Lockheed Martin F-35A Fighter Jets Land on Motorway in Finland 

I think the U.S. was trying to prove the F-35A a viable platform for Finland, and landing on roadways is necessary for your defense strategy.

The new thing is these are Norwegian F-35s. Now Norway's 52 F-35s can land on bases in Norway, on bases and roads in Sweden and in Finland. And the airforces from Finland and Sweden can train and land in Norway. Nato is such a force multiplier, now the Nordic countries have a fleet of hundreds of different fighter jets.

There's no denying that... We are stronger together even if someone has tried things first, second or last...

Sweden hasn’t built a 5th gen fighter yet.

@@anon69_q It is not in the Swedish strategy or tactics of the airforce. 5:th generation is stealthy which has it's main advantages in offensive attacks, not so much in a defensive role. Apart from the stealth, the Gripen E are in the top league when it comes to armaments, electronic countermeasure, electronic warfare and awareness!

@@bengtmowitz5012 The best defense is a good offense. Idioms aside, I don’t see your point about offensive vs defensive capability. Air power is inherently offensive. The fighter role is the only “defensive” action an aircraft can take. Being able to attack an opponent before they see you is critical. The decreased RCS and AN/APG-81 gives the F-35 the advantage in this case. Also, the AN/APG-81 objectively has a greater output than the ES-05, so I’m fairly certain the F-35 has the advantage when it comes to EW. On top of that, the F-35 has significantly more accurate radar warning receivers. The F-35 has the better engine. Totally payload depends on whether you want the F-35s stealth capability, but externally the F-35 can carry more that the Gripen. I can go on, but you get the point. The Gripen definitely has its place, but to imply it’s equal to the capability of the F-35 is to ignore the components of these aircraft. Again, the Gripen is a good fighter, but it isn’t a 5th gen fighter (and 5th gen doesn’t start and end at stealth).

No need to worry about the long stretch part. Finland has countless of those as it’s been a part of our defence strategy for about 50 years.

A pioneer... There's F-35B also but these are specifically built planes for different roles... There's not who is winning or losing these "who was first" battles... Capabilities built together are the winning solution.
