In this episode at the modern image 00 gauge layout New Junction, We take a look at the Class 91 and full rake of coaches I've been sent in. Want to Support the Channel, then be my guest: / newjunction
Hi Richard Just like to say thank you from my wife and myself for being so friendly and chatty yesterday at Wigan show it was much appreciated. Kind Regards John
Love the announcement The next train to arrive at platform 2 is the 13:45 LNER service to London Kings X calling at Darlington, York and London Kings X
I'm going to get into this hobby soon! I have a working knowledge of trains and I like trains. A lot of people would call this childish or sad but I think people should just so what they want as long as it's not harming themselve or others. And I don't see why adults with spare time and money can't just have fun so well done for ignoring those people if you've ever came across them. Probably have cause people just like to hate on RU-vid. Nice video.
Hi Richard another great video mate class 91 elec loco look great with lights I have put head and tails lights in my class 81/82/86/90s hornby elec locos on my west coast main line layout set In the 1980s clive
Even though the tooling is quite old there's no denying how smart they look; the old Hornby tooling must be just as old as the real 91s! I absolutely love the look of these sets. What a difference lights make to them. One can only imagine how great it will be to see that on the brand new tooling.
glad you liked the comment , by the way both 91s and rakes look great and your original 91 with the LNER masking the old operator looks great and authentic even if it dosen't have the working lights , both are great models
Love the class 91's. Not normally my sort of thing but I am quite fond of them, since it was my Grandad and one other guy who made all the bogies for them at Derby when they were being built back in the mid-late 80's. Great video, thanks!
I have a nice class 91 in intercity livery my late wife got me for Christmas ,o think hornby had plans for this model ie lights and detailing pack if you look at the buffer beam there are holes maybe for pipes, but at the time of release lates 80s probably cost my one was in a set you see a great wife who understands hehe ,great channel mate all the best ,Mark
Nice update on the 91 Richard, great looking set, reminds me to revisit my GNER set to add lights to the DVT as I’ve done my power car already, Ive also been trying to collect ex sets of mk4 virgin coaches and I picked up a buffet car from a well known ebayer who produces quality resprays/conversions to build up a VTEC Set, cheers Dazza
I started working on Eadt Coast in 1990 whilst still part of BR. We went through the whole privatisation process and ended up with GNER. Obviously the process of respraying each DVT coach and Class91 took its time but eventually it happened. The first time every platform was filled with blue GNER sets was amazing and i remember it well.
That looks great. I have 2 complete sets of class 91s with 9 coaches each and DVTs from 90s in intercity swallow. I don't have a layout but I have put lights in DVT and locos and wiring up for DCC. I found cutting out the holes and the side valances really improves the look, which I have done on one, but PH design to etched side valances which I might buy. The whole set will be resprayed when I have time as moulded white plastic does not look good, especially when 30 years old.
I used to detail and weather these locos. They can actually scrub up quite well with decent paintwork, weathering and some detailing added. The basic shape is decent even if the tooling is pretty old. Though I am told there are all-new class 91s in the pipeline. If it can match the standard of the Bachmann 90 then it will be worth waiting for!
They are very sharp trains and whoever did the re-paint on the LNER is a master. On camera, those look factory fresh. Super clean and sleek, then you talk about weathering, and I cringe. lol (I like them unrealistically clean).
An interesting overview. It’s units like this 91 or a 43 that makes me think I need to buy one sometime even if it is well outside my modelling era. 😬 Paul
Hi Richard great video. Another option is you could ask and pay Richard from everard junction to respray them and fit the lighting kit. He's done it before with his loco and coaches. 😊
Those lights really do make all the difference. Maybe if Hornby make a Class 59 and 66 with lights and better details they can finally take the fight to Bachmann's equivalents
At £10, even if you made a mess of it, you're not too much out of pocket and you could have multiple goes if necessary. And once you have mastered that (YOU CAN DO EET Richard!) you could save yourself £90 per coach too.
Great video that does look great I wouldn't have the patience to do that and try to get it all correct although I have been working on some models to make some that are not available in RTR I have done LMS turbo motive A streamlined P2 And a prototype HST
Certainly very nice, I think Hornby has missed out on a lot of sales by not keeping this model up to date with all the possible liveries. Thanks for sharing this Richard. David.
It’s amazing what lighting and respray can do to such an old model. I still have my original one from around 1991 and until 15 years ago it could hold its own. Now, it ooks toy like and the newly tooled version from Cavalex is so exciting! The Hornby MK4’s look so cheap and basic by todays standards and lacks any real weight. It does annoy me that Hornby will still charge the earth for 91 sets you showed. Love the vid as always!
Love the recording from Newcastle central at the start. I thought I recognised that voice :) Something to note on the 225's the buffet has the standard seating so the coach in the rake should have the seating at the 91 end but on the 125 it's reversed. Also, a cracking opportunity to get 91119 Bounds Green in Intercity livery on the front of an LNER rake and still be prototypical.
Great video, despite it being as old a tooling as it is, it is still an excellent model, the one loaned to you does put the unmodified one to shame but I think you could do said mods on yours, or im sure you know some modellers who would be happy to add lighting for you. Hopefully see you tomorrow at wigan Richard.
Amazing video, was wondering how you got so much MK4 stock on the last video. Always wanted to purchase a LNER/Virgin class 91, the opportunity is almost here!
If only I lived in the UK, I would've resprayed the whole rake for you for approx. 20 quid per coach (if you could provide decals). Sadly I live halfway across the globe and even if I were to do it free of cost, shipping would cost you more. That's why I have to respray my own models as getting them resprayed in the UK would be a disaster for my bank account.
Hello, I maybe wrong a bout this - not my era - but aren't the newer liveried coaches available to pre-order on Hattons site. If you look under Hornby in 'future releases'. Much cheaper than a re-spray. I may be talking about the wrong one's though.
I was going to ask you a question, but I have already seen the answer in the video list. The class 91 is being replaced with Azuma-Hitachi class 800. I did hope they would bring back the Apple green in the new logo. recreating History. Martin. (Thailand)
Nice video . Do you know who does the transfers? In particular I’ve struggled to find the blue stripes on first class coaches . They should fade at the ends I think, but I’d accept solid lines just to get a set . . Love my 91 but really need a few more coaches particularly first class and buffet.
New Junction Thanks , tried them a while ago, didn’t see them then but will try again. There is a guy I came across on eBay 43300HST or HST43300 who has offered to repaint some mk4s at reasonable cost. He has a facebook page . I came across him because he had a repainted Hornby Inter7City HST on eBay.
Very interesting video thank you, have you seen the pictures of the Europhoenix 91 that have just appeared on the Facebook, that would make a model, even though the original is destined for work in Eastern Europe after defeating, presumably for freight possibly in pairs coupled blunt end to blunt end , so I believe, cheers matey
hello Richard! I bought myself a 150 recently however i was stupid enough to bend one pin from the dcc socket :| any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated
Like yourself Richard, I also built my layout to run class 91s, but more an earlier era. Biggest issue I have is inclines and the sharp reversing loop. I have a GNER 91 with full rake, which is in the queue for my work bench. I know a guy who weathers and resprays locos, if you would like his details?
Jumping cars is an issue for most of our centerbeam cars here in the US, recently with two derailments on Horseshoe Curve, PA. Saddly we cant just go and add weights to them.
At the price of respraying each coach would it be cheaper to put the money towards the forthcoming 91 release and potentially sell the east coast one? Not sure what price the new one will be so maybe not!
