I like your methodical approach to the problem. You described how you were going to use soapy water to find the leak. Instead of assuming the problem miraculously cured itself when the soapy water didn’t give you the results you expected, you decided to replace the Teflon tape on all the fittings and in the process discovered the crack in the extension. Well done! Another lesson in this is the importance of not over torquing a pipe fitting. That’s probably what led to the crack in the first place. Isn’t hindsight wonderful? I feel SO smart!
