A thorough and excellent review as always. But, yet another smart home device with it's own network hub. I think we've officially reached the "this-is-out-of-control-now" level.
That is true, but what my research suggests is that without hubs devices that work on battery run through them pretty quick (as is the case with the August wifi).
Greetings from Torrance! At first it looked like a home run, but there are still a few bugs that need to be addressed. The price is a little too much and the reaction speed a little too slow, especially the motion detect. They packed a lot of stuff into this lock and with a few updates it might be a good fit, but the price is just way too high. Plus I feel its a little too dangerous to open the lock over wifi. Too many ways to hack into the lock, not to mention, what if you lose your phone? This was another fantastic review of something many of us have never seen! You put a lot of work and thought into this. Thanks again for all of your hard work! Always appreciated!
The camera part of the lock still needs to be worked on..software side..I’ll be comparing this with eufys video smart lock in my future videos. Thank you.
@@LifeHackster have you had problems with the hub playing videos! I am! And it’s frustrating as i just got it!…im probably going with the eufy! Good videos you do!
I look forward to that comparison. I have long thought that the Eufy smart lock with wifi is the best smart lock on the market, but a majority of reviews pick other locks such as the August smart lock. I find these type of reviews questionable because user reviews of the August locks on Amazon are hovering at 4.2. Eufy's smart lock and wifi has a 4.5 rating with over 2000 reviews. The August smart lock has over twice as many one star reviews as the Eufy smart lock. The August lock uses expensive batteries and user reviews say that you have to replace them every two months. This alone is a deal breaker for me. User reviews also state that the using the August lock is very buggy and its bluetooth self unlock feature doesn't work consistently. So I don't see why so many websites rate it as the best smart lock. Lockley makes great smart locks and they have a 4.5 rating on Amazon, which is very good. But they don't have all of the features that the Eufy smart locks have. My Eufy smart lock with wifi on my front door is around eight months old and the temperatures at my house have been over 110 degrees F for several days. The lock is subjected to brutal heat and yet it looks like it is brand new. I am so impressed with it so far.
@@aaoaaa They "features" of the two locks are very similar, but there are some differences: 1. Eufy's video lock has excellent 2K video. Lockly has 1080 P. You will see a LOT more detail with the Eufy camera. 2. Eufy allows you to have a cloud subcription for your recordings IF you want it. The lock will record locally by default. 3. The Eufy lock appears to be made of better materials. It is made of a stainless steel/zinc alloy which will not leak. My locks are about eight months old and they look like they are brand new. 4. The Eufy has IP67 weather protection and will operate in freezing temperatures up to 150 degrees F. I live in AZ and we have had 114 degree F temperatures and my locks have operated fine. 5. The Eufy lock works without bugs. Once in a while the fingerprint sensor will take a second or third attempt, but it usually works first time. The Lockly has numerous bugs. 6. The Eufy number pad works very well. 7. The Eufy lock is designed to be very difficult to pick.
@@franklong6269 i have 2 eufy smart locks! There customer service is great! And the quality of the smart lock is very good! Its bank vault grade! Material…Tough!!
@@aaoaaa temperature operation eufy has higher temp operation and lower temp to operate! 2) no hub! Not needed! Everything is built in! 3)bank vault grade material! 4)faster fingerprint sensor
Boy, am I glad I got the Eufy video smart lock instead. It's less expensive, a nicer elegant design, has a hub with a chime, much faster with video and motion sensing activation, etc, etc. It's just objectively better in most every way. I had some minor complaints but nothing like the problems I saw here.
Funny. I am returning my Eufy Video Smart Lock S330 without even opening the box and getting a Lockly Vision Elite. I think the Eufy design is stupid to require the battery to be removed for a few hours every few months. The Eufy's **front** USB-C "emergency" charging port makes little sense. What makes even less sense is why *none* of these units have a built in USB-C port on the inside/back unit to allow spot charging without having to remove the battery. At least the Lockly Vision Elite has a solar panel, which I hope will work well on my South facing no shade door. I agree that the Eufy is probably more polished and has better "performance", but their charging solution seems ridiculously obtuse. It seems like they are polishing a hard to recharge fast turd. Also, my wife really likes Lockly's PIN Genie feature, and you know what "they" say about a happy wife... - Whipped
No door sensor on the eufy unlike the lockly as soon as door shuts the door locks automatically not by time, no solar charging, i returned the eufy and got the lockly
you should do best motion sensor comparison, home assistant stuff, home seer stuff, more routines. youre better than everybody else with quality of content and comparison.
Thank you for the video. One thing I didn’t understand I hope I Can an answer. If I go out to drop the garbage bags and I left the door open. Should it be recording the whole time while I come back and closet ?
/ thank you for your concern, how ever I'm more concerned with the wrong person entering without permission. This is America the land that has more guns 🔫 then its human population 🤷♂️🤣😅. So plz enter @ ur own risk🤪😉🙂😊.
It's slow and buggy being battery powered. Though having the camera on the lock makes it more difficult to steal. My ring flood light cam is virtually instant when I click on notification it opens to live view immediately with no delay. Also having the door closed sensor in the lock rather than a contact sensor you mount on the door is complicated, probably the battery will drain fast unless you have enough direct sunlight to charge it.
Interesting about your striker plate. Deadbolts don't "strike" close like handle/knob bolts, so deadbolts shouldn't have the kind of striker plate that was installed on your door. It is standard for deadbolts to have that slightly stronger kind of [non-striker] plate So, the issue wasn't really with the product, but more that your door had a non-standard deadbolt installation.
Hey there, it's been a year, do you know if they've updated/fixed their bugs? For the price, it sure better beat the competition! It looks promising but.... I'm currently using the Aqara U100 myself, and like it a lot.
Looks like I am buying the bugs with the unit until they are fixed. I like the idea of an all in one feature but it looks like it will be an all day set up and learning of the device before i am satisfied. And there HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY TO ADD SOMETHING TO A STRIKE PLATE AS A SENSOR. Drilling new holes weakens the door connections.
If your old strike plate is aligned correctly, leave it in place, and hold the Lockly strike over the strike hole, drill a pilot hole, then use longer screws!
LifeHackster's deadbolt had a non standard plate. Deadbolts don't need the sloped striker like he had wrongly had installed on his door. Deadbolts use a flat thicker plate standard. Chances are yours will fit fine.
I actually have to revisit Eufy’s smartlock video doorbell and see if the bugs that it had have been ironed out. I’ll be comparing these 2 in my future videos.
I actually thought about getting this but I have a security door I have to go thru before getting to my real door. And what type of security device is that next to the knob? I could use something like that
This will not be a good option if you have a security door or a screened door. A separate video doorbell and smart lock will be a better option. My back door open to the outside ( front door usually inside) and I have to put the metal shield for extra protection.
I like the idea of having a camera and a lock but I don’t want a doorbell camera so make one without the button I like having extra cameras and more places to see my video but if I already have a doorbell camera and I don’t want people getting mixed between that and a video doorbell separately if I already have one
LF, how you doing . Could you pass this down to eufy please ? I currently use the wyze floodlight and it’s terrible ! Too many bugs and unreliable . Terrible pir sensor etc . I would love to switch over to Eufy , but they offer no eufy floodlights with cameras that record 24/7 . Could you pass down to Eufy if they could release a floodlight camera with a camera that records 24/7 please and thank you !
Wow it has a lot of good ideas, but 1080 P resolution is a deal breaker. The advantage of Eufy's 2K resolution cannot be overstated. I do like that this lock has a sensor on the striker to sense when the door is closed. The door chime is another deal breaker. The solar power is brilliant, but the entire lock looks really buggy. One other thing to note is whether this lock is made of rust proof, stainless steel alloy that will stand up to abuse. Eufy's smart lock with wifi is VERY durable and it would be hard to beat it off with a sledge hammer. I hope that Eufy adopts some of these features in its smart lock. Having said that, it appears that Eufy's entire package is better than this lock. The door close sensor and solar charging are innovative features though.
Wow . love your reviews but you left out a HUGE limitation with the product. I just found out after buying it and will be sending it back . Buyer beware . especially if you are buying to use the advertised features with your family. 1. ONLY administrator account can access video and audio feeds. 2. Administrator account can ONLY be installed on 4 devices. So if you have a family of 5 the 5th person cant access the features you paid 500 dollars for. 3. The accounts that can be added for your family will not allow them to access the video and audio feed. unbelievable a lock that costs 500 dollars has such limited user management capabilities.
The question is…how about you? Are you willing to take a chance picking this lock that has a camera on it and notifies the owner of motion events and most likely the house also have multiple cameras? 90 seconds is just enough time for the owner to get the tool they are going to use to probably end your lock picking career.
@@LifeHackster My area is very expensive so home robbery is common. Thieves been jamming WIFI's and robbing the homes. So chances are that the owner would never get alerted at all until after the fact.
This seems like a great all in one option but I would like to see this revisited when it's ready for prime time so it has a fair chance once the bugs are worked out. Thanks for letting us know about this new tech LifeHackster.
True but there is also the eufy which was buggy too when I initially checked it out..but I’ll revisit it and will compare with the LOCKLY in my future videos.
