The first round of the official 'tour' booked with Golf Asian
It's a short par 71 of 5600 yards due to holes 10 and 18 being redesigned and shortened by some distance.
When looking at the length of course I play over this 3 week holiday you have to remember that your drive goes splat. It's very rare to get some run out in Thailand on it's soggy fairways.
I've left a lot of caddy chat in so you an enjoy the full experience of having a caddy.

Great caddy, massive help when she has good English and fun

I booked her another 2 times. We had so many laughs all the way round. She was brilliant on the greens and taught me so much. I even think she was better than caddie 009 at Leam Chabang and she is brilliant.

You hit the ball well Simon and we always play better with a good caddie sure ,their advise is usually spot on .Beautiful Thailand and their golf courses. That's why I have lived here with my wonderful Thai wife for more than 10years now . Look forward to part 2 cheers Nads

Nads, if my life was different I may well be there with you. I'm 57 so I could be in a position to pull the plug on the job and get that visa. Not going to happen though without a lottery win. Good caddies make your day complete, great company, great humour and much better scoring.

The caddies make your day, or sometimes break it! I played 14 rounds and had one caddy who didn't seem to know her own course. You will see me shoot a very big number that day. I love it. I love the people and their humour. I love the cheapness of everything. Eating out for less than £10. The whole experience. They say that nobody goes to Thailand once. I've been 10 times now and all I want to do is work hard and save up to go again. At home every time I think of buying something I think instead I should put that money to the next trip.

No choice out there Neil. Really fun though. A companion for 4 hours. Not all are good 'caddies' as such. They aren't PGA Tour material but still very helpful.

Every morning I get up Kev it feels better. I've had the butterfly stitches off and all the wounds are closed. Still aches as it's bruised to hell but I might be able to put a club in my hand in 3 weeks or so. All those lessons through the winter paid off, I do shoot some poor rounds on this trip but that's normal for Thailand. You will have a day in the water and the jungle at some point. Especially 14 rounds in 19 days. Cheers

Awesome Simon! Course is absolutely beautiful. Really like hole 9 with the 🌴 line. Nice eagle opportunity out there and a load of pars! Waddaplaya! Don't forget to plant those feathers. Looking forward to the back 9.

I think they have 1100 palm trees on that course but it looked like more. A short course and soft in places so a bad drive couldn't run into the trees. It does help if you are off line for the ball to go splat. I loved it so much I played there 3 times and booked Minney each time. Wait for the third round - it's rather special. I didn't see a single feather to plant despite hearing birds everywhere.

Courses are pricey compared to Pattaya. I’m not saying Pattaya is better just comparing. Played Pattaya country club 900b GF/Cart/Caddy on aTuesday and Navy course (which is excellent) on a Friday 1100b. Lab Chebang was 1900b which as you know is wonderful. Agree on the playing further forward.. 6200 yards feels like 7000 yards. This course looks wonderful. Hua Hin in January for 5 days golf and another 16 days in Pattaya. Next one for you has to be vlogs on Pattaya courses.

I can't afford Phuket in normal times, everything is so expensive. I stayed at the Hilton for half price. Thankfully Golf Asian passed those savings on so I didn't get ripped off. It allowed me to play a couple more rounds and buy far too many shirts. Both my sons have taken up golf so I took them 5 each from the discount rail. Got to love the discount rail. In Pattaya I tend to play a little further forward, maybe 6200 but there is no point playing 6800 and bascially ruining your holiday by never getting near your handicap. My only good point is I'm reasonably straight so don't get in a whole lot of trouble. I've heard the Pattaya courses are very cheap right now. Guys not booking and just turning up and having cheeky offers accepted. I hope it lasts! I've not been to Hua Hin yet, it is on the list. If I come out for 3 weeks next time I'll have 2 at Patts and then a week elsewhere. Or maybe get 1 week in at Hua Hin first and then off to Patts. Got to play Black Mountain once in my life. Cheers

Now that's more like what I expected - both the scenery, the course, oh, and yes, your golf!!! Well done, that was a great front 9. I'm looking forward to watching the other 9 next, ably guided by the enthusiastic Minnie! It's so nice to see a resort course with the option of playing from forward tees. When I'm on holiday, I don't want to play a course that's approaching 7000 yards, I want something that is about 6000 yards, where I'm not hitting 3-wood for every second shot into the par 4's, so that course, from those tees, looks ideal. The condition of the course was so much better than the previous course too! I hope that you are recuperating well, and not driving the missus mad???!!! I enjoyed St Pierre, the Championship course less so as my hip played up, so I was only able to limp round. It's hard to play decent golf when you're scared of putting too much weight on your left side!!! Thank you though for your advice, which was very helpful! I, sensibly, succumbed to a buggy for the Mathern course, and enjoyed that far more, consequently. A good trip though, and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Hi Neville, it's nice to play a course within your comfort zone. The ball couldn't roll into trouble as it went splat most of the time and with the work I did with Matt before going out there I was on form. The greens didn't have a lot of grain on them so didn't scare me. Red Mountain scared the pants off me. Different grass. Minnie was so good I played 3 rounds there and booked her every time. We had so much fun. The course had Blue and Black tees behind me, I'm on holiday, I'm over heated, I'm struggling to think straight so I'm playing forward. Who wants to go on holiday and shoot double their handicap? Seems a little stupid to me. "Did you have a good time?" - Nope, I never broke 100. What would be the point of that???
@nevillehubbard7347

@@thehairygolfer exactly!!! I never understand why my mates always want to play on the hardest courses possible when they're away. Me? I'll play on something short and easy thank you, shoot two under my handicap and enjoy that feeling!!!! I, therefore, don't like the sound of Red Mountain!!!! Minnie sounded great! Fun is what golf, at our level, should be about, and she seemed like she was totally committed to ensuring that your golf was fun, which helped you to play well. That's great!!! Fun golf, that's what we should all be seeking out this year (White tee medal at 07.47 tomorrow - as you may gather, can't wait!!!!!).

@@nevillehubbard7347 On a dry course I am happy to play 6500 yards par 72. On a good day I can manage my handicap on that, on a bad day 5 over my handicap. Out there add dozens of fairway bunkers, water on 14 holes then forget it. I'm playing forward. It's a holiday for goodness sake. We save up all year or even 2 years. We go without our beers or whatever sacrifice we have made to be there. Why crucify ourselves? Move forward. The scenary looks so much better making our pars and nett pars and scoring 33 - 39 stableford than never making 30 points. Enjoy your medal, I might go up the club tomorrow and see if I can walk a few holes with my mates while they play their medal. Back 9 will be off limits for a another few weeks. I'm going to take the kids chipping at the end of the month and help my eldest with his tee shot aiming.

Looking good out there. The roll situation seems similar to playing in the winter. What
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 2 года назад
Hi Gary, helped by a short course and no roll on most holes. Which means your drive doesn't roll into the trees or the water. After a thunderstorm the balls goes nowhere. They plug or just hop out of the plug and you clean and place. It's bizarre playing clean and place when it's 35 degrees. But you get a good 1/2 to 2/3rds extra club on your irons due to the temperature of the golf ball. I could easily get 7 yards more.

How is the transition to the grainy, Bermuda greens? Your lag putting looked pretty spot on, but I've seen/read the difference of putting on it is significant.
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 2 года назад
Hi Mike, not sure what grass Loch Palm was but it wasn't too much of a challenge, it didn't seem to have a whole lot of side grain just up and down. Especially with Minney on the bag to help it didn't frighten me. Some later courses were so confusing my head exploded. Red Mountain scared the crap out of me. The others not so much. Phuket Country Club was easy to read too.

Tropical thunderstorms David. March is heading into the rainy season and April/May are the hottest months. November is coming out of the rainy season so still a few thunderstorms but cooler. Thailand can get 3 meters of rain in a year. UK is 885 millimeters by comparison. I've been out there in October which is a wet month and the courses were saturated all the time.

I was told to drive left and faded it on the wind. I didn't think it would make it and when it disappeared I thought I had messed up. It had just gone over the lip and out of my sight. The next time I played I really took it on and pounded it.
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 2 года назад
I forgot to say the recovery is going well Brian thankyou. If I sit for an hour the calf really tightens up and is painful but when I wake up in the morning it feels pretty good. Walking is better if I remember to use my leg properly! My son is now itching to join the club. Secretary is just waiting a little longer to see if some of the members who haven't rejoined yet are actually going to pay their subs. Notices went out on the 20th of Feb to pay by 31st of March. I wouldn't be so generous as there is a waiting list. Give them until the 7th and then they lose their spot.

Some of the shots you can do without using the (inaccurate) shot tracer , see the ball nice and clearly . Where’s the beard?
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 2 года назад
Shot tracer isn't bad for £5.99 but it is inaccurate. I use it for guys who watch on their phone really. It helps a bit. The beard took some time off as it couldn't cope with 35 degrees and 95% + humidity. First time I shaved I almost took my head off though. I was still bleeding on the course! I shouldn't be permitted to use sharp implements!!!!! Thanks for watching, I didn't know you did.
