You should get a sample of that white dirt you were digging in. It may be volcanic ash. And it could be from as far away as Yellowstone or Long Valley California or Colorado mesa.

Had a similar thing happen on a road construction job I was on. The Mack 10 wheeler was too close to the edge of the ditch they were widening out and it almost went over with a full load of gravel. Luckily the guy in the CAT Excavator saw it and used his bucket to hold the truck until they could get a chain on the front of the dump to pull him to safety. Drivers were pissed I was holding them up before the construction site while they rescued the D model Mack. Great video.
