My friends just roll their eyes when I try to show them this and talk to them about it. If you’re listening to this song rn, respect man. This is gold.
Why is it "way ahead"? That's stupid. Give them the respect they deserve, no one, NO ONE!!, comes close to this shit now. It sounds like shit but its amazing. Its like how they look at the pyramids and the only way anyone can figure that shit is that aliens must have dun it, except here it was the devil shyt in Memphis. It's their time, and it was their talent and their time. And the aliens!! 👽
@@thegreatsiberianitch what that was compliment and is true they were ahead at their time not meaning that was a bad thing but I'm saying is crazy because that's how some rappers and producers are doing like this style today but your correct on that these guys are way better and I agree
Nigga 808s was out in 1980 wtf you talking about? Why i do give them credit and I have also been a fan of the music since the 90's so don't say shit. Also I think these off 660s mostly or even a dr-55. they didint have money for a Roland 808 at first.
This song already hit! It’s timeless so it doesn’t sound old or new but mfs should know Memphis music influenced 90% of raps catalog. Imma Midwest cat but Memphis music is a whole different demon 😈
The whole 90s Memphis scene was ahead of its time. They made a timeless sound that still we still hear elements of in todays music. Its wild because this was made almost 30 years ago and it still hasnt aged one bit. While the east and west coast was the dominant sound during the time, the south experimented with different sounds and styles. Now everyone wants to sound like Memphis
to think that the mainstream 90s rap like 2pac and biggie sound dated today but this somehow still cool among the kids today like drift phonk and trap metal rap influence is big
@@MARMAR-xw6gj because those rappers and styles are dated. they are a relic of the 90s. coming from new york i love those styles they identify as the east coast sound. but new york had a problem where they only saw that sound as "real" hip hop. they didnt progress their sound which is why new york is nowhere near as relevant to the hip hop scene as it was 30 years ago.
Little did those guys know 30 years after those songs, there's now a whole genre and rap groups based on their style that are profiting a lot of it, Tommy Wright and Lo Key are legends.
I was lucky enough to see Tommy Wright III in Brooklyn a few years ago. Some hardcore bands opened up for him and lil ugly mane, it was absolutely amazing and awesome to a new generation supporting his music
I actually got a dj to play this at a bowling alley one night. The bar tender and the rest of crowd was digging it. The bar tender wanted to know the name of the artist/song, so i gave it, and said listen there's a lot of this type of music no one knows about. Shes hooked. She loves the devilshyt now.
Bro it crazy how many different type of artists this music influenced, in just this song alone you can hear tones of Suicideboys, denzel curry, freddie dredd, hell even the beat has such a dark atmosphere but almost with a bit of chill lofi mixed into it? Just crazy to think this came out back in 94, and still hits hard to this day
man that switch up at 1:25 is cold and way ahead of its time!! Im into trap beat production/ phonk beats, and hearing this beat that was made 26 years ago made my jaw drop!! i’m speechless how much these OG’s rappers, and producers especially, grandfathered these modern day artists.
no hate but the difference is paul did it better than squeeky 9 out of 10 times whereas SB dont come close to paul, and that sound biting claim was brought to be cause paul would use the same samples, which EVERYBODY in memphis did lmao
Or who thought they wouldn't be drawn to this music enjoy it - I'm from Houston I been listening to 36 Mafia and Memphis shyt since highschool way back in 2007 up til now. So I never had a problem enjoying and loving and many more outside of Memphis. Now the problem was those who weren't attracted to this vibe or sound then years later catching on due it now being more digestible through the mainstream watering it down or sugarcoating the essence of this beautiful and raw noise of the soul.
Some can get the flow and style, but there's nothing that compares to Koppsta, LowKey, Immortal Lowlifes, BlackOut, Tommy Wright III, Gangsta Pat. It's all in the soul of memphis rap, that down south devylysh pympyn shyt
I come back to bump this track every so often and I'm startin to think this beat might be top 5, maybe even top 3, greatest beats in all hip hop history. The fact that somethin this fire was created back at a time with such limited tools is pure insanity. Them boys were plum out they mind to conjure somethin up like this. It destroys virtually everythin. Playin it in the whip with big woofers makes it damn near impossible to stop replayin. Its like a drug.
This is when the East coast mainly Nee York wanted to keep that southern sound down called us dirty and hillbilly 😂 look at it now that underground sht has taken over maybe not in the way the old heads would’ve wanted but it did 💯

I just wanna give thanks to the whole Dark Underground Memphis Rap Scene,y'all made an impact to the game and deez new age niggas don't give y'all credit
Bout to be 18 Inna few months and I remember first hearin dis in 2018 scrolling thru souldja page at around 4 am, and the track has had me in a stranglehold since, I couldn't go one night without listening to it. hoping to get that same feel I got when I first listened to this song. Time fly
This is my shit, growing up here in Memphis with Tommy Wright, Skinny Pimp, & many others along with Triple 6 in the horror-core scene. Shit is still banging hard
23 and just finding this since im a big Memphis and three six fan. the comments hit me like a truck though seeing this vid made a year after my sister was born ((shes 30 now)) fuck life goes fast.
YEAYERR, THIS IS BUCKSHOTS OF LIFESTYLES TRIFLEON, THE LONGEVITY OF SONGS TREMENDOUSLY, THE L.S.T. GROUP IS ALWAYS FLAVORING THE "CHALKLINES" ALBUM, AND ITS STILL BEEN HYPE EVER SINCE LYDIA'S NITE CLUB AND OUR FIRST OPEN MIC NIGHT, WHERE I FLOWED AND THE PARTNER FLOWED, BOTH ON STAGE RIPPING IT UP, KEEPING IT ON AND POPPING, FEATURING OUR DEBUT AS BALISTICKZ AND BUCKSHOTS, AS WE WERE LONG ON THE STAGE MAKING OUR PHOTOGRAPHER WORK THE FRONT STAGE PERFORMANCE!...
THIS MUSIC AND LYRICISM ARE THE ORIGINAL PIONEERS. SOUNDS EXXXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE UNDERGROUND TRAP MOVEMENTAS WE SPEAK....ON THE LIKES OF $uicideboy$, GhosteMane, BONES, Xavier Wulf....ETC YALL THE ORIGINAL LEGENDS. ALL THESE PEOPLE COMING OUT THINKING THEY ORIGINAL....SMH
we been making music like this since like 2008-09 gg all of us have respect for the pioneers my g as this is all we used to sample but now hypebeasts tryna fuck with the culture
It's not phonk. This is OG 90's Memphis Rap/Devil Shyt. SPACEGHOSTPURRP created phonk inspire by this Memphis music. Then that lame ass drift phonk shyt was made afterwards... Mfs be ruining classics just like suicideboys does.
This Particular flow pattern you hear from these old Memphis rappers you here today! I think Lord infamous RIP perfected it. Juicy Jay polished it and made it mainstream.
This beat is insane oh my gosh. Everyone is dead right when they say Memphis was ahead of it’s time. Still fresh in 2023 as I’m now finding this stuff. I was born in 04 so this is all so fun to find for myself. I mean realistically if 21 savage and metro made a song like this today it would sounds insane still
@@YUH559. Really amazing song. I legit thought this was some underground group trynna sound like suicide boys (who in themselves try to sound like 36.).
STOP IT!!! I´ve been listening different types of Raps (not only Eastcoast) since the early 90s and this one sounds like it is from this era. Flowwise it reminds me a bit on BTNH. Nowadays stuff sounds mostly wack, how come you relate this golden track to this???
@@theotherphoneplease598 you might be outta touch then because the 2010's has been filled w this sound in the underground. you could even look at purple leans channel here on RU-vid for starters to see I'm not lying
Its crazy how people try to credit ATL for the origin of the triplet flow when memphis been doing it way longer. One of my favorites growing up and it inspired my taste in some of the beats I made lol
