I'm enjoying this series on the LM386 opamps. Got some myself and am experimenting to see what sounds best. Definitely going to try this out. One thing I'd love to see in your future videos if possible is if you could put a circuit diagram alongside your footage. Would be really helpful for showing exactly what you're putting together so people like me could replicate your experiments more easily.

Those diodes are wired in coring arrangement and not a clipping arrangement, so you're actually cutting out the middle of the waveform with those diodes.

I neeed there to be a forum or Reddit on stuff like this. I got a Marshall MG50DFX and I need to modify it. The overdrive channel the gain comes on way to fast, but then never gets high-gain enough. And for the clean channel there is a “gain level” but it’s pretty much a volume knob, at 10 it’s just louder it, it doesn’t break up at all! I am going to mess with the resistors and clipping diodes on the overdrive channel but I’m not sure what to do with the clean channel. I am interested it making this a usable amp, I’ve though about adding a tube preamp and a EQ and building a box for it for it to be a little head.
@zurowetz
@zurowetz 6 месяцев назад
Be careful messing around in a amp if you don't know what you're doing sounds like maybe you need a new pot for the overdrive gain remember that if you change the diodes in the clipping part ( if the amp uses diodes for cipping) the volume of the amp will change and so turn down the volume and slowly bring it back up so you don't blow the speaker/ your ear 🙂
@extremesecrecy

Hey! You forgot to add resistors!!! I actually like the bridge resistors better than the normal diodes. I have not done it with weird resistors like germanium....would be cool if you show us! Also, do you have a diagram for your setup? Where was the black cable going to from the amp?

@zurowetz
@zurowetz Год назад
Great that you made the box😀👍sorry to hear that you are having problems with the lm386 sounds like you are using too much power it's 5-12 volts and dc so make sure you are using the right power also it can be the impedance have you tried with a battery? If you think that's the wiring check the original video and compare with it good luck and keep me updated 🙂

@@ltcm5052 im not sure I understand the question but there needs to be one ground to dc jack and on ground to in and one to out jack all the grounds on the lm 386 are the same just so you know if you have a enclosure for metal it can be used as ground then you don't need to ground both jacks only one or like i have it in the video were the ground gose from on jack to another ond then to the board 🙂

why are you not clipping to ground thats they way its normally done all tho i know it can be done how you have it hooked up too its just not common. you would need a dc blocking cap before the diodes to stop DC getting into the opamp

It was just a experiment I never thought anyone would watch it but I was hoping to change the clipping and find something new and fun but now I'm thinking maybe I should have just put a cap on the lm386 to change it there 😅

@scramblesthedeathdealer
@scramblesthedeathdealer 8 месяцев назад
@zurowetz Sorry, I'm new to modding/building pedals, that was a dumb question. I guess what I meant is, can the little blue pcb unit be added into a pre-existing circuit easily? Maybe I'll just start with a basic DS-1 mod, I emailed Small Bear Electronics a few days ago to see if they had any mods to suggest for a beginner with their parts.
@zurowetz
@zurowetz 8 месяцев назад
@@scramblesthedeathdealer no its not stupid I just wasn't sure what you were really asking 😊 if you have the old ds-1 you could try to see if you can find a way to add it but I guess I would ask why because if you just want to make the ds-1 louder you only need to remove the diodes and nothing more so what is it that you want to get out of modding your ds-1?
