself alive to Music. 'Water the Fields, surrender to the Earth', for me, inspires an image of the cyclical nature of organic life. We (all of the organic life on earth) nourish or 'water the fields', which is as essential as rain, oxygen, & sunlight (for the most part). The earth, all life, needs us to let go of the vessel, leaving it behind as nourishment providing for those who follow to be born... and I imagine when we surrender the vessel, we shoot out into the cosmos to join 'Shoemaker'. This impression could, obviously, be completely off course from what Tuomas meant. Then again, all art, while usually having a specific or at least general meaning to the artist, leaves space for the subjective experience of the listener. I absolutely love that in his lyrics, Tuomas includes us. He writes 'we' so frequently that it would be difficult for me to not feel part of the oneness of humanity, but also A unique part of a complete organism, all parts aware of each other to the level of the smallest, most obscure microbe. Having a conscious awareness of life and an intentionally living it with open eyes and ears, is an infinitely expansive experience... and for those who are having the awake experience of the vastness, along with others, with childlike wonder (we still laugh at butterflies), we are able to let go of fear, sadness, loneliness, & a sense of hopeless desolation and together, with eyes & ears wide open, can arrive alive & surrender the vessel happily. Having enjoyed a life truly *lived*, we are free to leave that behind and join in a sort of dance as we celebrate the next step of our collective experience. We journey together into the æther with Shoemaker as our beacon... I also feel that How’s the Heart reminds us of one powerful way we can help others out of their aloneness & hopelessness (burning the rope, dulling the blade, & joining the dance around the warmth of the fire.) We can’t force others to take the offered hand but be can certainly invite & encourage.

"Not an attempt to interpret", but bringing back the song in the broader perspective of the album is a way to interpret (called the canonical interpretation) : in means, within the context of the presentation (here a full album). It makes perfect sense to me and seems respectful of the writer AND of the song/album. You are perfectly right : what the lyricist means is not always what he wrote. And his work - especially cryptic as are Tuomas' words - opens up a LOT of space for different interpretations. To live life to its fullness, facing own death and/or the one of the world is the best way to answer. Peace to you, from Canada! And thanks for your generous message!

I know this is not the analysis, but I can't help but comment: They are the humans, as in the Human|Nature of the title. "They" make the flock from the animals, otherwise theres the "carousal of a dare" which is the risk of the hunt. Domestication, lordship over nature (water the fields) and still being subject to it (surrender to the earth) because we cannot control it. The Quarternary code (genetics) gave us the ability to breed pretty flowers (exert some control), yet they will still inevitably wilt because natures course cannot be controlled. Its all through the song, an amazing piece. And the celtic style is native to Troy, he collaborated heavily on this one.

The five headstones represent the band, minus the person (presumably Troy) through whose eyes we survey the scene. With this album, Tuomas threw out the old Nightwish rulebook and put the cat among the pigeons - for which he should be roundly congratulated. The band's future is unknowable, but hints at a very interesting journey for those of us willing to surrender the safe and familiar for the potentially beautiful unknown.

In the Eddas, Beowulf, or similar epic sagas from europe men who had died "would water the ground with their blood" and death was a fate that men/warriors had to struggle/ fight against thus those who died surrendered to death and where interred in the earth and surrendered to the grave's/earth's embrace; the scythe (6:48) imagery is often associated with the Grim Reaper; one single grain could be a reference to Adam and Eve thus "the harvest of a 100 fields is likely war; this is a dark song cloaked in light. The final line though:"surrender to the earth, arrive alive" accept your death/ that you will die so that you can live or reach the end of your life having lived rather than existing as a corpse long before you actually die.

Part 1 of 2 This is *really* long, so I split it into 2 comments. I haven't done this type of textual analysis for a long time, but thought it might be fun. Feel free to ignore, delete, etc. I think identifying pronouns can be helpful with this type of analysis (although I'm still slightly confused on all of the unnamed antecedents in this song). The pronouns used throughout this piece: "my," "I," "our" "we" are each used once: "my harvest" "I will pause before a man" "something unsung our way comes" "So we could see the beautiful die" two "they" and one "their" all contained in one verse: "They have beauty beyond all poetry" [deleted verse] "The deeper their sea, the less remains" "They'll find the pretty words" [deleted verse] It is interesting to note that from the song 'Procession' is the following verse: "We have been here, here a while At the end of Pi, as along came harvest We will remember all the suffering" In the song 'Procession' "we" seems to be humanity long after the earth is gone (or at least earth as we now know it), so in this song is there any connection to the "we" in that song? ##Questions and Thoughts (but no answers)## /My harvest will come/ *harvest* - the killing and gathering of crops for use. *my* - the speaker's harvest; but does it mean the speaker will be harvested or the speaker's crop will be harvested (is it being used as a noun, verb, or both)? So is "my" the valorous straw? death? the earth? something/someone else? *will come* - Which seems to make the most sense: the valorous straw's harvest will come; death's harvest will come; the earth's harvest will come? Death harvests all--plants and animals. (the video showed headstones, so...) If the earth, then back to the earlier question: will the earth be harvested or will the earth be doing the harvesting? /A tiny valorous straw/ *a* - just one; seems to be focused on the individual level *valorous* - brave in the face of danger *straw* - the detritus left after a harvest; this is interesting because if straw represents humans/humanity it would be referring to the corpse (maybe spirit, but knowing Tuomas, I doubt that) or the "dead earth" or harvested earth (see 'Procession'). How can straw be brave or the "my" from above if it is already harvested? As a stalk of grain was it valorous in the face of harvest, so after the harvest it can still be referred to as valorous? But straw itself can be harvested, but is then only used for non-edible things: bedding for animals and humans, for building such as in wattle, thatch, or bricks, etc. /Among the millions/ Although singled out as "a" it is among many more. If there was only one, it would be considered "picking" and not "harvesting". There are millions of dead on the earth. /Facing to the sun/ The stalks of straw poke straight up, facing the sun. Before the harvest, and the way that it is known it is time to harvest, is that the heads of grain bend down, no longer upright and perky. The dead are buried face up. /I will pause before a man/ *I* - the same "I" as the "my" to begin with? *pause* - wait; for what reasoning is the waiting? Death will pause before a man-will not yet harvest that man? Pause for death to think about man, or pause to give man time? *a man* - just one? Who is this "man" - this is the first (but not only) transparent introduction of humans in this song ("child" appears later). /Whose path has just begun/ *path* - life? a goal in life *just begun* setting out on one's life path; a child (possibly, but...); young humanity evolutionaryly speaking? /Something unsung our way comes/ [sung by three voices] The three voices cause the first major shift in the song musically, possibly representing a shift in perspective/point of view/narrator *something* - death? the foreshadowing from the previous line: "I will pause before a man" sets up the foreshadowing of this line? *our* - three voices; is the narrator now man/humanity? *unsung* - not yet known? not acknowledged? not worthy of being sung about? The following songs from the album have similar foreshadowings: From 'Music' - "Music/It is coming, coming, coming your way" From 'Noise' - "Beyond the human horizon/Something terrifying sleeps" From 'Pan' - "Something wicked their way came" (I'm not sure about the other songs, but worth a look.) /The quaternary code/ DNA gives form to all living things. /Gave mankind a rose/ *mankind* - who is the narrator now? Death, humans, third person omniscient? (see "we" below) *a rose* - represents beauty and love (but also has thorns) DNA gives form to beautiful things, and DNA gave life to humans who (as far as we know) are the only species with the ability to label things as "beautiful". /So we could see the beautiful die/ *we* - humans? The line before speaks of "mankind", if "we" are humans, why wasn't "mankind" written as "us" instead? If "we" is death or the earth, "we" should be "they". Is this the future mankind "we" found in 'Procession'? An omniscient third person narrator would encompass any entity willing to see. The beautiful can be seen to die because that gives meaning to life? /The strange peace of storm/ /Hovers over crops/ *storm* - usually thought of negatively, but they can have beautiful formations to look at, like a rose, and more importantly to humans and harvesters they bring life giving water; so maybe this dichotomy is "strange": beauty and water bring peace *hovers* - can be a bit ominous /And a child's face aglow before the scythe/ *a child* - why a child and not an adult? Children are often typified as a pure and innocent. A child is also at the beginning of their path. *aglow* - alive, vibrant, beautiful, with light *before* - right in front of, or possibly the long term, like "You have your whole life before you." *scythe* - an implement for harvesting both plant crops and human lives (like the grim reaper: the personification of death). A "child" will eventually die whether still as a child or after that child has grown)
@vstarflies
@vstarflies 4 года назад
Part 2 of 2 [Chorus - This is sung by the harmony of three voices which possibly represented mankind earlier in the song.] /Join the harvest of hundred fields/ *join* - this is an invitation, a call to action. An invitation requires an inviter and an invitee: who is each party? Humankind, death, the earth, other? Join as a harvester or harvestee? Or both? *harvest* - provides sustenance and life to the harvester and yet death to the harvested--circle of life? generation to generation? *hundred fields* - Sufi path? England's division into Hundreds? Simply representative of a large number? Something I'm missing? I am only familiar with the geopolitical/civil division of land in England into Hundreds. The video, music, and Troy singing lends credence to this idea. So maybe the idea of harvesting the crops within the hundred. Or representing a much larger field: earth, humanity's field. /Hearty and tame/ *hearty and tame*- who/what is hearty and tame? The crops of the harvest? The hundred fields? The harvester? Something/one else? *hearty* - gives sustenance; join in the bounty, the nourishment *tame* - crops are things that have been tamed and shows that a group is "civilized" /All going back to one single grain/ *all* - All what? All humans? All life (plant and animal)? *going back* - because they have died, like the phrase "returning to the earth"? Or is this some sort of tracing a path, like maybe all life traces its way back to one single grain; things that get harvested go back to a single grain? *grain* - The first verse spoke of "a tiny valorous straw" - that one straw was the end result of "one single grain" - again, the circle of life? grain/straw: life/death; before/after; beginning/ending Speaking of DNA, and grains, and death, I am reminded of of what Richard Dawkins said, as quoted in 'The Greatest Show on Earth': "The potential people who could have been here in my place, but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Sahara...we know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA, so massively exceeds the set of actual people...how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?" /Offer light to the coming day/ *offer* - who/what offers? Another call to action. One must first possess light to offer it. *light* - sunlight is needed for the grain to grow, to create crops for the harvest; hope for tomorrow? For a brighter future? *coming day* - the coming day brings its own light, and yet this says to offer light to the coming day. Paradoxical? /Inspire a child/ *inspire* - more call to action. Is this like "light" above, so sort of hope? Teaching? *child* - earlier, children are shown as an example of beauty but an acknowledgment that they will die; now, as part of the invitation to "join", either someone is supposed to inspire a child; or, all of the things listed inspire children (or humanity in general). /Water the field, surrender to the earth/ *water* - water (the noun) brings life, yet here it is used as a verb, another call to action for the audience to do something. Does water represent H2O or something else? Water with choices, works, etc.? *field* - that in which the crop is planted, the "home" of that which will be harvested, the hundred field. *surrender* - give in/give up. Synonym for death *to the earth* - give in to the earth, or when death comes, return to the earth. This line seems to indicate that the "hundred fields" is indeed earth. Possibly a nod to Genesis 3:19: "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." (KJV) (although I believe Tuomas is a humanist) The chorus invited the audience/humanity to do the following: - join the harvest - offer light - inspire a child - water the field - surrender to the earth [end chorus] [To tell the truth, the last verse is a bit confusing; possibly this is a subset of humanity: the not-so-good people (whatever I mean by that). The chorus may be a pivot point to turn from the more positive aspects of humanity to the more negative. The chorus a call to goodness and the last verse a warning?] /They have beauty beyond all poetry/ *they* - all humanity or just a certain group? The ones with the "deeper seas" (see below)? *beauty* - given rise to and recognized because of, DNA: roses, storms, children, etc. *beyond all* - not just a little, but so much potential. *poetry* - an indicator not just of humanity, but rather of "civilized" or learned humanity /But choose a silent misery/ *but* - although they have at their fingertips so much beauty to see, find, create... *choose* - the chorus invited the audience (humanity) to action. "Choose" is an action, and despite the beauty surrounding them "they" choose as their action misery--they don't have it thrust on them, or stumble into it, they choose it. *silent* - unspoken. Poetry was originally meant to be spoken. (why silent?) Misery is set up as the opposite of beauty. Very interesting. Having been given the calls to action in the chorus it would seem that those things are the things that are seen as beauty, as being a beautiful human. (See 'How's the Heart' for how one can be beautiful.) /The deeper their sea, the less remains/ *their* - shows possession *sea* - deep, wide, vast--an overabundance of water. *their sea" - a wealth/reservoir of... beauty? Capability? Ability? Anything? *the less remains* - ouch! Those who have the most share the least? Those with the most leave little for the rest? /They'll find the pretty words/ *they* - humanity, or those with the deeper seas? The "they" who have "a beauty beyond all poetry"? *'ll* - will at a future time? So what time is being talked about above? humans in their primitive, pre-intellectual stage? After they demonstrate their not niceness by hoarding stuff? "pretty words" - above it says they "have beauty beyond poetry" and poetry takes words; this phrasing gives a negative connotation, maybe this group of people uses "pretty words" to make excuses, or get ahead? /And tame flocks to herd/ *tame flocks* - verb or adjective? Are "they" finding tame flocks or are "they taming the flocks? Finding pretty words and taming flocks intimates a more civil society, especially taken with the next line of carousal *herd* - and yet "herd" can have a negative connotation, like "following the herd" or a euphemism for being a sheep. Do those with "pretty words" have the ability to tame those who are part of the herd? Flocks and herds refers to animals, and "harvest" usually refers to plant crops (not always as there is plenty of writing about harvesting animals). /There's that, or a carousal of dare/ *there's that, or* - there are some options. But what are the options to choose from? The negative things in this verse? The calls to join in the chorus? Civilized life as represented by the ability to find and write about beauty and the ability to tame flocks? *carousal* - partying *dare* - to be bold; to meet defiantly *carousal of dare* - this is a very odd phrase and I have no idea what Tuomas was thinking If humans don't find "pretty words" and the ability to farm--if they don't become civilized--all that's left is chaos and disorder? /Arrive alive/ *arrive* - arrivals need someones and somewheres, so who and where? Is it a plea? A statement? Arrive at the harvest? *alive* - physically? emotionally? spiritually? (although I believe Tuomas is a humanist) At your harvest (death), you should arrive "alive". To be alive you should heed the call to participate in the actions of the chorus.

Dear S E , I did not look at your comment YET. I began to read and then I saw that you quoted 'Procession'. I don't see or listen to the song BEFORE every Reaction video I do. And I don't listen or read other comments/analysis/reaction. It is very hard, since I am a big fan of Nightwish, but I kept my word until now. Si I promised you : I will come back after I am done with the others songs of the album ! If you see that I forgot you, just come and post a small reminder. I will see it ! Thank you taking so much time. Looking forward to read your point of view.

w We are all born and we all die, what will you do during your numbered years of life? Water the fields, tend to the earth. Offer knowledge and inspire those, whos path has just begun? Do we live in fear of dying or simply, live life? We all die, do you live life in a way that will allow the cycle and even the earth itself to continue live and, in a positive way?

In my opinion this song is about accepting death as a part of life. Our path to death should be used by inspiring others and respecting and looking after the pale blue marble we live on.

I talk about a trad music Festival in Drummondville called : Mondial des cultures. I know the one who was taking care of all the wind instruments, from all over the world. One thing I can tell you : traditional instruments a very reactive to the atmosphere. Dry of humid and the instrument is out of tune, or plays differently. All of this just to tell you one thing : if Troy plays on tune like this live, he is a virtuoso.

@@GuylainPrince When you listen to Troy talking about the pipes - he often talks about their fickle nature - that they are not an easy instrument - In one concert it was so humid they would not play so he had to quickly replace them with another wind instrument...You know of course he is English, and has been involved with the traditional folk music scene

There is a technical word for this unstable result of old and organic instrument. Have a close look in concert situations : you will hear Emppu and/or Tuomas playing the same notes as Troy; this is just to make sure that the unstable instrument does not give a general feel of being off tune.

I will pause before a man whose path has just begun. Someting unsung our way comes. Tout juste ensuite, the quartenary code gave mankind a rose so we could see the beautiful die. The strange peace of storm hovers over crops and a child's face aglow before the scythe.

Reviens-moi quand tu l'auras écoutée, d'accord ?

''I hear you through the symphonic voices of nature The purity I could never doubt They tell me to lie on the grass and observe my savior The one crucified to the chirping of birds.''
