This is a TV bandscan taken April 21, 2017 in Tampa, Hernando, Sarasota, and Clearwater. It is posted here for nonprofit educational purposes only.
Stations included: WTSP-4, W05C0, WFLA, WTSP, WTVT, WEDU, WPDS-LD, W15CM-D, WSVT-LD, WMOR, WARP-CD, WCLF, WWSB, WVEA, WXAX-CA, W26DP-D, WTAM-LD, WFTS, WTTA, WUSF, WSPF-CD, WSNN-LD, W40CU-D, WXPX, W43CE-D, WTOG, WTBT-LD, WFTT, WYKE-CD, WZRA-CD, WRMD-CD
Note that the maps point to transmitter sites, which may be different from the city of license shown under the call letters.

W05CO is still on, airing the same error message, as of Aug 4, 2018... more than a year later. Really, who's paying these bills?

Oh. W05CO really seems abandoned to its fate. I guess nobody watches them and a transmitter failure would not be repaired. The "Scrambled or bad channel" screen reminds me of various local channels here in Italy. Many of them rebroadcast other channels in their multiplexes, often using nothing more than a DVB-T/satellite box.

A lot of these PBS stations are selling their licenses off, we might not see PBS that much anymore. I think Flint's PBS cashed out on the auction, and now this one.

@@FloridaTVDX I was living in Spring Hill during the '98 fire season. We went down to St. Petersburg for a few days that summer and I can remember the smog which converged on the city from all the fires burning throughout the state. And, that was just a few months after the derecho which traversed the peninsula and prompted the tornado outbreak around Kissimmee. Hopefully, Florida doesn't have to go through another stretch like that. (The Sunshine State is going through too much as it is.) But, with everything going on in more recent years, only time will tell.

There is another "in-market" duplicate affiliate (outside of WWSB, WOTV, and WMUR), it's KLEW-TV. It's a CBS affiliate out of Lewiston, ID, part of the Spokane DMA. Spokane's CBS affiliate is KREM.

KLEW is a semi-satellite of other CBS affiliates and not independently owned/operated. (Several of these still exist.) It is still duplicate in a sense, since the primary station is outside the DMA.

I remember watching Lawrence Welk on Channel 16 on Saturday evenings. The Bay area would have been better off had some of the religious stations which glut the market had signed off.

Dosen't CBS still have KBTX and KWTX?

KBTX is a semi-satellite of KWTX. Also, ABC has KLKN and KHGI in Lincoln/Hastings/Kearney, NE (until recently, only CBS had one affiliate; for NBC and FOX, the Hastings/Kearney half had their own affiliates while Lincoln got the Omaha affiliates).

There are many gimmicks that local news utilize to make the viewer believe that their news is faster and up to date. Breaking news is sometimes a dumpster fire.

You're right about that. Ultimately, however, I also think that having the newscasts originate from the newsroom may be a cost-saving move as they wouldn't be using an actual studio. Of course, many stations did this during the '70's. So, it's not exactly a new idea.
