Engine: 5.0 litre V8 VK50 by Nissan
Power: 420 hp
Weight: 900 kg
Geabox: 6-speed sequential by X-Trac
The chassis and bodywork of the LMP3 can be built by six manufacturers which have been designed by the ACO : Ginetta, Ligier, Adess, Dome, Riley and Norma. They are very close to those of the current LMP2 (closed cockpit, carbon chassis with tubular steel roll cage). The powertrain consist of a Nissan 420 bhp normally aspirated V8 engine, and an X-Trac gearbox. It is identical for all chassis, and marketed by the ORECA company which also provides specific assistance to teams.

Insane downshifts @ 2:46. From 5th into 1st in 2.5 seconds. I had no idea one can shift into 1st on these sequential box.

I thought the same! Those front pillars are huge blind spots (probably doesn’t affect vis to other cars much but just for sighting the turn it must be distracting )

Each time you change gears the car is slightly unsettled because of the jolting you also get better pick up in 5th then you do in 6th so 5th is usually better for grip and high speed corners while 6th is better for actual straights

noob question: is the reason there are only 5 gears used the track layout? would assume lmp3 has 6 gears, but maybe here 5 gears work better?

Hello Henry. There is one gearbox homologated for all tracks, so its possible to race on Spa, Le mans etc.

My only gripe with LMP3 is its carbon footprint. 5 litre V8 burns a lot of gas.

I don't get this. It looks like multiple races are taking place at the same time. One race among the speedy-looking mofos (and I guess that's what LMP1 is), and another race with the more traditional-looking racing cars (which I guess is LMP2/3). This is probably just a bunch of random cars of different classes on a practice track, which explains it, but there are different car classes in real races too, it seems.
