over 20 years of Bark has add up into one large pile that has to be moved and we have2 1/2 days to make it happen. #loggerwade #axmen #dirtperfect #volvo
And that's why bags of landscaping bark are so expensive at Lowes , Home Depot or your local nurseries. By the time it got to that mountain it had already been moved 2 or 3 times? I know it would make more work, but if it could be stacked in rows instead of a giant mountain , so it could be turned over maybe once a year, it would speed up the aerobic and anaerobic decomposition time. Most of that mountain would already be back to topsoil and ready to sell in the 20 years it was being stockpiled. I don't want to tell Wade his business, but I would like to see him be able to make some money off of his waste.
That would be a loooooong day just swinging material all day. But, on the bright side, you did have Wade there for awhile for entertainment. Stay safe brother.
I agree with some of the comments. As you get back farther in the pile, the HOT dirt would be prime for screening. You even mentioned they were going to use the stuff where they are dumping as a topsoil. That would be a great source of exra income for them. just my humble opinion
I don't know what screened topsoil makes in USA but for cost of transport etc I would say profit margins would not be high would make more sense to do what they already
Enough with the gardner "if you could only; flip, mix, mulch, bag, sack, stack and sell at lowes" comments about the freakin bark. This is Dirt Perfect not Bark Perfect. Good discussion on productivity at 12:45. This is what the operation should be focused on,.. moving dirt,... er bark,... perfectly at optimum efficiency. 😉
It would be interesting to see a semi-transparent overlay of a before shot on top of the finished one. You guys moved a lot o material in one day and I couldn't help but think of the ooooold day and how many wheelbarrows that would be?! Thanks for sharing your time with all of us. :-)
Tell Let’s Dig18 he will have another screening job in a few years. You hauled a big chunk out of there. Does Logger Wade haul to his own sawmill or to others too? It looks like you could put side boards on Tiny. Does it have pockets or does it just look that way. You guys were already efficient though.
I’m super glad you broke down about smaller equipment and efficiency. In my neck of the woods ( west Texas ) I do mechanical grubbing with a Skid steer. Our old farmers think you need a 200 series track hoe(to grub) and a D 6 to rake ( both 130-150 per hour), I run 75 per hour and usually come in 12 to 1800 less than the big boys doing the same job. I grub a little bit slower but I can rake a 6 mph. With the equipment nowadays power is there I have an old d4, and my skid steer weighs the same and has almost double the horse power but a multitude of attachments. Bigger isn’t always better.
Someday that pile of bark will be very good topsoil. I would rather see it handled this way rather than trying to burn it and pollution increase. Thank You for the excellent videos you put out. You don't know how much the cost unless you have experience of operating a business. There are more base cost than you know without experience.
That's a big pile of bark, but it'll be excellent topsoil after it breaks down. I'd bet that steaming bark stunk like an outhouse. Logger Wade is a hoot. Lol.
Wayne Crews I had a Coca Cola addiction at one time in my life I know what it’s like lol. Quit drinking it cold turkey never touched it since. Pepsi gave me the worst headache something in it.
The right tool for the job! People can argue what it is. But, when it goes smoothly and there are no breakdowns you’ve optimized productivity. If you’ve been in a well designed and operated production environment, you know when you have the right tools. For that operation, loading trucks was production. Waiting on trucks would be downtime if you weren’t doing necessary prep to the worksite while waiting. (Theory of Constraints... the trucks were the bottleneck... but we’re a useful one.) Looked to me that you had just the right Men, Machines, Methods & Materials for the job. I enjoyed watching the process mix!
Suprising he is not selling it now. Bark mulch compost is worth money. If it was turned over ever once in a while it would be composting much faster.. stuff at the bottom is getting limited oxygen. Hell somewhat surprised it hasn't caught on fire with all the heat it develops.
Our MX 285 burns around 8-10 gall/hr. Just planting. Our combines have old cats in them and burn 10-16 gall/hr. So .8 would be nothing, that's pretty good.
Why not had a tub grinder about 2/3 of that pile would be processed and sold it to a distributor I just saw a tub grinder 2001 for $55,000 or let a distributor bring there's and process it and be gone
I don't see why the company doesn't sell the sources bark, it can be used to craft all sorts of wall coverings for commercial and residential buildings, including laminates, paneling and shingles. And a lot more, dumping it in a field is wastefull.
Millions of $$$$ of mulch and bark nuggets. only thing that is needed is different colors of Dye. or weed control for gardens. bag it up and haul it out.
That's a lot of bark to move, just for fun try to figure out how many buckets it works out to. Mike not to question your math but .8 gph is pretty good are you sure you're not out 1 decimal point. Just for a comparison my pickup gets aprox 20 mpg now if I drove for an hr at 60 I would use 3 gallons in that hr. That would be 2.2 gallons more an hr then the 140, if these new machine's are that fuel efficient we are getting ripped off with the new trucks.
Love the variety of work! BTW what shades do you find work best for you? 😎 I am a good bit older than you and have had light sensitivity problems my whole adult life. I like to know what works best for other people. Thanks for the interesting videos. 👍
BLAIR WHITE im not mike, but i do a lot of outdoor stuff(landscaping, animals, garden etc. ) i have a pair of cocoons that fit over my prescription glasses. These have the side pieces with a window, so i can use my peripheral vision when I’m working
Looks like very salable product there in the core of that pile. Surprised they hadn't lined up a buyer. Oh well, It's still there I guess. Gotta ask. Dose rocking that excavator all day long wear you out? I'v run a loader on snow and I'm done after about 18 hours. That seems a little more busy. Great work as usual BTW. Roll On.
Mike that's a huge pile of bark and considering how much you moved in the first day, you will finish it all in 2.5 days. Love the videos keep them coming. Watching from Perth Western Australia-- down under😜👍
when talking about bigger machines/more trucks you did good job explaining. however I would fine tune that a bit and say what is most efficient manner to get job done. efficient is not just the fastest manner but is a mixture of speed, equipment costs, etc. the 2 trucks with this excavator looked ot be the most efficient way to get the job done.
I WATCHED LOGGER WADE REBUILDIN A REAREND FOR ONE OF HIS TRUCKS, THE REALLY ODD THING ABOUT IT WAS HE HAD 5 BOLTS IN MIT AND IT HAD 6 HOLES FOR BOLTS, STARTED OFF WITH IT OUT OF BALANCE, JUST DONT UNDERSTAND DOIN THAT, GUESS HE NEEDED TO CUT SOME WEIGHT, LOL
Wow that was a good day. You are always trying to be efficient i know its your job but sometimes you just gotta deal with situation in hand. Great video. Stay safe
Great to see you with your other family. It always seems that big daddy and family treats everyone like family and there's always things to be done if the pocket book allows. Just surprised they didn't screen what they had for the dirt? Another money stream I'm sure they could use
All that lovel dirt mixed into it going to waste, it's a shame that guy doesn't cut it down fine and build it up for a few years and screen it for awesome soil
Question is, when's the train horn / quarry horn coming for the 140? ....... I think Kleeman is louder than what it is at the minute... Wade definitely 😂😂😂
history channel, ax men season 10.heres link to it on amazon prime if you don't have cable/sat subscriptionwww.amazon.com/Back-to-the-Woods/dp/B07V6KX41D/
Nice work! Just a question.. why do you put more load on the truck when you have the dumper waiting? The only reason I can think of is to make the video more intresting. Thanks ;)
Before you said it was really hot on top of that pile, I was thinking the same thing. I was watching all that steam rise. Actually, I think that it would have degraded faster if they would turn it. It gives all the bacteria, etc, more air in the middle of the pile and they can work better. Of course, they are not in the business of making dirt, so what they are doing now makes more sense. I didn't realize that those machines used that little gas. I can burn 5-6 gallons an hour in my 3/4 ton pickup. So, 3/4 gallon/hour would be really sweet in my truck. Thanks for the always excellent content. I really appreciate your time and effort.
Tell Wade he needs some sideboards for Tiny when he's hauling this light stuff .lol. Plus that dozer blade keeps coming in handy the more you run the machine
On a question for you, how big is the fuel tank on the 140? With my big interest being long range boats, .8 gallons per hour at 8 knots ( 10 miles per hours roughly ) tank size is a massive factor. a 2000 mile trip between fuelling points at .8 gallons per hour would need 2,500 gallon tank. ( and take 200 hours to complete )
here in the UK you need a licence to dump any kind of waste and you have to get it inspected periodically and pay the government so much per ton dumped even on your own land
david mccullough and thats one of the reasons we live inAmerica. Short of doing very illegal things(like growing illegal substances in certain states) you can do pretty much what you want with your land.
Great video, I only stopped it once to get a fresh coffee. It is amazing when you get back into the old part of the pile the heat being generated as it decomposses.
I have been watching Letsdig18 screen a bunch of rotten wood for top soil. They should be able to get a lot of high grade top soil out of all that you moved in this video.
It’s more sawdust mixed in on letsdig18. The reason I say that is I have a sawmill myself and a lot of people come and want to get my old sawdust for topsoil mine has little bit of trashed mixed in since not screened. Old sawdust makes perfect topsoil. The bark that is being loaded on here could be ground up for mulch though!
