Here's a video of us stacking and hauling large square bales several weeks back. The hay itself is first crop cutting, and was baled with a New Holland large square baler by a custom operator. Being used to load and stack the bales is a John Deere 5085M. We've been using it for several years now, and I really like using it for handling bales.
What we like to do is keep a couple of different wagons going when hauling, so one can be getting loaded in the field while the other can be getting unloaded back at the farm yard. Being used on the wagons is a John Deere 6300 (I have to give a shout out to my sister for hauling with that rig!!) and a 1995 Chevy.
From the wagons the bales are stacked by skidsteer into a hay shed.

Interestingly you can hear the 7300 idling and the scream of the hydraulics on the loader...over the engine on the 5085. Nice and quiet. Personally, if I had to wait that long to raise and lower the loader, I would have to trade on the spot. Totally capable tractor and operator for this farm. Thanks for the video.

it's nice to see someone on here that knows to keep the load as low as possible. Half the loader videos I see ,people riding around with the loader up in the air! Just waiting break a spindle or at least alot of premature and unnecessary wear on the front end. Not to mention dangerous and looking like a fool

Yeah I always like to keep the loader low. The higher it gets the less control you have!

I wonder how many it would take to lift one of these bales.

I really like it! We used to have a JD 5200, and the 5085M is a huge upgrade in terms of power and drive-ability. Definitely nicer for loader work!

How many large square bales did you make?
@farmgrowncountrystrong
@farmgrowncountrystrong 6 лет назад
I think we had around 150 made that day.

Do you ever stack those big bales 3 high on a trailer?

If we're hauling from farther away we'll put some more in the middle on top, but it makes unloading with the skidsteer on the other end harder.

@ Farm Grown, Country Strong- what are the dimensions of those bales as well as weight?

Can you tell me how many of those large squares can be loaded on a flatbed semi?
@farmgrowncountrystrong
@farmgrowncountrystrong 7 лет назад
Probably around 40 some? We bought a semi load of them once, and I believe it was 45. Three high and three across for I believe 5 rows down the trailer.... The different sized bales change those numbers a lot too.

Thanks for the info, any idea how much the ones you were loading weigh?

Brian Gansereit They were probably weighing about 900 pounds a piece.

Austin Muik You can definitely get some heavy ones! Awhile back the farmer who used to do a lot of custom baling in our area switched to a 3'x4' baler for a year and lost a lot of customers because they couldn't lift that big of bale stacked double. He was back to a 3'x3' for the next year.

FYI: 2011 addendum to he manual requires that the 5000 series have 1500 lb weight or filled tires and wheel weights plus 800 lb weight. You are dancing with that tractor.. try it with some slope.

Actually we do have about 1500 pounds of Rim Guard in the hind tires. I'd definitely want that in any loader tractor we have!
