I dont know if you'll read this, but thank you so much for this video. I remember when i was in 4th grade my teacher (who was running the talent show) was doing Party Rock Anthem, and he personally invited and wanted me and my little brother to wear the robot head. I looked at many videos, but nun of them were very helpful at the time, mostly because it was either in another language or was a timelaps of them building without directions or instructions. Then I stumbled upon your video and you saved me two days before the Talent Show. So i followed your instructions and i cant thank you enough. Awesome video. This is by far the most thorough instructions and demonstration on "how to build a shufflebot head" as well as great design execution. I added the video link to my site ZombieShuffleBot with a collection of info about the shufflebot.
@AlexxJansson yeah that would work. The cardboard absorbs the paint so anything you can do to seal it or absorb it with another paint helps. White wood paints do both, but anything is better than nothing.
@jmt731 it's won't look "bad"... it just looks better if you prime the box to seal it from absorbing alot of the gold paint and making it look a little more dull. But really... it won't look bad. It's just a small detail that makes it look even better.
it's a roll of webbing. you use it to make a chin strap like you would have on a helmet. Cut two pieces, attach one end of each to the helmet, get the length right, then put the clips on the two remaining ends. Clip it, cinch it, shuffle.
Hey irsuperman the shuffle bot said on fb that his head is 12x12x18. So this isnt completely right. But I made one with ur dimensions because I think it looks better than the original. It's kickass now! Thx man!
@MrLuffy9131 ur welcome! glad you found lights. There is a stack at the 99cent store down the road. I've been surprised how hard it's been for people to find them. For the LEDs: The reason I made the cylinders the way I did was so the lights could pop in/out, since it's cardboard and plastic and it gives a little. You just have to cut the holes they sit in correctly. Then you reach up through the holes in the helmet and you can pull them out, turn them on/off etc. Glue has held great so far!
Alright I know we're 8 years in the future from the making of this video so there are not many of these lights any more. I made a dope shuffle bot head following this incredible video back in the day and I need to replace one of the lights. Is there any way you still have any in stock for sale?

@adamvalo12 Great Question! I took screen shots from the music videos and online photos of the box head. I measured the width of my friends shoulders to give me a reference point and then I put the images into AutoCAD and scaled the images to the correct reference size (my friends shoulders being the baseline). From there I could get the dimensions of everything. Of course if the ACTUAL shufflebot has bigger or smaller shoulders than my friend - there will be some error in size.
It's called AutoCad. It's made by Autodesk. It's a design/engineering/drafting tool. It's super old - I bought it in 2000, but works great for simple stuff. There are alot of inline sketch tools for 3D models. Try Google Sketchup or PTC Creo if you have an interest. Good luck!
@cheewll they are usually near the tools and automotive stuff... but if not there you can always get some from walmart or target or a bike store. They are just bike lights. They'll be around $9 or so if you can't find them at a 99cent store... good luck!
@KEVINSAWESOME1 This is one of the reasons the big holes were cut in the hat as well as having the lights able to pop in and out of the tubing they sit in. You can reach up into the upper section and turn them on or off as well as pop them out to replace the batteries. I think this is alot cleaner than having an opening or removable side to the box.
@reymisteriocheese yeah you could, but it's a bit too fine... and since it was chosen b/c it hides your face pretty well, it might hide the light too much. And actually - if you wanted to skip the mesh on the eyes all together - it doesn't look that bad. I just put that mesh there to give the perception of depth...
@brownie1622 look for any ~4" diameter tubing... I used a shipping tube. There are all sorts of thing you could try... centers of tape rolls, plastic tubes (tho harder to cut), etc... get creative - half the fun is solving the problem!
Bought it from McMaster Carr - If you follow IRsuperman's directions you find everything you need with part numbers. The only thing you may not want to do is buy in bulk. I bought a pack 10 boxes, but it's worth it. I did the research and it's still the best priced box with no graphics printed on it at 12x12x16.
@MrChagers36 I tried a few local stores with limited success, but I did find some shipping companies that had them. I noticed that McMaster Carr has them (Part Number 2056T121), but you have to buy 10. As long as you are within 11-12" W x 11-12" L x 15-16" H, it will have the right proportions. Party Rock Anthem uses a slightly diff box than Sexy and I Know It. If you use something other than 12x12x16 tho, you'll have to tweak the mouth dimensions a little from what I used.
took me forever to find one cause i didnt wanna believe that 12x12x16 was the right size, but I found this size at every home improvement store (in california). Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
so, i managed it. used some foam from a camping roll mat cut to the right size which i then mounted to some thinner cardboard cut to the same shape. strong, and was still able to match the shape of the hat. attached it all with my good friend duct tape

@KEVINSAWESOME1 glad you liked it - yeah all good design starts with thinking about how it will be used, both now and in the future. Access to batteries was important. Even the height it sits off your head is important so if you tilt your head and shrug, you won't damage it, even the mesh choice and all sorts of little details. Yeah it just a stinking box that sits on your head, but those extra details will always help a project shine a little brighter. Have fun with your project!
This video was alot of help.. I found the lights after 3 stores, couldn't find the eye holders so I used Doritos cans(like the Pringles). I found original ears 4rm Sexy& I know it video, at Lowes in the plumbing Dept. Thanx 4 da Video.
@TheLoganu Seems to be some trouble finding them at the 99 cent stores now... so i found them on amazon and a few other online stores. prices range from $2-$19 tho. Search "Red Yellow Bicycle Light" on google or google image and you'll be able to track some down.
listen people the dimensions are in inches the size of the box is about 40 centimeters tall and about 30 centimeters wide hope it helps PS- I did the head and I didn't find a box like that so find a box that fits your head and make the adjustments thums up if this helps
For people having problems with finding pants and a jacket. Go to Goodwill or some other thrift store! That's what I did and spent less than $10. Then just spray/splotch everything with gold paint. It sticks, and it's not like you'll wear it everyday, so it'll stay.
Dang! Foiled by RU-vid again (sometimes my updates don't take). For the tubes, anything that is 4" in diameter and can be cut "easily" will work. I used shipping tubes, can be ordered online or picked up at post office. 4" diameter is the key. Then just cut down to about 2-3" or so height. As far as LED lights. I've got a few left, so yes! Send me a message and we'll set it up. $10 if you are in the states. Batteries not included... hope that helps!
I spent 5 hours looking for all the materials until I looked up McMaster Carr and realized I lived 15 minutes from the warehouse... FML but at least now I have my shuffle bot.
@IRsuperman I've had alot of emails asking about buying one - I'm going to make a quick video about it this week or weekend but starting sunday, I'll be putting up some auctions on eBay for shuffle bot heads that I'll be building. There will be 8 total going to auction. I'm still working on a few details. Price will start at $25 (~cost of materials) - everything above that goes to cancer research! I'm hoping they sell for $40-50 each... or more! We shall see. I'll post something by Saturday.

@jagungbusuk If you have the same LED's you'll need to use roughly the same diameter tubes. The tubes need to be around 4" in diameter plus or minus a little. The best way to see what size you need to to measure the length of the LED, then size your tube to give you the ability to support the LED. Too big and the LED will fall out. Too small and you won't be able to see the yellow. I hope that helps! Good luck!
Let's say hypothetically that i've done EVERYTHING apart from having any foam to hold the hard hat in place. Anything you can recommend as an improvisation?
@MrLuffy9131 p.s. another option i was playing with but didn't test... was to glue everything like I've done, but don't glue one of the box flaps closed. Instead, use some velcro to keep it shut. Seems to work in theory, but I can imagine that the adhesive on the velcro and strength of the velcro might actually rip the box if opened and closed alot... just a thought. Many ways to skin a cat!
full circles! 4" tubing... get it from a shipping store or McMaster... part number 20545T35 or longer up to 20545T39 (T3X... where X is just tube length... in case you want more)...

Great Video!!! All I have left to do is put on the ears. I had to make adjustments because I could not find that size box. So, I had to readjust your measurements (WHICH WERE GREAT) to my 15 x 15 x 16 box. And I found the LED lights at the 99cent store but they were not exact like yours. So, I had to make adjustments there, too. But this was the Best Video I found on RU-vid for the Shufflebot!!! Thank you Very Much!! Are you an engineer or just architecturally gifted?
