Did you know that having LCIS increases your risk of getting breast cancer?
In this video, I'll tell you what Lobular Carcinoma in Situ is, how it's treated and why Pleomorphic LCIS is different.
I'm Dr Liz O'Riordan. I'm a breast surgeon who's had breast cancer twice. I'll be posting a video about lobular breast cancer in the next couple of weeks, but if you want to find out more about breast cancer, everything you need to know is in my book - The Complete Guide to Breast Cancer - buy it here:

I understand your situation. I also got ILC in 2020. I had an MRI of BOTH breasts (cancer found on ultrasound after I felt a “thickening”) before I decided which surgery to have. I demanded it. Now I have an MRI every year in addition to a mammogram. It’s the only way I feel relatively safe, as far as a local recurrence is concerned. If it would give you peace of mind advocate for a yearly MRI! I would also like it explained to me why Lobular BC is said to go more often to BOTH breasts. Good luck with your treatments❤

We don’t really know why it’s more likely to go to both breasts

I’m confused on how ILC presents to the patient? I’ve heard you can’t feel it. Is there pain? What would lead someone to the Dr?

the most recent research shows that Tamoxifen is not to be used for Lobular but nonsteroidal AI

I was diagnosed with lobular breastcancer of the left breast in february and had a lumpectomy and sn surgery in march. I started taking Tamoxifen last week. I Will have 15 radiation treatments starting in two weeks. I am now sleepless over the fact that only my left breast was tomografed , both checked with ultrasound which is how the radiologist detected the “lump” . My surgeon says she can promise me that my right breast is cancer free. Everything I read about lobular cancer says that she cannot make such promises, should I take her word and wait until next year for my annual scan (mammogram plus ultrasound since there is a family history ) or pursue the matter ? I know my “attic” is full of cancer ghosts right now and I have started meeting a professional for help with that. I cannot let the thought go though and have a hard time believing that they want to wait a full year until they examine me again. Sorry If this is an inappropriate question, feel free to erase it in that case.

I can’t give personal advice but a lumpectomy and radiotherapy gives the same result as a mastectomy and both are safe options for lobular cancer as long as the margins are free
