Deputy Shaffer was my classmate in drill school, he was my inspiration and my support system, he believed in me. 3/26/14 we will never forget, but I know I my heart Deputy you made all the right calls, God bless you, I am so proud of you and knowing I had the pleasure to have you as my classmate and now Deputy Chief A/Chief of Operations-Field Services. Thank you 🙏🏾 ❤️

When I lived in Boston, I used to ride-a-long with several companies (including Ladder 26 --sat alongside Lt. Kelley). The day of this incident, I was in Connecticut, where I live. With the wind New England was experiencing, I made a comment to myself, " I wonder how Boston is doing with this weather..." Boy, I sure found out! I went to Lt. Walsh's funeral with East Hartford's dept. They were kind enough to let me onto one of the rented coaches that day to go to Watertown. Bloody Marys at. 6:00 in the morning...

My 2nd comment. One thing I noticed on a visit to 33's house: I looked at the attack lines on 33 and noticed it looked like economy brand hose...like single wall rubber or something...red in color. Just saying.

I made a similar observation regarding that day's weather. He said, "Bad day for a fire." I said, "Somebody gets a fire today they're screwed."

All did the best they could under given circumstances. Much credit to Deputy Chief for sharing this story. As a Boston native from a firefighter family it appears that delegating someone like an aide for the missing part of a full 360 could have been valuable. .

It funny captain Chris silvino of the fdny said the same thing when vandalia fire happened in December he said before the fire if we get a fire today we’re going to be fucked and they were three firefighters from 170 died

@@garystadler5583 oh my word. I heard a statement about the fact that you can never know too much about a job that can kill you.

Knew some of the firemen at E33, l15 house on Boylston ...this shaffer obviously remembers not much of anything as the first in Dist. Chief officer . He is helter skelter in describing his actions. I would hope that you get the radio audio to play and understand the several MAYDAY'S and the failure to get that first in crew water that they repeatedly called for . I listened to the entire communications radio broadcasts several times and believe anyone with any command experience like I have had will recognize this was a command that was so screwed up it cost those 2 firemen their lives. Its not my desire to Monday morning anyone's fire, but this fire radio audio tells a lesson of frustration that those guys waiting for water and calling a mayday over and over. Lastly, in listening to this bumbling explanation by this Chief Shaller leads me to believe that was not a competent Chief officer in charge

LoL I’m not trying to Monday mornings quarterback but let me Monday morning quarterback. You’re obviously a clown with zero command experience. Johnson is a fitting name. If you bothered reading the entire report and not just listening to the transmissions you would have discovered that the pump operator delivered water in a timely manor but due to the extreme change in fire conditions that occurred in an instant the line burnt through. Let’s hear it super chief how do you get water to those 2 guys that were trapped in a blow torch with a burnt hose line? How would a man of your command experience solve that problem? Can’t wait to hear this.

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether they’ve been there or not, the statement “…command experience like I have” is an ignorant thing to say.

When I went through the Academy... MCFA (Monmouth county) NJ. Each student is given a Lodd to review and give a summary about the MAN his family and how his death impacted everyone. From both families. Wife and kids to Firefighters and others. This one was mine. 😭 Absolutely Horrifying. Its crazy I joined late. My son was 3 so 4 years ago. im 48. Volunteer of course to old to get hired. I ve been around. grew up kinda rough even though my dad was a cop i was not law abiding. I eventually ended up in Juvenile detention. For quite a while. Lots fighting in and out of juvy. worked in commercial fishing for many years. then the trades. Been through Hell and back. Thought I was Extremely tough. I calm down. Get married. have kids. my boy is 3. wife is pregnant im 43. Im walking by one of my home town Fire departments Think 🤔 ill join. Im tough enough. I always wanted to join dad and be a first responder. Especially a Firefighter. I always wanted to mask up and GO. Well the Time came. Get dressed....get to the door mask up go in cant see a thing....IMMEDIATELY panick starts. Its not not even live. its my hood over the mask. Just the thought alone OMG I cant see shit i can die any second. Im not tough. Never was. These dudes are the REAL tough ones. Sorry They are gone. True Heroes. God bless.
