hi guys, i set up the fattail flex2 with sidewinders and otang's 4 press 83a and its a surfoard!!! its really unstable but its the best carving board i have ever tried! thanks for the help! hope to see you next year if i travel to the states!
The Fattail will let you do some tricks, it's got a little kick on the nose and a good size kick on the tail. Flex 1 will be pretty stiff, but if that's your preference then rock it. Stiffer can be better for tricks, as you'll get a better response from the deck and the tails won't flex as much. You can do some slides on the Fattail, although it's not primarily designed for it. You may want to check out the Tan Tien as well, good for tricks and slides.
For power slides and some 180's you could use the stock setup (paris 150mm and Otangs are stock, see if you can get Stimulus 86 or 83A). For bigger slides you could trick it out, but you'd be better off with a different board. Say some symmetric, bigger concaves, less flex.
thanks a lot man! you have been really helpfull! i bought a bhangra last year from you and i just cant get enough of it! another question wich board do you think is the best for carving? and wich board do you think fits best to the gullwing sidewinders? thanks again, from argentina!
Cruise and carve, yes. If by "some downhill" you mean smaller hills or parking garages it'll be fine. For big hills you'd be better off with a more stable board (stiffer, longer wheelbase, etc). It's definitely a great shredder, so if you're mainly carving and cruising check it out.
softer flexes tend to pump better. The energy that goes into the downward flex results in a good pop out of turns. You'll want to match up the flex to your weight (Flex 1: up to 275 lbs; Flex 2: 125-215 lbs; Flex 3: 75-175 lbs). As you can see, there's some overlap, so if you have a choice between 2 flexes go with the higher flex one for better pumping action.
Commuting on the Fattail is mad fun. Slide wise it's ok, but if you want to learn how to slide the Tan Tien is probably a better choice. For braking you can drag one foot (slower speeds), but at higher speeds you'll need to slide to shed some speed off. Don't go down a hill that you aren't ready to commit to!
The Fattail is a sick carver, responds fast and pumps very easily. I wouldn't use the sidewinders on it though, 150mm trucks work good (stock Paris are actually matched up great). Sector 9 has some good drop though decks designed with the sidewinders in mind. If you like the feel of the Sidewinders, check the Fractal or the Shattered out.
@menou009 I'd be glad to help out. If you're going to be doing some hills I'd say go with the Dervish. The drop though setup will give you a bit more stability, as well as making pushing easier during commuting. If you're mainly carving with a few small hills here and there the Fattail would be the call.
if you're doing a lot of sliding I would check out the Dervish Sama. It's a really solid carver (I liked it better than the previous Dervish after a little test) and is more slide friendly than the Fattail. Plus new kicks on the nose and tail for extra tricky goodness.
i would go with something that has a stiffer deck and bigger concaves. Also, one that is symmetrical. Some of our best sellers are the Landyatchz 9two5 or the Switchblade. If you prefer something with a little flex you can check out the Loaded Tan Tien.
It can definitely do some tricks, although not quite as well as the Tan Tien. If your skating is real trick heavy then I would lean towards the Tan Tien, but if you are mainly carving it up with some tricks thrown in then you'll like the Fat Tail
Hey what do you think of this board vs the Tan Tien. Id use it for carving, crusing and eventually tricks like ollies and manuals etc. I like this board kuz its not as mainstream as the tan tien but i go for use than look and style anyday
@Contrarrily well, you certainly could set it up for slide and freestyle, but you probably would have been better off with a different deck (Landyatchz Switch, Nine Two Five, Dervish, etc.) that had more concave, stiffer, etc. The Fattail is a sick carver, so throw some harder duro wheels on it (Orangatang Stimulus 86A for example) and that'll help you out.
depends on your riding style. The Fattail kills it at cruise, pumping, and especially carves. Really fun to rip around. The Tan Tien is quite good at tricks and freestyle stuff. At your weight the Flex 2 Fattail is gonna be a sick cruiser/carver.
@treynessify there's quite a bit of choices out there. I'd recommend checking out this board (carves super well), the Loaded Dervish, or a Sector 9 with the Sidewinder trucks.
@ameenlongboard Paris 180mm would work on it, but I think the 150mm trucks it comes with are pretty awesome. They let you turn pretty tight. 75mm Durians would work well too, but the slightly smaller 70mm lets you really carve it up.
I have the dervish and although i love the carving and pumping on it i want something that is good for that aswell as pulling manuals ollies and shuvs id also still like to be able to pull stand up slides with a certain ammount of ease would u say the fattail is a good choice ?...
I currently have an old loaded pintail that ive been riding for a year or so now.. im pleased with the board but i am on a budget and want to keep the 150 mm trucks and just put them on a loaded fat tail deck.. is it worth upgrading my pintail to the fattail.. because I like the pintails ride feel but its just for cruising will the fattail make me to be able to do tricks ? and what flex should i get flex 2 or flex 1 ? im 160 pounds .. will flex 1 still be flexy? and is the fattail ok for sliding
@Rolsentin for what you're describing I'd probably go with the Bhangra. Although the Fat Tail has a kick on it, you'll be better set with something meant for tricks and freestyle.
Would you say that the tan tien is a better board than the fattail? what abot getting the fattail in the flex 2 will it be a cruisier feeling.. maybe even a flex 3 ??
should be fine. The smaller wheelbase (compared to the Dervish) will help keep it from bottoming out too easily if you decide to jump around like a mad man/woman (keeping it equal yo). As far as length, it's really a personal preference depending on riding style. I'm 6'2 and like to carve/pump and I really like the Fattail.
I think you'd do better with the Tan Tien. Still has kicks for shuvs and manuals, but it will do better on slides than the Fattail. Plus it's symmetrical so you could ride out switch.
I got a dervish and I'm looking for a board which I can do more tricks on this is what I've got in mind: fattail, tan tien, dk penguin, apex 40, ceviche, kebbek John Barnett. I still go some Paris 180 and blue metro motions. What would you recommend? Thanks!
@redactivist you could put them on, but those are some pretty wide trucks for that board. Best bet would to use something a bit smaller in the 150mm range, or 180 if you have to. The larger trucks will decrease the response for the board, and are best suited on something a bit longer and wider.
@CrazyFanNation currently we have the Apex 37 Carbon in stock, but I can't guarantee it will be there in a month. We can order boards or transfer them from another store. My recommendation is to call them ahead of time and possibly order one so its there in a month.
@martijnvincent5 ok, that's quite a list! So as far as tricks go I'm assuming we're talking slides, shuvits, manuals, etc. I'd skip the fattail and ceviche; they're sick for carving it up but for the other tricks some other board would work better. The Tan Tien would work well as its light and the kicktails will help out for manuals, shuvits, etc. The DK Penguin also looks pretty solid.
Hey, I really love to carve and don't do tricks really at all but I like to slide, if I got 86a otangs would this be a good board for me or what other suggestions do you have, thanks.
@bcsurfandsportsvideos should I get this or the tan tien for commuting carving and flip tricks like shuvits tiger claws or should I shell out the extra money for a Bhangra
@ohaithercat yeah, the Tan Tien is more of a freeride board than the Fattail. You should still hit up Paris about the trucks as they're covered under warranty. Unless you don't like free stuff. That's ok too.
@ohaithercat does he have 180's on a Fattail? I don't disagree that 180's are solid for freestyle as that one of the most popular sizes from Paris, Randal, Bear, etc. Mainly I'd say that the deck isn't really designed for freestyle, and if that's what you want to do you'd be better off on something else with the same trucks. As far as them bending we haven't had any trouble with ours, so you may want to send Paris an email about them as that's covered under their warranty.
the gullwings should work alright, although I like the Paris 150mm better on this board. If you already have chargers check their degree, you'll definitely want the 50 degree ones, 40 wouldn't work very well. 4pres will be sick also.
hey I'm looking for a new board and i'm tossing up between the dervish and the fat tail. I'd be doing a fair bit of hill shredding/carving as well as some freestyle and commuting, can you help me out with making a decision? Cheers
@poptartfan7 get this one. It carves really well, and I was having a blast on it just cutting around. If you're not hitting any hills the stiffness of the Vendetta won't come into play too much, and the flex of the Fattail will give you a lively feel for free ride and carves.
@Contrarrily hey, my friend has 180's all he does is freestyle and sliding. the one thing i have to say is that paris truck bend ALOT from freestyle, and bent trucks always throw off his sliding. so if you dont do ledges or huge bonlesses you should be fine
@fluff1991 The Fat Tail would be sick for the carving and cruising. If you just want to stick with ollies and manuals I think you'll be ok. If you want to go for a lot more tricks though, I suggest getting the Tan Tien.
@pudge131 thanks for your comment. Most of the Fattails we have received are equipped with Orangatang 4Presidents 80A's, so they'll definitely be gripping. As this is a review of the complete I believe the comment still stands. Also, the deck's wheel base, increased concave, and top mount really make the board more designed towards carving than sliding, hence "holding lines." Hope this helps out.
@jon971203 it's gonna depend on kind of riding you want to do. I think the Apex is a little more "all around" but carving around on the Fattail is sweet. It was some of the most fun I had in awhile on a board. If you want to try out some slides and other such maneuvers I would go towards the Apex though.
@TheChaosCommando that's what she said! Ok, keeping it PG from here on out. Here's more than you asked for: Length: 38" / 96.5cm Width:8.63" / 22cm Wheelbase (Inner):26.5" / 67.3cm Wheelbase (Outer): 27.4" / 69.6cm Weight: deck only: 2.6lbs. / 1.1kg complete: 6.4lbs / 2.9kg Go rip!
Hello Twinzy, best idea is to start on our video "How to choose a longboard." It'll get you started with some of the basics. Let me know what type of riding you want to do and we'll go from there!
Guys i dont feel good, im kinda sad atm. I just bought the dervish sama today, and i was so exited untill i found out about this board. I bought a longboard to get to school, and to the sport that i do, so pretty much for driving in my city, but now i realise that it is soo long and that the fattail would be so much greater? can anyone cheer me up?
@CrazyFanNation give them call and they'll help you get it setup. You could do it online through our site, although I think it will be easier if you talk to them in person. You can grab their number from our site, BCSurf.com. Check out the Support tab, and then go to store locator.
@bcsurfandsportvideos he jas them on the tan tien, weve been boarding close to everyday for 7 monthes. lololololol hes getting a new pair for christmas so its all good
