I must point something out. Sierra and Anna are NOT in the same voice classification! Sierra is a Light Lyric soprano. Anna is a Full Lyric soprano. A Light Lyric has a higher and brighter timbre. A Full Lyric has a deeper and more richly textured one. If you prefer one over the other. That is fine by all means. However saying one is bad because it is different then the other says to me you do not understand the variety of the human voice and individual delivery.
+Weronika K According to an old friend who I met on this site. He was a judge for classical voice competitions. From teenagers to those in their 60's. He cited Anna as a Full Lyric. This man knew classifications for each soprano. I trust his word when he says she is a Full Lyric. :) I wish he was still around on this site. I would have loved to introduced you to him. I miss him. He was such a pleasure to talk to. :(
Sierra is great, but Anna's voice is better for the role as well as the rest of the Australian cast. Their voices sounded more mature as if 10 years had passed. I'm not trying to put down the London cast in anyway.
I think Gina Beck stood out for me for some reason however I may not be playing fair since there are those singing in different languages. And some of those singing in English, I couldn't understand the words.
I personally prefer Anna overall as Christine in LND. Her voice is better suited for the role. However, the only thing is that Sierra's voice is clearer. Both are great.
Huh, really? Not trying to start an argument, but I know a lot of people thought her diction was pretty poor. I think Celia Graham was probably the one with clearest diction, though the audio here doesn't show it off well.
Sierra's version is still the best in my opinion, but this recording of Celia Graham does her no justice at all! I saw her recently and she was really good. But I've seen them both live and Sierra really hits it perfectly.
My favorites have to be Sierra Boggess in the musical category, but Liping Zhang and Sumi Jo are my other favorites because they are opera singers, so they sell this a bit more in that respect. :) Especially Dame Kiri Te Kanawa! She sells it!
Ahaha I mean in this audio. Everyone else (in this audio at least) just sounded like they were vocalizing except for Ayaka Hirahara (though it might just be me). Although I do agree in the great majority of the performance, Sierra's enunciation wasnt great
What a shame this was created before Claire Lyon recorded her rendition. Same with Rachel Anne Moore, Erin Rose and Heidi Karlsson. They are sublime with this!
Haley Masters Hello there. I hope you are doing well. And hopefully far better then me. Four years ago, someone uploaded a video of Erin singing LND at a cabaret type performance. It wasn't even online for two weeks before it was ripped off. Probably for copyright violation. The video has not turned up since. It breaks my heart because to this day I want to share that gem of video with my fellow soprano fans. If ever does reappear on the net. I will let you know straight away.
Hello again. I hope life is swell for you my friend. Be sure to check out Part two of this song's compilation on this YT channel. Some new and awesome ladies have been added to the list now. :)
ok , great perfomances from all the ladies! my personal oppinion is that my favourite version is sierra's , i like celia too but i wish i could hear somewhere her full version of the song , don't judge me (nicole's fans) but i think nicole's is the worst version of the song. :) sorry for bad english :/
Why sings Anna Maria Kaufmann in english? I know that there is a song in German. And there's a Viennese (Austria) Version with Milica Jovanović who sings the song really well. ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2mGA8tF55NQ.html -as a Concert) :D
This video was made in 2011, two years before the Vienna concert even opened. At the time, there was no German translation of the song. And yes, I am aware of Milica Jovanovic's version; I'm planning on making a Part 2 to this video that will include the more recent renditions of this song.
right.. und ich habe mir sowohl die englische als auch die deutsche Version angehört. Entschuldige, aber das muss kurz raus: Gott wie ich es hasse, lange Texte auf Englisch zu schreiben! .... Jetzt geht's wieder :)
I just love Sierra's version!!! Celia is lovely vocally as well, but I didn't think that her acting performance matched SIerra's. And I don't mind Anna, (she reminds me of Sierra quite a lot), Sumi Jo, Liping Zhang, Edyta Krzemien, Gina Beck and Anna Maria Kauffman, Kiri Te Kanawa. Katherine's is good considering the key is dropped. Don't like the Japanese version at all though! Thanks for this, it's so great to be able to hear all the different Christine's sing it their way! :D
Sierra is the best here for sure! And I have to say, Anna looks more beautiful here without the makeup she had in the filmed version. I didn't know there were so many versions in other languages. Among them I think the Korean one sounds better. In the Mandarin version (based on what I heard here), I could hear power in her voice, but it lacks the softness of being Christine. I wonder how it would sound like if Sierra or Anna sings The Heart Is Slow To Learn version.
Yes, this was made quite early; I don't think the Aussie production had even opened yet. I'm probably going to make another comparison video with more recent recordings of Sierra, Celia, and Anna singing the song. (Same for Phantoms, too.)
Kiri Te Kawana and Sumi Jo are two of my favorite singers of all time. So naturally I have to give them a standing ovation, :) Anna is pretty wonderful as well. I just have to get used to her interpretation a little more. Sierra is still my favorite on this list though. She has the technical range and the emotion to full-fill the entire character. My heart soars when she hits the B-flat. I can feel the character's joy & the power of her ability.
Anna is definitely the best Christine in Love Never Dies. Her voice is so passionate and so mature. Anna also had amazing chemistry with Ben Lewis. Ramin and Sierra did have great chemistry but it didn't show as much in LND like they did in poto.
Anna is the best ,and Sumi comes in a very close second. Katherine Jenkins has a nice maturity and range. Nicole Scherzinger IS painful to listen to. I'd rather hear a drunk Xtina Aguilera caterwauling her bloated self at the moon..
I think Dame Kiri's original final higher note was much better than the lowered one in the final version. Ending the beautiful song on that undramatic note to me just feels kinda like a great story with an unsatisfying last page...
