Following on from the last week's double headed Castles was always going to be a bit a bit of a challenge especially given the level of performance which was on display. For the today's video we would get a rare southern visit of 46115 Scots Guardsman heading from Manchester to Stratford Upon Avon, the highlight of the trip would be the juant over the Shakespeare Line aka the North Warwick Line, which runs from Birmingham Snow Hill to Stratford Upon Avon. The section of the line is very well preserved if a little overgrown but it has some lovely stations especially from Hall Green onwards.
It's not often West Coast Railways send their supreme Royal Scout this far south and when we fancy seeing the locomotive it usually ends up in a long day, so the fact it was coming on to our patch made it one not to be missed. The video starts off in rural Staffordshire at Madeley, where we get a good side on glimpse of the Royal Scot class as its passed by two Pendolinos. With the scenic shot of the day completed we headed into the Birmingham suburbs where 46115 is heard leaving Tyseley and passing through Spring Road, which is probably the most run down station on the North Warwick Line, which can be seen why in the going the away shot. Almost a mile further up the line is Hall Green, where the loco can eventually be heard accelerating harder while trying to make up time, unfortunately the diesel on the rear gives a helping hand to regain time.
For the return leg there is the long 9 mile climb from Edstone Aqueduct to Earlswood Lakes at a majority of 1/150. For the return we chose Henley In Arden, which again has been well preserved with just a few additions of modern day infrastructure on display. 46115 was captured in fine voice and working very well as it headed towards Birmingham. After the hard work was over the Scot is seen slowly at Shirley as it approaches a signal check. This was a bonus shot as I (Liam) was not available for the return leg due to work commitments but In a stroke of luck I just happened to be in the area at time of the train, so I took an early break and headed over to the station with my phone in hand, not a bad way to finish, I just hope the boss isn't watching or reading this !
