Thanks for this video! I have 4 weber grills and I'm just now getting into griddle cooking. I will be trying a cheap walmart knock off of the lodge griddle.
Great video. I was thinking of pulling the trigger on a Weber q griddle but $72 is a bit steep. This is a much better option for half the price. As for heating time, I think preheating the griddle on my gas range while the grill is heating up will speed things up. Thanks!
That's a NICE griddle plate. Great video! I have a q2200, and two of those griddle plates together. It's been working great. Under the grill, is where that pretty large grease catcher is. There is a big hole in the bottom of the grill, so that plenty of gas and air can exchange. Also, the griddle plates on my model grill don't go edge to edge, and there's a space in between the griddle.
Thanks! I am looking forward to using this a lot more now that it's gotten nice outside pretty consistently. Thank you as well for sharing your real-world experience in using two griddle plates. Like I said, it's not technically recommended by Weber, but it seems like you have no issue using it.
Well Jerry, you answered my question first - why not use the breakfast plate? (it retails here for AUD59.95, and is in stock) Now we know. Given overall size I think your purshase was the bettern option. Of course, my wife would opt for the Weber plate cause it looks nice.
Great informative video! I am contemplating a getting a griddle for my Q2200. I think I'm leaning towards the Weber griddle since i generally cook for just 2 people... Do like the price of the Lodge product.... hmmmmm
Weber makes terrific products, but they definitely charge a price premium for everything they make. I do think Lodge is solid and you won't go wrong there either. Where you will need to be careful of is sometimes the third-party products on Amazon can be hit or miss. I've had good luck with some (replacement grates), but bad luck with others (replacement burner was no good).
Nice review (as always), Jerry! I've got a baby-Q -- so grill-tops like this are kind of ... a thing I've given up on. I have, however, substituted my 12" iron skillet (yay Lodge!) and use that for blackening or other techniques where a lot of contact area trumps direct flame -- with trade-off of space.
Thank you! Yes the standard 10 or 12 inch skillets are good substitutes. You might be able to go bigger if you find a handle less version, but I’m not sure what sizes they make of those.
Same as any cast iron cookware - worth giving a light coat of oil before first use and putting it into an oven (or the grill) on a low temperature for about 30 minutes to season. From there it should be good to go with regular use and care.
For sure, this plate would work on a full-size Weber like a Spirit or Genesis. Glad you enjoy the channel! I have done bison a couple of times - I really like it as an alternative to beef. The most recent video was when I did a bison ribeye in January: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JWrI6jwr9Pc.html
So now it's official: You are the true Weber outlaw !!! (Avoiding the specification of not being allowed having two griddle plates) Oh, and btw.: Thanks for this great recipe - I will have a go at that pretty soon
i forgot i have one of these in my garage from a christmas gift. gonna have to take it out and make some pancakes =). you should do some smash burgers with the grilled onions on top (just an idea for a future vid). Ive been watching the burger show lately.
I've made smash burgers with onions - I think that style is sometimes called Oklahoma onion burgers. They are excellent. You can check out my version here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MmPwKJZh6tU.html
I have a bigger webber grill that I use my griddle on. I cook all different thing on it. My favorite breakfast sammich is a grilled egg and cheese with fried balogna on it.
I have 2 Webers, a 3200 and a 1000 and as I am in New Zealand ... I have the Breakfast plate for my 1000, and it works great. I mostly use it on family vacations for making breakfast, pancakes, bacon and eggs, hashbrowns, and so much more.
Great review Jerry! I have also got a similar griddle, but not of the same quality as Lodge and I am very happy with it. I have also used it a couple of times for indirect cooking, though I think that using double foil is more practical. Thanks for your videos. Greetings from 🇬🇷
I was thinking that this griddle could also be used for indirect cooking as well. Would probably indeed be a bit more practical to use double foil, but maybe I will experiment around. Thanks for watching!
Im totally sure you can get a second griddle for that rig and have the whole top griddled up. Having sad that. My grill is not designed for split top griddle/grill cooking and i did the same thing. So i guess smart people think alike 😂. And Webber is playing it safe. I get it. But with two of these cast iron griddles on my BBQ grill covering 95%of the surface. I have had zero issues. I also bought a single griddle for the grill that covers about 95%of the grill and it also works perfectly. We all need to cook etc within our comfort zone. Its understood. But unless webber builds garbage. That grill should be able to do two griddles without issue. Short of that. Buy another brand that has bigger cahonas. So......this is my frst time watching one of your vids. Hint. You come across as to rehearsed. Or rigid. Try to be more relaxed, off the cuff like. What ive noticed in watching countless videos is that people who try to make teir videos perfect tend to have less watchable videos. Life is not perfect, second by second of every day. Trying to have a perfect video only detracts from its likability. Who cares if people eat before you do. When i was young, we had our family reunions at my Grandparents house. and my grand mother was always the last one to eat because she wanted to be sure everyone else ate first and was properly fed. I admired her greatly for her selflessness. And have tried where possible to emulate her. For me this turns out to be BBQs. Cooking all the food and making sure everyone has eaten their fill before I eat. This always guarantees i eat whats left. But im good with that because i am respecting my grandmothers practice. Hes absolutely correct about allowing more time for the extra cast iron to get up to heat. Griddling this way does take more time, but it also provides that you have that grill on hand for those times that you want to split griddle/grill or strait grill. At the end. I didn't agree with all your assessments. But im giving you that thumbs up because its obvious you put a lot of thought in to this video to make it something that everyone could get something out of. 👍
Hmmm, that might be worth trying out. I was also thinking that this griddle might work for indirect grilling too. Just pop a rack on top of that and bake right on it.
