Lonely nights driving my semi on US 54 between Wichita and Tucumcari, the bright three headlights on the parallel track always made feel better because I wasn't the only one toiling until dawn. Edit: Can I get train horns (I've seen them at Morrill, NE in a box! Not the fake ones!) blaring when I pass to the other side? It would be my honor to know that the power of the locomotive would carry me home.
If you have a good computer, an Xbox One or newer, or a PS4 or newer, you should definitely check out Train Sim World 2. One of their routes is set on the CSX Sand Patch Grade route, if you're familiar. Great video by the way, and happy late Thanksgiving!
Thanks Mike for another great video. Love the night time ones, console all lit up and the lights outside just add to whole experience. Livin my dream through your vids. Lol
Just subscribed and started watching your videos...like them a lot! CSX lines are close to where I like and I love freight trains...keep posting please!
How lame are the six dummies that didn't like this video....I know in order to do this job you have to put your whole life into it.... I could imagine many cold dark nights like this you've had to deal with over your career.... You're an inspiration to all that think they might be able to do this someday
I can't imagine driving a loco at night was fun.... I don't care for driving my car at night. Happy Thanksgiving to you & yours. Thanks for the video too. 🥰
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 yes sir, was wondering why operating at night would be an issue since he isn’t having to steer the train like you would a car. I obviously don’t operate a train but as long as you can see the signals you would be ok.. so yes I was referring to Richards comment. It’s cool I like right where you are going through on most of your videos. I live in Marietta. Cool to see from your perspective since I watch the train come through all the time with my son.. thanks for uploading
Mr. Mike, I am a daily Runner. How do train personnel keep in shape with these hours. If I work 3:30pm-12MN, I run in morning am. If I work 7:30am-4pm, I run in the evening. How do train personnel keep in shape. When do you all eat. Do you all bring food on to the train?. I am very impressed with your videos. Do enjoy your retirement. God Bless 🙌 🙏 .
Mike, ever ran the Abbeville Sub through Athens,Georgia? That sub's been real quiet lately. Back in the day,I used to watch locos stop and take off with monster speed across the Athens trestle over North Avenue! Legend has it that some dude dared an engineer the he could out run that loco side by side across that trestle. And then there's the legendary 'Rail Rotter'. Some unidentified dude who's cursed to walk across the Earth. He decided to walk the rails because he realized he's off the rails. (Dead/Zombie.)
Your welcome mike I love all trains and all kinds of train engines..I own a HO Scale loco yard with sd 60 sd 70mac sd70Ace sd 40 sd45 SD40-2 SD35 sd40E an old GG1 GP60 Gp35 Gp38-2 C40-8 B40-8 9-44cw you know haha all them haha...I'm levein the videos
Those are the cab signals. They are to correspond with the wayside signals. I skipped through the video but, i think they were cut out as we call it. Or temporarily inoperative,
Ride seems a little bit rougher than I expected it to be. Rode commuter trains in Long Island Ny growing up but always in the passenger cars obviously.. didn’t expect the ride in the power to be that rough.
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 I had a teacher make me write a letter to the RR asking to ride in the engine. They said they don’t let people because of insurance but made an exception for me and I got to ride a GP-38 from port Jefferson to Huntington , about a 45 min ride.. was such a cool experience. I got to push a few levers and blow the horn. Time of my life.
Hey man I Love You video I live down here in Savannah Georgia y'all got to CSX y'all right around the corner from me by Amtrak do you ever come to that yard over there and Waycross yard
When you were a engineer Did you ever drive the same engine back to back, or is there 5 to 10 engines that you're usually going to be driving, or is it usually a different engine every time and rarely ever drive the same one again?
It also depends on what job you're running, what end of the line you're on and the availability of power. Like some power will go right back out on the counterpart of train they came in on.
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 that’s cool I work up there all the time .. one time I saw the second engine back all of the sudden go to like full power.. the wheels were throwing insane amount of sparks but the rest of the train was still doing it’s slow creep over the area where the coal is dumped. I had always wondered what happened. Any idea?
Good video Mike! I honestly hope I can be in your shoes one day as of now I’m 18 bout to move on 19 and soon into 20’s lol. What’s it like to hire out?
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 probably was.. what year did you hire out? I’m pretty sure as of now it wouldn’t be great experience as I’ve heard few things
wow you're mainly in not quite snow coming the choo choo to the big a. however for those that run rails and icy winter conditions and if the wipers get all messed up do you have to radio in and say like if you're in your car or truck I need to stop for a minute go wack the wiper so I can see where I'm going? cuz yours are just one person in the locomotive nowadays for like the last 10 years with all the remote stuff going on or was there always still too at the same time engineer/ conductor even on freight lines. who could get out on the catwalk at slower speeds and try to get the windshield cleaned cuz I know it's defrosters can only do so much but when you're in like freezing rain or ice just made me wonder.
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 Well Not literally TRI tracks lol, I meant like South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, csx usually drives on that line along with amtrak
Just one of the many blessings the make up the story of my life God is Good. I didn't do anything didn't even know the RR was hiring a fellow just happened to mention it to me one day on the phone back in 1976.
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 mike,we’re looking for an opportunity on the Railroad in the United States but we don’t know how to get insolved , my dad is a road Driver in kcs in mexico and we’re looking for an opportunity for me. Do you know how to engage in the railways n the United States?
@@valdezgarciajoabisai2983 Joab I am retired and have no current contacts with the RR in that way. You would have to go online and search for railroad job openings and apply online . If you are trying to get into train service the includes conductor and engineer you would need to search for railroads hiring conductor trainees or hiring for engineer trainees. All of this is done online and you have to be patient some years railroads do a lot of hiring and other years it can be slow or not at all, best wishes.
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 ok mike thank you very much for the information I hope to find an opportunity since I am a great fan of trains, greetings
