I was a loose natural for 7 years then decided to loc. You couldn't pay me to go back lol. My hair was literally a job. It took patience that i ran out of. You look cute with either one😍

The maintenance of loose natural hair is why I decided to lock my hair. I just don’t have time or the energy anymore. I will definitely miss the versatility though.

I had locs for 15 yrs loved them, but missed my hair. combed out last year. My scalp told me to comb out. So happy i did. My scalp thx me every day. I luv my curls that are collar bone length dry. Everything is a work in progress when ur alive, so i never mind the maintenance:)

Me sitting in my desk at work sipping water with a head full of locs and watching this video. Guys if you have locs dress the part and put yourself out there don't let your hair hold you back. If you have the credentials they wont care or they'll tell you if its an issue or safety hazard. *If you want some insurance get a retwist before the interview.

Absol-freaking-lutely! I am prior Air Force and went all in with loc'ing my hair when I got out. The first job interview with locs (6th month mark) I was nervous af. I did a retwist and BAM, secured the bag! In life, there is nothing to fear but fear itself!

I've been natural for the past 9 years and off and on before that. I just started my loc journey almost 2 months ago and I'm absolutely in love with them and the simplicity. I was getting tired of doing my hair but I didn't want to straight up big chop for the 36325273 time, so I decided on locs.

I've been a loose natural for about 6 years and I love it. I tried locs earlier this year but my scalp proved to not be cooperative. My scalp couldn't handle the infrequent washes and scalp sores from the water not penetrating the whole area of my head. I'm disappointed that my loc journey ended so suddenly but it just brought me closer to my love of afro and curls. My hair is thriving, thick, and beautiful now. ❤ one love.

Honestly. I had loose natural hair for all of my life. Currently have sisterlocs for 1 year and a month now and it’s one of the best decision I’ve ever made. I feel so free.

I'm in your position now. I've been a loose natural my whole life and have thought about Sisterlocks on and off for 10 years. I am planning to get sisterlocked in February this year but am still trying to watch as many RU-vid videos as possible to make sure I'm positive about the decision.

I’ve been natural for 8 years and started my loc journey 6 months ago. It’s been fun and I had to really self love with such short locs. I got tired of doing my hair and products I had to buy as a loose natural. I was over it and ready for a new journey with myself. I love your video and I’m excited to see your natural hair journey. 💕

Hi Vanessa!! I like how you take us on a new hair journey. I have been natural for over 10 plus years and had started a 2-year loc-journey prior to that. However I was not ready then. Now I have started and embracing my 2nd loc-journey since March or April this year and I feel that this is the right time. Everything comes together perfectly now. So I can relate the other way around. To each her own I say. As long as you feel comfortable and follow your own path all is good🤗😘

Before I start caring for my natural hair like I do now....I was thinking about locking my hair. But ultimately I decided on keeping my hair loose because I want to see my loose natural hair flourish.

I had been a loose natural since 2011. I had my starter locs installed 2 weeks ago today. I’m looking so forward to this new loc journey. I have always been intrigued with locs and finally made the decision to transfer into locs as I’ve done every style known to man as a loose natural. Plus wigs braids and twist along the way. I really want to experience my own hair on my shoulders and back. As a loose natural I was only able to get to shoulder length hair. I feel with locs I have a better chance of reaching length past my shoulders. I’m also over the high maintenance of being a loose natural as well as my penchant for being a product junkie. I’m looking forward to lower maintenance and the aesthetics of locs with length.

Ive been a natural since FEB 2010, after most of my life relaxed. I cant retain length to save my life unless I obsess over my hair and constantly condition, moisturize etc, which feels like a job. Even then I can't retain length. My hair has never grown past my bra. To me its exhausting. I just want to live my life. I went natural to feel free and not live my life around my hair but I feel like I still do and that I just traded relaxers, for tons of products and no length retention. De-tangling is a chore, I have to use a lot of conditioner and more. I'm very low maintenance. I'm getting ready to loc again. I was loc'd for 1 yr in 2015 but I didn't like the size (I asked for small/medium) but they felt to small and thin and I felt like I had to many. Re-twisting took forever and was very frustrating for me, then I got them interlocked and that just made them feel even more thin. But even with that frustration I still loved my locs. I had those locs for a year. It was so easy to have them and that feeling of a fresh retwist was EVERYTHING! I felt cute all the time to! Even when I cut them I told myself and everyone else that I was going to get them again because I loved having them. I'm definitely going to go with larger sized locs (80-100 locs) and I'm probably going to start this 2nd journey with perm loc extensions! (Yeah I like instant gratification! Not going to lie! lol) Just wanted to share my frustration. I wish my natural hair was just easier to care for loose. I did a lot of crochet bohemian goddess locs with jewelry and feathers last year and It was just so ME! I felt so beautiful and wild (in a sexy way) with them and I'm excited to make it a permanent style!

Sad that you cut your locs for being too small/thin. Is there any reason why you didn't just combine them instead to make them larger?

I did the big chop twice. My hair is now to my shoulder. I am ready after the debate and doing EVERYTHING to my hair to loc it. I am doing extensions as well because I do not want to bleach my hair and want a little more length to start. I am excited. I don't think I have ever been excited to loc it.

I had my locs since 2002 and I still love them. Having to deal with my hair out when I was frowning out the perm was just a rollercoaster ride of braids, twist, flat ironing, pony tails..I got sick of it. I’m very basic and don’t make fuss with styles, I wash my own hair and see my stylist every two months. I’m about that shake & go life lol I have no desire to go back. To each is own but I watch my friend pick her locs out and after a few months of trying to figure out what to do, watching her make wigs etc ..she went back to locs lol but still talking about cutting it again... me 🙄 lol

I had locs for 14 years and had to cut them off when I enlisted in the Army. I loved Taliah Waajid Black Earth Collection. I see now that there are products she makes for loose naturals, braids and even people who wear weaves and wigs. I still don't think I can do a weave, but loose natural hair feels really good on some days, but I would be lying if I said I don't miss my waist length locs.

I was loose natural my whole life and never had a perm. I did straighten it a lot with hot combs in middle school. I stopped in high school because my hair got so thin. However I could never get it to grow past my shoulders without it breaking off. My last semester in undergrad I was going to cut it all off and my mom told me to try Sisterlocks (she had hers for 10 years). I got locd almost 2 years ago and I’m really happy with them. Best decision I made.

I combed my locs out because I felt as though I only had them because my family has locs as well. I also had issues keeping my psoriasis under control - so having to wash/retwist on a weekly basis was too much to handle. And having to wash my hair so often made the actual loc’ing process so difficult. I was only loc’d for 3 years, but literally none of my hair was actually loc’d due to what I previously mentioned. Locs really are a major lifestyle change and I hope people take everythinggggg into consideration before loc’ing their hair. I wish I thought it through more; now I’m struggling with figuring it how to keep my now loose natural hair moisturized 🤦🏾‍♀️

I feel like I am the only person who deals with scalp psoriasis and has locs. The struggle is ultra real. The flare ups have been so bad lately that I considered cutting them after 9 years. After some trial and error I realized that I can't use oil based products on my scalp cuz it causes my scalp to flare up. As long as I only have to wash my hair once a month to month and half I am satisfied. But for a min there my psoriasis was popping up a few days after a wash 😬😬

Thank you for your video! I have both loose, natural hair and one braid loc that turned into a loc without me wanting it, but now that I have it I love it. When I had relaxed hair, I was more accepted by the community. However, when I became a natural, I noticed people started to treat me differently. My sister has shoulder length locs and I was considering getting locs over my whole head because I am pretty low maintenance, but seeing your cons is making me reconsider. I like styling my natural hair different ways. Once again, thanks for your video.

I have locs right now. This is my second set - i shaved the first. Now 4 years in, I'm thinking about cutting them again. I'm tired of my hair and went something different/wanna try a different journey. I sort of want to try out the lowcut waves look and cut durags. I figure I can always play with box braids if i want some length/color. But i also feel like i put so much time and commitment into these locs and i don't commit to a lot of things unless I really like it. It definitely is a commitment/accomplishment. I'm trying to not attach myself to hair though and whatever i want to do with my hair, i definitely want simplicity. Which is why whatever i do, I'll probably always come back to locs (or keep my hair in box braids)
