The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the international community's flagship for social, economic and environmental welfare over the next several years. If they are to mean anything and if the world is to come anywhere near achieving them, they must be translated into solid benefits for communities in all countries.
As all sectors are involved in this, the result is a complex process of aligning the priorities and interests - not only of international bodies, funders, government and NPOs at all levels from international to local but of people at the sharp end.
This webinar explored some of the following questions:
How effective has this alignment process been and what are the challenges?
Has 'SDG language' been confined to the rhetoric of the development sector or has it found an echo in the work and needs of local organisations and communities?
Have the interests of people and communities been sufficiently recognised or have the priorities of funders and politicians been allowed to predominate?
What achievements of local welfare and sustainability have the SDGs helped to produce and what are the best ways to make this happen?
