@allforoneandoneforall most of them are, same as napanee. We have theft, violent crimes, public nudity, defecating on people's lawns, drug paraphernalia in our children's parks and the list goes on. Are you seriously saying we should allow this? People breaking the law should be in jail, drug addicts should be in rehab getting the help they need, and the homeless who are homeless because of the housing crisis should be looked after before non Canadians. My grandmother no longer feels safe to go to the pharmacy to get her medication because of a drug addicted person living in a tent by the pharmacy. How is that ok? She's lived here all her life, paying taxes and she's now a prisoner in her own home. Tell me how that's ok?

THAT is a beautiful 'hall' I assume it is the Town Hall. The U-nice States is covered in this sort of thing, sadly Kanada lacks them. Kanada is beginning to look like Mexican villages.....especially the roads. Looking at Trudeau I can well imagine where Canadian's taxes are going.

only cool heads and enlightened minds will have a chance at solving this problem. the consequences of social housing structures need to be taken into account if the Cobourg community wishes to solve this problem of homelessness and encampments. To eliminate good alternate style living is probably not a good idea nor is one single complex a solution either. As a business model non-profits are terribly flawed. the coops seem to have a better survival rate. having the tenants take part of their needs helps control the lethargy housing projects can create. there is no question a problem exists and work needs to be done.

I was shocked 2 weeks ago visiting my Ma who lives in Port Hope to see the amount of homeless, public drug use, drinking, etc. in both Cobourg and Port Hope. I felt like I was back in Downtown Toronto. Absolutely wild whats happening in these 2 beautiful towns.

Bruh look up Cobourg home prices. This place used to be an absolute backwater, and now you can't get anything under $600k. Ontario is now reserved for the rich, even in the north. You can thank Trudeau and his rich friends for the money printing, relentless immigration and taxes that are driving people into despair, addiction and homelessness.

@@allforoneandoneforall Since 2020 the Bank of Canada, acting at the behest of the federal liberal government, printed well over 30% of the dollars in circulation and injected them into the economy by way of "quantitative easing," a pretty word for funnelling dollars into industry, leaders of which are taking home record paychecks. Since 2020, facilitated by federal liberal government policy, Canada added over 3 million immigrants (+8%) to the population (and guess in which regions most of them choose to reside), the majority of whom are low-wage earners. Now it's your job to piece together how increasing the dollar supply and importing low-wage foreign labour inflates asset prices and creates wage stagnation (thus increasing the wealth of asset holders and decreasing the wealth of non-asset holders, i.e. increases the wealth gap) and puts a strain on tax-funded services. I'm not even going to get into the various tax hikes this government is responsible for. Yes, the macro-processes at work have been slowly burning for decades but the LPC poured gasoline on it. Damning an entire generation in the span of 2 years.

Tamara, have you heard that a minor (16) recently overdosed. She was revived. The minors mother lives there. The mother has not raised her or had any custody rights to her. Her Grandparents have raised her in a wonderful home with all the opportunities she would need. The grandparents have gone to every level to keep her out of the encampment. The police will not help. The security will not help. The town won’t help. Nobody will help. She is still a child/youth.

I spoke to the mayor of colborne about this. I asked her how much the building cost she told me 1.2 million i believe it was over 2 million. I asked her how much it was going to cost to renovate it because apparently it needed updates to be to code. She sd she didnt know . I asked her what services was going to be provided she sd she didnt know. I asked her what barrier level the residents would be she sd she didnt know. I asked her who would be running this shelter she sd she didnt know. I asked her if shed spoken to the neighbors of this building that was surrounding it she sd no. I ssked her if shed spoken to the police in cobourg about problems with the encamped she sd no. I sd so you still voted for it she sd yes. In my opinion that wasnt just incompetent it was totally unprofessional. She was in my opinion very smug about it. So i wondered and am still wondering what does she have to gain by this anything? Question. Whats in it for her that she knew nothing about what she was so enthusiastic about im still wondering WHY she would vote for and be so adamant about something she apparently from her answers knew nothing about? Maybe she could tell us

I remember travelling to Port Hope, Coburg and Grafton to visit my childhood friends that moved from Toronto over the years and that regions was so beautiful with fresh air. Safe drug supply, legalize hard drugs, revolving door system for criminals and so much more is a big part of the problem. We pay higher taxes which are used to fund wars and other horrible programs and they have removed programs to actually help people with their problems. Relocate the encampments to the property of those have live in high end estates and do nothing to fix the problem. Stop paying taxes, spending your money with companies that are part of the problem as well.

Wow, I grew up in this town and it's a shame to see how far down hill it's gone in such little time. A decade ago, the neighboring town Port Hope was considered to be the less desirable place to live and now it's the complete opposite.
