Loen Skylift to Mount Hoven Olden Norway
We arrived into beautiful Olden on a cruise. We had purchased the tickets to the Loen Skylift online, which included bus transportation to the Skylift terminal. We presented our online receipt to the representatives at the well signaled outdoor temporary table and they gave us our card tickets. We then waited for one of the two buses to transport us to the Skylift station. We got on the blue bus for a quick drive around the fjord. We bypassed the gift shop and went directly up to the station. It’s very well organized and only one person with a ticket can scan in to board the gondola. A digital sign counts down how many more people can board. I believe the maximum capacity per gondola is 45 passengers. We boarded the gondola for the aproxímate 4 minute ride up to Mount Hoven. This is one of the steepest cable cars in the world going up about 7 feet per second to the top. Once on top, we walked around the freshly snowed area. You could also walk to an ice cavern a short walk away. Take hiking shoes if you want to explore as some parts of the walkway were very icy. The views, of course were spectacular. We watched a few people as day prepared to do some parasailing off the mountain. We were also told that people were doing sky jumping off the mountain, but we did not see them. We also had lunch in the Hoven restaurant, which opens at 1 PM. We did not have a reservation, so we were seated in one of the top chairs, but the view was still pretty good. After a while, we took the gondola back to ground level where we then took the blue bus back to the cruise pier. This is a pricy excursion, but we’ll worth it.
