In all honesty, after living there, from I seen, most people don’t understand that these locals and especially Native Hawaiians, Kanaka Maoli, are taught their culture, history, and heritage just like US citizens are taught about the Civil War, and all of our history and stuff. Now you get tourist overstepping all the time, and sometimes even breaking in desecrating what locals know to be pretty much holy(sacred).
Please stop with this propaganda. The VAST majority of tourists are extremely respectful. Especially Japanese tourist from Japan. Yes, there are tourists who definitely disrespect the land and the environment, but there are also locals (including Hawaiians) who also disrespect the land and the environment. I go fishing all the time, and all the time I see locals leaving an entanglement of fishing line behind, plastic bags, rubbish, plastic lures, etc. I used to live by a public park. Every weekend, locals would cruise at the park, smoke weed and hang out. The next day, get beer bottles all over the grass, empty food containers and potato chip bags strewn all around the place, etc. These AIN'T TOURISTS who are leaving this trash behind. Bottom line: Get both disrespectful tourist AND disrespectful locals. And also get respectful tourists and respectful locals.
@@user-sg8kq7ii3yyep but they use the few bad as a way to justify hatred towards all of them, even if you live their and don’t look Hawaiian they will treat you like crap, funny thing is alot of the people claiming to be native only got a drop of Hawaiian in them
@user-sg8kq7ii3yThank you & you couldnt have said it any better. I'm from Hawaii (Kailua Oahu), worked in tourism in both Waikiki & Ko Olina & have never ever encountered a disrespectful tourists in all if my 6 years in tourism. However, I seen plenty of locals acting very territorial thinking that they run & own Hawaii. I'm local born & bred & I dont run & own shit. I just live & work there just like everyone else & do my best to malama my aina.
How’s the guy filming gaslighting the situation. Some many people treat our home like a theme park where they can do whatever they please, leave a mess and then go home. All we ask for is people to respect the land and our home, because they have a home they can go back to while our home was invaded and turned into a tourist attraction.
It's a beautiful state. It will aways be on my bucket list but I'm getting up so I my not get to visit 😢 Always, keep your traditions. Dont be like the states disrespectful Easter is now called inclusion day. Keep your traditions. God Bless Hawaiians ❤
This is true for any location that draws visitors in the US. We need to push back on the bad actors and enforce positive social norms and respect for these special places and the culture and life of the people living there. So very true. Most would agree but we all need to work together and there’s power in numbers. What I will say though, is there needs to be local leadership to spell out a few, simple rules that can easily be communicated to visitors when they arrive. Idk, maybe a pamphlet that can be handed out with coupons for local businesses and the educational sections in the pamphlet that that explains good tips on how to behave to preserve, show respect and not be a pest to the locals.
Hey recording dude. The Hawaiian in this video is blocking the driver because the person driving is not allowed in that area Hense private property no trespassing. Kapu implies that the area is off limits it’s forbidden to you and sacred. This man is protecting the local law in that area.
Should create local non profit groups for monitoring all the places we decide that is critical to our aina.....tourists should pay to visit these sites
If tourists / visitors can't access it then no one should be able to access it. Hawaii benefits from federal taxes like every other state, meaning everyone in America pays into it.
@L.Ron.Hoyabembe BUT, this is scared. Somethings should be off limits to preserve its integrity and History. However, I have enjoyed every place I been for the past month.
KAPU. Have some respect. Mainlanders visiting the islands are able to explore many many different hiking trails, and natural adventures. But there are some areas that are sacred, and only locals are allowed. Respect this. KAPU - Do Not Enter.
Aside from this situation, not to go unnoticed, is that there is the most reliable car ever made: 1991-1994 Toyota Tercel. Manual transmission/manual windows with no air conditioning, this little car absolutely cannot be killed. On that island, it has most likely already survived hurricanes, volcano eruptions, big waves, fires, and much much more! ….. ✌️ from Long Beach Ca USA 🇺🇸.
The sign says "KAPU" It means keep out!!!!!! That's why you tourist get cracks, you don't listen!!!!! This is sacred lands & us Hawaiians will fight for it!!!!! Respect our land!!!!
We took your land, easily. We're buying more and more of it as we type. I let no native tell me what to do when I'm enjoying our newest state of Hawaii.
@@nuidabehemoth I’d like to see Hawaii survive without tourism. It’s literally the only thing besides real estate that brings in money. No more pineapple or sugar cane, only selling to rich people who they then begrudge to live there. I think it was shameful what happened to Queen Liliuokalani but that was before any of us here were born. You don’t have to forget the past but anger toward people who’s ancestors you feel have wronged you only hardens your heart filling you with anger and want some sort of retribution. That’s NOT aloha spirit bro

@@Shonuffkicks Are you Native Hawaiian I find it a real interesting culture. However it seams that some of the islands were not friendly with one another.
Used to go to Hawaii quite a bit. Stopped and have not gone in 11 years. Had enough of the locals being really rude to me based on I'm what they call a haole. Made worse by the fact my wife looks local HI.
U honestly met the wrong locals but yea all we need is the money that comes in from tourism but we hate the tourist attitude how they treat and trash our beautiful islands. Let alone the military trashing it for decades. We don't need tourists we need self sustainability.
He should of let Them in, then Them walk over sacred burial places not zoned off yet, then Their touching turtles for the Instagram shot and leaving Their rubbish on the side of the road not to mention They fall down in the lava field and sue the state for no signs. Now the state steps in and blocks it from anyone going down there until a rich developer says " I can improve roads and make a bathroom" proposal to obtain more land to build rich homes.Dats how We loose Our lands!
I’m from Hawaii but I’m not Hawaiian or anything but I can understand the sentiment. There’s a bunch of trails on private property and tourists always clog up residential spaces to get to the trails to a point where fire trucks and ambulances can’t get through. This is a VERY common problem here. And there’s not much the government can really do except put up signs that no one reads.
Who does it belong to then? Hawaii is literally a US territory of you wanna change it then go be a bureaucrat until then Hawaii is US and any American can go wherever in the US.
@@mihirsk5286no you can’t!! You think you can just walk into the White House?! Most likely not. Well we have our places here on the islands that are very sacred to us and while most of them are protected as historical sites…not all of them are. Therefore, we are forced to protect, guard, and regulate these areas/places/sites until they become protected sanctuaries. Just food for thought as entitlement won’t get you far here in Hawaii.
@@mihirsk5286 Your acting like its soooo easy. Im almost pure hawaiian and your wrong. If you been here and seen the trash tourist leave behind is ridiculous. They think we are literally dumb and will never let us locals in office. If you lived here your whole life and knew our history, you wouldnt even comment on this . Go worry about your homeland . Oh wait you dont have native land that was your ancestors being played and takin over by british aka americans ..... Know your history b4 you talk up too much
Yeah tourists arrive with their chests all puffed out doing as they please littering everywhere they go. They seem to think cigarette butts aren’t litter also
Tourists aren't ruining anything. I am almost certain this is the PUBLIC road to Ahihi-Kinau reserve. This is just some jerk who is fed up with tourists and trying to act like he is a big man. Grow up.
@@leafster1337 what's that sign in the background though? We don't have enough information in the video to form a good conclusion. I will say, if it it a federal nature reserve, those are generally open to the public
Tourist come to maui and think that they can go anywhere not know that the state is selling our lands so that tourist can go and swim places were the locals atent able to gather no more its not fair
Funny how Americans use words like "invasion" referring to immigration, wording used to spread hate and paranoia, the irony is that Americans have invaded so many countries/territories, killed millions, bombed millions, supported dictatorships, illegal and brutal medical testing on poor communities in South America, constantly send companies to log down the Amazon and hire mercenaries to scare off native aboriginals, stole millions from Haiti, hold a culture of violence, hate and greed. The irony with this comment is how you compare this to immigration, while knowing your country invaded the islands. I can keep going
I’m very respectful of other countries and their culture. And after hearing about the tragedy in Maui I wouldn’t go unless I knew I was going to be assisting the locals in recovering their land. Not all visitor’s are bad, as a traveler (not a tourist) I try to understand the locals the best I can and even educate myself before I even arrive. Respect the land
I’m from San Diego area! I have gone to Hawaii and loved it but hate being a touristy. I am from a surf town. We have always hated tourists soooo much. When I go places I don’t like to do touristy stuff, just enjoy nature like a local and socialize with the native people and be immersed in culture politely. I’m ethnically ambiguous(black and white) so even the indigenous people didn’t take me for a tourist and actually treated me really well. They are some of the nicest people if you are respectful and interested in the amazing way of life they have. Some even said I should move there as I am the kind of person who really fits in well. I found it much more of a fit for how I am than California. I would only feel comfortable living there if I live in a way that respects the Islands and the indigenous people, as a welcome guest/permanent resident. It is very frustrating when people come from far and wide, but up property making it hard to even afford to live in your home land, pollute and crowd the place.
They were trying to do this at the green sand beach in Kona and was trying to charge 20 a person and they would take you down to the beach. If you didn’t pay them you would walk over 30 minutes down when you can clearly take the road yourself it says on google maps. They are wrong for this and they know it. Also reminds me of New Orleans they tried to make us pay to get into a cemetery
if its their private land they can do as they please. the government doesnt take kindly to rackets. if u could walk somewhere else and access the same stretch of coast, it could be a different beach or you’re trespassing on the same beach
Rental car companies sold their fleet during the pandemic in order to stay afloat, so when tourism opened back up they were forced to supplement cars from residents until they could build their fleet back up, this might be one such vehicle.
You know my voice should be heard! I’m so tired of people not from Hawaii thinking that it is ok to just trespass if Hawaiians can’t do people not from here surely can’t trespass it is so annoying when people not from Hawai’i they don’t know how some Hawaiians are struggling miserably some people not from Hawaii sometimes speed that is what causes car crashes. We can’t deny that people not from Hawaii go to fancy restaurants here it is fun and all but you should go to local places some locals are trying to pay rent, keep the shop going and pay child support so people not from Hawaii please be careful and mindful of what you are doing. ( COMING FROM A HAWAIIAN WHO HAS LIVED HERE HER WHOLE LIFE)!
My husband & I lived on beautiful Maui 35 yrs ago. The airlines & corporations ruined the island. When I was there, there was a short runway at the airport. You had to go to Honolulu first to get to Maui. Once a longer runway was put in the larger planes could do a direct flight & tourists poured on to the Island. It was so nice before that happened. I loved living there.
I went to Maui to support the locals I respected the island and the people..Find the one that do harm to the islands it's not all tourists.go after the government
I went their and respected everyone and still got attacked just for the way I looked, even people who live their like laird hamilton got attacked for the way he looked, they talk about “love and respect” but theirs none of that their, unless you’re part of the tribe
Don't know exactly what's going on here, but as someone who's spent a lot of time in the islands, I can say the worst thing about Hawaii is the Hawaiians.
That's weird because I found them to be the nicest well except for one who yelled in my face and disrespected my dad who was in a wheelchair with dementia and didn't understand what was going on so he was going off on us. I was trying but it's hard when your dealing with a man who has dementia and his last dying wished but other then that all the Hawaiian s I met were super nice. It was the tourists that were a holes. Especially the ones from NY coming in at the plantation pushing his way thru acting like he owned it and when I asked him to calm down and wait his turn he swore every four letter word to me infront of his Lil ones and then flipped me off and I just stood there like.... no wonder tourists are hated so much because guys like this. I was living there at the time so I just turned my cheek from him told him to go home to NY where he belong and me and the local cashier had a good laugh.
Is there a reason he’s blocking the entrance? Do locals not want tourists? They better rethink that stance if so. It’s Maui’s largest source of revenue.
ya, this was in Hana. you should see what the state was doing for Hana during covid...literally military checking you or kicking you out to protect from covid and tourist pollution
Protesting? Literally says no trespassing, you speak very good English, I hope you can also read it Private property, Usually when I see a no trespassing sign I fear for the law but I guess tourist entitlement is more of a concern
@@markettrader911 but still, when he says "protesting" uuh, you parentally need to know more about hana my friend. there is a lot these tourist actually know so little about and then they make these claims like hello, DO YOU ACTUALLY KNOW WHATS HAPPENING HERE, WE BEEN GETTING HURT, we just trying to protect what is left. listen to the locals, and do not make up your own decisions about things you know nothing about
@@OperationHawaiiana I’m white and buying $2.5 million dollar house on Hawaii, I can see Hana from my bedroom and have been there several times. I’m a US citizen and can travel to any public space in America, including Hana, and “locals” can’t do shit about it. Step up to me I’ll beat your ass, or maybe shoot you if you threaten me with weapons. If it wasn’t for America, Hawaii would be ruled by China and Hawaiians would all be dead or enslaved. Locals only? Bite me “Bruda”
.....and maybe you can read but you need to work on your deductive reasoning and realize that sign is BS made-up sh*t that has nothing to do with the gov't. If I stand if front of your house with a "no trespassing" sign and don't let you in, that does not make it legit or right. .
If the Hawaiians don't want tourists while they gladly take government public assistance, then go to Madeira, Portugal. Cheaper, more beautiful, and MUCH more friendly.
What's wild Hawaiians standing up for there rights. The camera guy sounds like he walks around his house with his shoes on dragging shit all over his house! He probably sleeps with his shoes on as well 🤣
It’s not just tourists who trash islands or do this, do that, etc. it’s a lot of the locals as well, but there are bound to be really good people there.. but then again it’s tragic on what is happening there, btw I speak on someone who lives on Hawai’i, not Maui so I wouldn’t understands…
those were their ancestors that had to fight the first wave of tourism. unfortunately, they lost. I understand there's islands like Molokai that are "keep it the way it is". I totally understand....but their ancestors were the ones who let tourism flourish. just saying. and I'm a resident here but at least I understand where their head is at. But, entitlement is different in America. especially now. we dont act entitled when we welcome them to the mainland. we welcome them with open arms.
Before tourism, The Kingdom of Hawai’i was a thriving country. It had trade agreements/treaties with all of the major economic powers of the time. 1893 changed all that…
Yes too all your Toursit who come to Hawai'i. You need understand and learn to repsect the Kanaka Maoli and the Locals. I always see Hoale people always disrespecting public lands such as beaches parks and sight seeing area. Dont come here and disrespect the Aina. fair warning to all if you do so the locals and Kanaka Maoli will give you hard time and they do have that right.
Bra my Braddahs and sistas have been working “hard” to deserve their Aina and now look people across America now coming over here and think they own this place bra
Meanwhile, "locals" brag about beating on haole, and can really be mean disrespectful people. I met a beautiful woman over there but little did I know she had just broken up with her local boyfriend. I was only there one day before the guy punching me in the face, later they ran me off the road and started a fight again, I was super respectful and didn't start any shit with anyone, fortunately, I met some nice people that let me hide in their house until I could rearrange my flight schedule and get the hell off the island. And the locals seem to forget that they import one massive cargo ship loaded full of oil every single day of the year. They love all the benefits of the mainland, but seem to be a bit hypocritical and other areas.
So for all the locals who say they don't want tourist It's simple, All the locals who work in the big corporate hotels stop going to work, Very soon you will have your wish and have Hawaii to yourselves ‼️😉
Reminds me of when we had Covid. No tourists. No traffic. Beaches and roads to ourselves. It was awesome! But luckily I still had my job. It was quite a experience.

It's because tourists go in there and they trashed the place. Same where I live we get people from out of state and they literally dump their garbage everywhere and just leave it.
Give me a break, just because he's brown, doesn't make him kanaka 😂, and since when do tourists drive rusted out Toyota from 1994? Plenty of asians like to pretend they are 100% Hawaiian, and it's getting old.
Why do people in cars let people not in cars block them? You're in a car. I'm not saying plow them over, but just keep inching forward and they'll either walk slowly in front of you until you get where you're going or they'll eventually move. Win-win.
Not everyone moves and sometimes the best option is to do nothing . I’ve seen videos of people who have decided that it’s worth getting run over, and the driver will be the one responsible no matter how obnoxious the other party was. So in my opinion it’s best to call authorities.
U haven't been to hawai'i have u 😂, boi we don't move for shit, we probably move that little car if it has to go that way, n that's da truth, aloha keiki Kane🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
What ill never understand is anyone ever thinking land belongs to anyone. We don’t own anything we just live on the dirt for a while then die. That’s it so enjoy every moment you got and stop bitching about everything. And governments need to stop first lol. We can take them down and replace any time we want
Indigenous people worldwide already had that mantra but thanks to Euro-colonization...Native people have only just adapted to the Euro-colonial mindset. Can't blame the Indigenous for adapting to whiteSociety. You can thank the Europeans for this state of mindset. So now we play the game....
Wow I wonder why thers a protest might be because tourist by land and then rented out two other people 4 maybe $20 a night and we're getting forced out of our homes shocker right 😯👐
Respect for what?? Being a crazy lunatic?? He’s lucky no one with hands caught him that day.. I’m pamunkey native and I don’t do this around my state parks here in Colorado and why?? Because I’d be arrested.. get out of your stupid native feelings 😅
That is an extreme example but you can rent some junk through Turo, as well as good cars. You haven’t lived until you drive on the Road to Hana in an old Altima that needs new suspension and tires.
yeah, we don't rely on tourist money. Typical response. You come here and trash the place. Feeling entitled "oh I paid for this trip so I can do whatever" Don't ever come here. TYPICAL
Being kind here with saying, check out what happened here on the mainland with us with Native American blood. The Government killed oh so many and took our land. Now in more recent, and now, look at the news for what is happening at our borders. These people coming in illegally, taking $ from government, stealing, raping, killing, bringing massive drugs. Multi, multi, multi, thousands of them and the legal people and vets that fought for the U.S., including Hawaii’s freedom, are homeless all over the streets, in weather that is dangerous to be out in. Not saying you should like tourists coming in, but at least they are bringing $ with them, unlike what the mainland is suffering with. Yes, the haole’s more than understand. It is all sad and has been since the beginning of the govt. I am sad for all of us! 😢
