It worked good, they are heavy, but rolling vs lifting/dragging reduces the required power by a great deal. Where it may not work as well would be if the log was pretty irregular, but even then you could do it. I just used the come along, a winch would do it much faster and easier. Mine decided not to work once I got there. I'll be getting another one soon.

And PVC can handle that kinda weight?

@@talkingcargojunkremoval on grass or mulch probably, on concrete I think they would permanently deform or just break. So far I’ve been using 2-3 inch oak logs for rollers/skids for moving logs.

Indeed, I'm excited about the lumber. Hopefully it dries flat, I'm milling it to 5/4 which is fairly thin for boards that wide. It's a dead standing tree so I'm hoping that the boards don't cup. We'll see.

I'm sure, a few years ago my area had a lot of downed trees and I was luck to get a lot then, one being some really nice walnut, all at no cost.

I'm just starting with this, should I always put something on top of it?

It wasn't too bad, just a few skid marks! I'd rather put down a little grass seed than handle the logs. Free for me but a lot less effort for them. Thanks for watching.

The strap goes over the log and back under and is attached to the trailer, it's just rolling it up the ramps.

I have one but it didn't work once I got there, it's good to have a back up, the come along can do some good work, just takes a little longer, but not that hard.

IF YA HAD A FORD ALL WOULD NEED TO DO IS HIT THE BRAKES AND THOSE TOOTHPICKS WOULD FLIP OVER THE TOP OF THE TRUCK AND LAND IN A NICE PILE OF COURSE NOT TO HARD ON THE BRAKES OTHERWISE YOU COULD END UP WITH KINDLING. HA HAVE A NICE DAY.

Sounds like we are in the same boat, I've had my "project" for 15 years now but I'm planning on getting it together soon hopefully to enjoy it a little this fall......but I've been saying that for 15 years.

If the bark stays on it gives a place for the bugs to easily tunnel under, eating all the soft inner bark. Usually the inside is solid.

Not sure which comments you read but yes, I've seen his log arch as well as many others on RU-vid and around the web. I may end up making one, but would like it to be able to come off. I'm using the trailer for more than logs so it would be in the way for certain tasks. Rolling the logs up the ramp is very easy and for what ever reason the way I'd prefer do it. I like that the weight is not suspended and the tension is less on the cable. My plan is to make the current ramps removable and able to be placed on either side of the trailer as well, so that they can be positioned wherever needed. For long logs the sides would be a better to approach it from. And if the log is irregular, the winch I plan on getting will just drag the log up. Regardless of what I'll do, you'll be able to see which route I go in future videos.

I'm not going to say there's a bunch, but there's plenty of people that mill lumber in my area. The particular guy that mills for me isn't really in the business of doing it for others but has a select few people he will mill for. Luckily I'm one of them.

The blanket gives a little protection in case something breaks or comes loose. Even rolling the logs up like this there is a lot of tension on the winch cable, chain and strap around the log. If the strap broke for example, the chain could come back and hit me, the blanket would just slow it down. This is important especially if you are directly in line with the cable. That's why I rigged everything to put me to the side of the trailer, out of the way.

I saw them on the side of the road, and knocked on the door. No one answered so I looked up the owner on city records. Once I had their name, I looked them up online, ended up getting in touch with them on Facebook. They said I could take what I want. I did not cut the tree down, I just got the 3 logs. Most average people are not going to worry about money for the logs, they just want them gone. As far as the lawn, it really wasn't that bad. It was just 3 skid marks, a little grass seed this time of the year it will be back to normal in a few weeks. As long as you don't wreck the place, most people would rather throw a little seed down than deal with the wood. In this case, it was a take what you want situation, some people will want you to take it all. You just have to weigh it out and decide whether its worth it.

In this case, yes. I pick up stuff when it goes on sale, for example the straps where $10 each, the chain was $20, the come along $20. Some things are nice to have a nice brand, others don't matter. I like trying out the less expensive options and these pass my test.......so far! Thanks for watching.

What's that red ratcheting strap-down type thing? Also, where'd you even find the lumber, just throw a craigslist ad up or something?

Its a chain binder. I just saw the logs in a yard while driving. I just asked for it and they said yes. It's not uncommon. If you have a way to get the logs, you'll end up with more than you need and never spend a dime.

I just took the title to the DMV and put it into my name. Just put something on it that looks like fenders then take them off after if you want. I like not having them, just one more thing in the way that can get messed up.

It's in case something comes loose or breaks, a chain or cable gets pretty dangerous under tension. The smaller logs just were not worth it to me...I have a wood problem.

In case something comes loose or snaps, it keeps it from hitting you. The blanket will take the force out pretty quick. It's used the same way when winch cars, pretty standard. Heavy tension is really dangerous, especially with big stuff.

It varies from person to person, my guy gives me a friend price. Some people charge by the hour, some by the board foot. By the hour, I've seen prices around $50 per hour, with a minimum 2 hours and a set up fee. So your looking at at least a couple hundred for someone to come to you with a portable mill. Prices per board foot range widely. I think somewhere around .40 cents give or take is normal to mill....but I'm not sure on that. Again, I'm getting a friendly deal. Just look up people with portable mills in your area and call them.

OK thanks a lot. I think that is reasonable if you take a nice amount of wood it is defiantly cheaper than buying it in the store.
