Hey will, just out of curiosity, what would a .577/450 rifle be good for hunting? Bison or like medium sized game? I know it was used by the British in late 1800s war, but didn't know if it was good for big game animals.i guess what i am asking is, was/is it a good round for big game?
They were used for animals up to and including elephants, but we're best on large, thinner skinned critters. I've read this cartridge was a favorite of lion and tiger hunters. Battlefield Curator has a video where we tested penetration of pine planks.
